I am having pain on the left side of my throat while swallowing and while yawning from last two weeks. Only on the left side. Apparently I thought it might be due to cold but then its nearly three weeks (more than two) the pain is persisting. The pain is felt more when I lie down in bed and swallow the saliva that comes in the mouth naturally. What should I do?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello. For sore throat: - Avoid cold things, fried/ oily food. -Avoid excessive use of voice/ roughly using voice or else shouting. - Gargle with salt and warm water solution thrice daily. - Take Ginger tea. - Avoid excessive cold air or sudden change of temperature (like coming from heat/ sunlight to an A/C room). - Can cover your throat with a stole. Medication: Take homoeopathic medications - Schwabe's Alpha- CF/ 1 tab. And SBL's Stodal cough lozenges – all of them thrice a day daily- for 4 days.

Suddenly lost hearing in my left ear a few hours ago. Feels like it needs popping, but it won't. I don't have any other symptoms apart from a very slight cold. Anyone know what this could be.

MS - ENT, MBBS
ENT Specialist, Bangalore
It's an emergency. Consult an ent surgeon. Get your hearing assessment done. (pta and tymapnometry) if it shows loss of hearing due to sensorineural hearing loss, you have to be started on high dose steroids and antiviral medications. Don't neglect this. First 48 hours is very crucial in any case of sudden hearing loss.

I am suffering from right forearm pain as if it's a nerve pain. It's been there for 2 months and also I am suffering from throat irritation which occurs in the morning and at night. Pls advice what to do. Could this be any infection.

B.H.M.S., Post graduate certificate in Nutrition, Obesity and Health
Homeopath, Indore
Hi lybrate-user What is your occupation? What happened 2 months back that caused the right forearm pain. Does the pain travel to your shoulder and neck? We need to find out the cause of pain to treat it completely. Please do basic neck and shoulder exercises (move neck up down left right and in circles. Move arms in cilced forwards and backwards) to relax your muscles in that area. If pain in unbearable you can take a simple pain killer or if interested in homeopathy take Mag phos 200 3 pills 3 times a day for a week. Please feel free to contact if you have any more questions.

Snore a Lot? These Yoga Positions Can Help You Control it

Snore a Lot? These Yoga Positions Can Help You Control it

The thought of waking up fresh in the morning after a good night’s sleep itself is refreshing. However, many are deprived of this simple pleasure of life, one of the main cause behind it is snoring. Whether you are snoring or have a person next to you snoring, the result is a disturbed sleep, which leaves you feeling tired and not-very-rested.

Snoring is caused by multiple reasons including stress, obesity, smoking, sinus problems, circulatory problems, poor diet, large tongue or tonsils and with age. This leaves the person sleep deprived, including a feeling of drowsiness, sore throat, increased risk of heart diseases, reduced libido and decreased concentration.

While there are surgical corrections that can get rid of snoring, yoga has some simple, effective pranayamas and asanas that have been proven to be effective since times immemorial. They improve lung capacity, help in weight management, keep the air passages open and also help in stress management. Try the following asanas and pranayamas to see snoring disappear.

Pranayama: This improves the strength of the facial and throat muscles. Bhramari or Humming Pranayama and Ujjayi pranayama are specifically useful in snoring patients. In Bhramari Pranayama, the lips are closed and the soft palate vibrations are entirely due to nasal airflow. Practised mouth snoring over a period of time where the soft palate is lifted towards the pharynx produces a buzzing bee sound. Both breathing in and out happens through the nostrils producing this sound, although slightly different during inhalation and exhalation. Ujjayi Pranayama is where a hissing breathing sound is produced due to the nasal snoring instead of the mouth snoring in the Bhramari exercise.

Breathing and Chanting the Om Mantra: Sit on the floor in a relaxed position with eyes closed and take few deep breaths. Begin to chant the word OM repeatedly for a few minutes. Break the word into two parts, the first part of OOOO should come from deep within followed by the lighter MMMM. This helps meditate, relax, and reduce snoring. Try to do this breathing and chanting at least ten to twelve times, and more if possible, on a daily basis.

Another effective measure is the Simha Garjasana or Roaring Lion Pose where you kneel down on the mat, lean back so that the hips are resting on the heels. The palms are faced in the space between the knees with fingers spread apart. Tilt your head back while taking deep breaths. This improves the airway and reduces the snoring.

Kapalbhati, Bhujangasana Dhanurasana, Warrior Pose and Surya Namaskar are also other effective asanas. When done regularly over a period of time, it helps in getting rid of snoring. This in turn makes you feel fresh in the morning; ready to take on the day. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Hello, homoeopathy has very good medicines for tinnitus problem. But for prescribing the exact medicine more symptoms of this are needed like which type of sounds in the ear i. E. Ringing, buzzing or whistles. Is it because of hardening of tympanic membrane or not.

Hi I have continuous sounding in my ears all the day and I have gone through so many doctors and took medicine but of no use ,please solve my problem.

MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Vadodara
Chaitanya it is called tinnitus and it can be of many reasons... As you have stated that you have been to many doctors then they must done many investigations and decided the diagnosis. Either give the diagnosis or more history so that a proper medicine can be prescribed. More proper case history helps to give assured result... I can understand how annoying this can be... so advise is to Consult with proper details so a good Homeopathic medicine can be prescribed.

Fever, severe body ache (particularly legs), bad throat. Feeling cold at times. Since yesterday. Please advise the medication.

MBBS

You maybe suffering from a common cold or another viral fever. You maybe suffering from allergic rhinitis and pharyngitis. You need to avoid the cause of your allergies and also take anti allergy medications. Please consult for prescription. If you have an infection and have fever you will need to do a course of antibiotics. For now do warm saline gargle and steam inhalation 3 times a day.

It is possible she has a perforation of ear ear drum. This will have to be checked, an audio gram needs to be done, the ear may need thorough cleaning and medication. Do not ignore, it can cause problems in the long term. Regards
