DM - Neurology
Neurologist,
Sir, 4 years after stroke happens, there is no cure - but you can improve function with physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Please visit any center in your area which provides comprehensive rehab - they may suggest various maneuvers as well as orthotic devices - these have to be custom-made and tailored to specific requirements.

My bp is high in tune of 160/110. Weight is 95 kg. Suffering from depression and insomnia. What to do? Any problem seems too much to me and I can't divert from that. Hi lybrate-user First of all understand that your stress level is triggering your bp. You are overweight also. Try to join some physical activity which will help you to cope up with this depression. You have to make continuous efforts to get out of this situation. Medicines are not the best way to cope up. Start reading about depression and anxiety, many people are suffering and fighting with this situation. Train your mind gradually to think positive and to stop over thinking. There are many techniques which your psychiatrist must be telling you to cope up. Enjoy with your friends. Simply do not sit back and think things will happen themselves. Go out and meet people and you will be definitely out of your problem.

My father got numbness in the left leg and he was taken to hospital and the neuro doctor said him to admit and now he is admitted and was taken to take some test. My father has diabetes for like 20 years, He got brain fever in August 2015 and now he got cured of the brain fever. He also has BP, and taking cholesterol tablets. What will be the reason for the numbness in the left leg? Is it a serious problem?

Yes it can be serious problems like cerebro vascular stroke. Or vertebral problems. But you should ask this question to the doctor who is treating him. He know the test results and have checked him. You are paying the fees so ask the question.

Hi Thanks for your query and Welcome to Lybrate. I am Dr Akshay from Fortis Hospital, New Delhi. If your legs are actually numb since last 5 months, then it is a serious issue and needs urgent medical attention because it means that there is compression of nerves somewhere. I would actually like you to get a thorough physical examination done by an Orthopaedic surgeon and get relevant investigations done so that proper treatment can be initiated. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation. Thanks & Regards Dr Akshay Kumar Saxena Consultant Orthopaedics Fortis Hospital, New Delhi

I' m 29 yrs old and I have a problem of tingling hands and legs when I sleep. I have been facing this problem since I was in high school and this happens at least once in two weeks but irritating enough to keep me awake at night. Please help.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Temporary tingling, numbness and other paraesthesias can be due to nerve compression and gets relieved as soon as the compression is removed, but persistent symptoms are not good. My advice to you since you are very young is to meet up with a neurophysician and get any polyneuropathy etc to be ruled out. You might require some tests and nerve conduction studies to be done for it, which I think is worthwhile. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

You need to immediately take her to the hospital. This seems more probable that it may be of neurological origin. Get immediate medical care.
