Foods That Are Ruining Your Perfect Smile

Everybody desires to possess a beautiful smile but poor lifestyle and dietary habits tend to damage the natural white hue of your teeth and add a yellowish tinge to it. Yellowish and dull teeth are among the major factors that cause embarrassment and affect the quality of your beautiful smile.

The following are some foods that tend to damage your teeth:

  1. Potato chips: Potato chips are high in starch content and have the tendency to get stuck in your teeth. Floss thoroughly after eating potato chips to ensure effective removal of the food particles that get stuck in your teeth to lessen the risk of plaque build-up in it.
  2. Sticky food: Food which is sticky in nature often has the tendency to stick on to your teeth for longer than most other foods. Most dried fruits also fall under the category of sticky foods that can damage your teeth to a great extent. Rinse and floss on a regular basis after eating these foods to ensure protection of your teeth against damage.
  3. Wine: According to studies, wine has positive effect on your health when consumed moderately; however, it is also responsible for damaging your oral health. If you intake a glass of wine at night on a regular basis, it increases the risk of damaging your tooth enamel and leads to its discoloration. Wine can also affect the calcium content of your teeth, cause bad breath and may result in the imbalance of your mouth's pH level. It is advisable to drink small sips of wine without swishing it for a long time.
  4. Coffee and black tea: Black tea and caffeinated coffee tend to dry your mouth. Frequent consumption of tea and coffee tend to stain your teeth and it is responsible for the discoloration of your teeth. Make it a point to drink plenty of water to minimize the risk of teeth staining.
  5. Carbonated drinks: Most carbonated drinks, including diet soda and soft drinks are acidic in composition and therefore, harmful for the health of your teeth. Caffeinated beverages tend to dry out the mouth, therefore, ensure to drink adequate water to balance out the negative impact of the caffeine.
  6. Sports drinks: Most energy drinks and sports drinks are high in sugar content and thus, have the tendency to damage your oral hygiene; ultimately affecting the appearance of your teeth. Replace your sports drinks with fresh natural juice to lessen the risk of teeth damage.

Having dental issue his teeth look yellowish and some mark while he used various medicine.
You need to get dental cleaning and polishing done from a dentist. If teeth are yellowish we need to find the cause for it. Also teeth whitening (bleaching) or esthetic rehab like laminates or veneers can help you.

Hi lybrate-user. Sorry to know that your suffering from sensitive teeth sensitive teeth tooth has a layer on the top called enamel which is a protective layer preventing leakage into the layers beneath this. The next layer below this enamel is called dentine, which is a very sensitive layer. So when you say your tooth is sensitive which means that your enamel is probably missing in few areas or thin in few areas exposing the second layer which is a sensitive layer. There are few toothpastes available in the market which combat sensitive teeth. It works for few individuals. However meet your dentist to actually diagnose the problem and then go ahead with treatment. Your dentist might suggest you simple enamel fillings or any other type of treatment which is appropriate depending on the severity of your sensitivity. However get your medical records updated and mention to the dentist if you have any gastric regurgitation, which cud be the cause at times. Minimize the intake of carbonated drinks, citrus fruits, squeezing lemon to food, consumption of wine as these are the very few major culprits to dissolve the top layer of the tooth and exposing the second layer thus making your teeth sensitive. Stay away from tobacco related habits which also makes your teeth sensitive try to use soft tooth brushes to prevent unnesasary wearing of the tooth surface. Your dentist would be the right person to customize the plan which suits you the best as every individual is unique.

Hello lybrate-user. Your complaint is not very clear. But I think you have ulcers in your mouth which is giving you pain. I prescribe kenacort ointment 0.1% to apply over the ulcers thrice a day. It will slowly heal up and you can eat properly. And you r having vit b deficiency in your food that also cause these ulcers in mouth. You need to take multivitamin tablets also. Thank you.

A healthy tooth brush is equal to a healthy mouth. Thoroughly rinsing your tooth brush daily after brushing will keep it germ-free and healthy and let it air-dry before using it again.

Hello lybrate-user first of all I don't deny the efficacy of natural remedies for yellow teeth. But you need to understand that it is a temporary solution. One such solution in a dental clinic is bleaching of teeth. Which has provided good results, but again the effect is for about a year or so. Also teeth need to be regularly cleaned through scaling and polishing it is called as oral prophylaxis. You need to visit your dentist first for checking if you require just scaling or scaling+ bleaching.

For bleeding gums, go for scaling and polishing of teeth. For cavity, get your teeth x-rayed to determine the extent of decay. Depending on that, you can go for filling of cavities with tooth coloured cement with or without root canal treatment.

- use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums. - eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meals. Carbohydrates and sugars feed dental plaque. - try an oral irrigation device, commonly known as a" water pick, to clear debris from around the gum line. - you may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser.

Do not delay dental treatment just because there is no pain in your teeth.

Many times there is decay, food lodgement and sensitivity in teeth but no pain. If treated at an early stage, pain and swelling can be prevented. So get regular check ups done.

To avoid infection and reduce pain in a first-degree burn on the tongue: rinse the area well with cool water for a few minutes. Remove any dirt or particles that may be on the burn. Wet a clean cloth with cool water and hold it on top of the burn. Suck on ice chips or a popsicle to soothe the pain. Gargle with cool water or salt water. Avoid warm or hot liquids, which could irritate the burn. Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain and inflammation. Sprinkle a few grains of sugar on the tongue to relieve pain.

Dear Lybrate user, you might be facing this difficulty due to your jaw joint problem. (TMJ) Consult your dentist immediately to determine the exact cause. There might be some dislocation for which you'll be advised a soft diet for a few days alongwith mouth opening exercises. If it's painful, the dentist might advise some medicines too.
