Why I have really hard heartbeat in my stomach and it shakes my whole body please advice.

MBBS, DGO (cal)
General Physician,
Possibly it is aortic pulsation, which is not abnormal. Thin person when feels like that it may not be abnormal. But with your height & weight it is not usual. Please get yourself examined by a cardiologist and get one usg abdomen done to exclude any aneurysm in abdominal aorta or any mass in front of aorta.

5 Tips From a Top Cardiologist To Help Keep You Away From Heart Problems
Cardiac ailments are extremely common these days and surprisingly, 90 percent of these are completely preventable. Utter neglect, inadequate awareness and an unhealthy lifestyle are the major reasons which lead to the development of various problems of the heart such as heart attacks, stroke, inflammatory heart disease, hypertensive heart disease etc. Here are some top tips to keep your heart healthy and keep all cardiac diseases at bay:

1) Keep your weight in check - Obese/overweight people are at a considerably higher risk of attacks/stroke in comparison to people with a healthy body weight. Try and maintain the correct height-health ratio at all times by including a healthy diet and regular exercise in your daily routine. Also, get a weight check every six months.

2) Kick your smoking habit - People who are regular smokers are most likely to be affected by coronary heart disease. Keep a tab on your smoking habit and if possible, leave it completely. If you are above the age of 45 and are a heavy smoker, you should immediately kick the butt.

3) Bring down salt consumption - According to scientists, a food product is said to have an unhealthy salt content if it contains more than 1.5 gm salt per 100gm. High intake of salt contributes to an unstable blood pressure and thus you should try and avoid processed foods that have a high salt content. Also, try and use minimum salt when you cook food at home.

4) Avoid saturated fat - Excessive consumption of saturated fat is a major cause of cardiovascular diseases. Make little but effective changes in your daily diet and substitute saturated fats with their healthier counterparts. Avoid fried food products, full-fat milk and red meat.

5) Minimize your alcohol consumption - Everyone knows that red wine is good for the heart, but everything in excess is harmful. Moreover, other alcoholic variants such as beer will actually add to your body weight and make you vulnerable to a number of heart problems. Try and limit your alcohol consumption to one drink a day.

Your heart is your lifeline. Take good care of it. If you fave any further questions on heartcare, click on consult privately to ask me.

- Skip the aerated drinks as well as the caffeine. Opt for herbal tea instead.  - Have a glass of lukewarm water everyday.  - Include banana, watermelon and cucumber in your daily diet. Watermelon juice is great for curing acidity.  - Nariyal paani is known to soothe the system if you suffer from acidity.  - Drink a glass of milk - everyday.  - Have your last meal at least two to three hours before you hit the sack.  - Keeping long intervals between meals is another cause for acidity. Have small but regular meals.  - Try to avoid pickles, spicy chutneys, vinegar, etc.  - Boil some mint leaves in water and have a glass of this after meals.

My grandfather is a 76 years old male. 10 days ago he was affected by an ischemic stroke at the right side of his brain .But now the doctors found an infraction at the right side and also found the infraction to be spreading towards the left. Doctors are suggesting for a surgery .Is that needed for his healthy recovery?

MS - General Surgery, MBBS, MCh - Neuro Surgery
Neurosurgeon, Hyderabad
If the doctors have suggested surgery it is mos likely that the stroke is causing brain swelling and the resultant increase in pressure is causing threat to life. Surgery is therefore life saving. Unfortunately it has no implication on physical recovery since that is dependent on the size of the stroke and part of the brain that is affected.

Tips To Help You Control Your High Blood Pressure
Make sure your blood pressure is under 140/90 mm Hg. If your systolic pressure (the top number) is over 140, ask your doctor what you can do to lower it.

Take your high blood pressure medicine, if prescribed, every day. If you have questions, talk to your doctor.

Aim for a healthy weight. If you are overweight or obese, carrying this extra weight increases your risk of high blood pressure. One way to determine if you need to lose weight is to find out your body mass index or BMI. If your BMI is above the healthy range (i.E, 25 or greater), or if your waist measurement is greater than 35 inches (women) or 40 inches (men) you probably have excess abdominal weight and you may benefit from weight loss especially if you have other risk factors. Talk to your doctor to see if you are at increased risk for high blood pressure and need to lose weight.

Increase your physical activity. Do at least 30 minutes of moderate activity, such as walking, most days of the week. You can do 30 minutes in three 10-minute segments.

Choose foods low in salt and sodium.

Read nutrition labels. Almost all packaged foods contain sodium. Every time you prepare or eat a packaged food, know how much sodium is in one serving.
Keep a sodium diary. You may be surprised at how much sodium you consume each day and the diary will help you decide which foods to decrease or eliminate.

Use spices and herbs instead of salt to season the food you prepare at home.

Eat more fruits, vegetables, grains, and low-fat dairy foods.

If you consume alcohol at all, consume moderate amounts.

Hi, The hemoglobin is not too bad and will pick up with syrup haem-up one tablespoon everyday after breakfast for 3 months. For cholesterol you will need to take some statins which can be prescribed by a physician. High cholesterol increases the risk for heart damage.

It is normal, remember that the fetus is rapidly developing at earlier stages, compared to 7 months and beyond when heart beat is around 120-140. But a fast growing fetus will have a faster beating heart, not to worry.

Hi What test is more reliable? conventional angiography or ct coronary angiography?

M B B S, M. D (Internal Medicine)
General Physician, Nellore
Definitely conventional angiography. Ct only shows any blockages but cannot show whether the blood is able to negotiate the blockages adequately enough to reach the heart. Hence, in order to know how critical the blockage is, conventional angiography has more utility and experience.
