I am resting now after acetabulum surgery. I can not move my leg to all positions. I feel like it's stuck. What can I do? Will it become normal?

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Bangalore
The recovery period of acetabulum surgery encompasses three individual three-month periods. During the first six weeks after surgery activities are well restricted. More aggressive range of motion and strengthening exercises begin during the second six weeks period. Strengthening conditioning and flexibility activities increase thereafter. After hospital discharge at first, isometric and gentle range of motion exercises are supervised by a physical therapist. After 6 weeks, hip motion and strengthening activities are increased. Weight bearing restrictions relax as hip strength is achieved. Aquatic programs may be beneficial for some patients. Please see a physiotherapist for your specific rehabilitation programme, they may begin a home exercise programme as well. Best wishes.

(Sciatica)

MD- Ayurveda
Ayurveda, Ujjain
(Sciatica)

Well I am not sure if I have tennis elbow or triceps tendonitis-i get pain in my triceps and my forearms get swollen but da peak/concentration f pain is in my triceps! Can I do something about it? Should I consult ortho/Ayurveda?

Bachelor in Physiotherapy (BPT)

Good evening To check whether you have a tennis elbow, just keep your elbow half bend facing your Palm down. Try to raise your ring finger while giving resistance with another hand to same finger to avoid that movement. If you feel sever pain in lateral side of your elbow, it's positive sign of tennis elbow. Thanks and regards.

I have 22 years old my right leg is pain in night every day. What the problem in the leg, please tell me.

BHMS
Homeopath, Raebareli
When leg pain occurs after strenuous physical activity, you can simply apply cold compresses. This will help reduce the pain by numbing the affected area and control swelling and inflammation. 1. Wrap a few ice cubes (or a bag of frozen peas) in a thin towel. 2. Apply this pack on the affected area for 10 to 15 minutes, while keeping the leg (s) elevated. 3. Do this a few times a day. Note: do not apply ice directly on the skin, as it may cause frostbite. Also take a glass of milk daily. Also do a x-ray of the right leg. Get back to me for further treatment.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have a 3 day history of back pain which is not long and it could be just a muscle strain if you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you and you can also add a muscle relaxant like tab myoril for 5-7 days - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home (only modalities and no exercises unless you become pain free) - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs to be applied 3-4 times in a day for 5-7 days - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

Keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

Hello- here are some tips to protect your cervical spondylitis- about 90 per cent of the population will suffer from back or neck pain when they reach adulthood, says a/prof tan. When it comes to the back, prevention is best. 1. Take short frequent breaks away from the computer. 2. Sit up straight on and off every 10-15 minutes, periodically stand up, 3. Walk around and stretch every hour. 4. Do regular stretching and strengthening exercises. 5. Keep the top of the computer screen at eye-level. This way you will be looking down at the screen at a 15- to 20-degree angle which is less strenuous on the neck. Adopt a good sitting posture sit upright and make sure both the feet are on the floor, and the elbows, knees, hips and ankles are at a 90-degree angle. Place a cushion against the back of the chair to support the lower back. When typing for prolonged periods, sit close to the table and rest the elbows on the table to relieve stress from the shoulders and neck.

I don't know about Algina but the others are for your Diabetes & calcium & Vitamin D. You can take extra care in your diet to control your blood sugar. You can try taking 1 tsp. Castor oil at bedtime with a glass of water. It can help you for your knee pain.

I experience severe leg pain (ainthan) when I do some hard work (which not even include walking or running in any way). What may be the possible reason for this and the CURE for this? P have this problem since my childhood and back then it had nothing to do with hard work. It just occurred at night back then.

MBBS, MD - Anaesthesiology, FIPM
Pain Management Specialist, Pune
You just seem to be having muscle cramps. In childhood also they are quite common and called as growth pains. To get relief observe the following. 1. Take adequate liquids, sports drink like gatorade, fruit juices 2. Stretch your calf muscles daily. 3. You can massage calf muscles and apply cold pack when they pain. 4. Avoid prolonged standing or sitting cross-legged. Change postures in between. 5. Take calcium supplements. 6. Take healthy nutritious diet. 7. If you are taking medicines like diuretics, statins, review with your doctor as they can cause cramps too. If problem persists get your thyroid profile, kidney functions done and consult with your doctor.

My age is 20 but last 2 months big pain in my legs when I walk big pain in my legs plezz suggest me?

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Bangalore
Most leg pain results from wear and tear, overuse, or injuries in joints or bones or in muscles, ligaments, tendons or other soft tissues. Leg pain can also be caused by blood clots, varicose veins or poor circulation. To relieve mild pain: stay off your leg as much as possible apply an ice pack or bag of frozen peas to the affected area for 15 to 20 minutes three times a day elevate your leg whenever you sit or lie down please go to a physiotherapist if: you have pain during or after walking you have swelling in both legs your pain gets worse your symptoms don't improve after a few days of home treatment you have painful varicose veins if you feel the pain is from muscle cramp then you need to drink a lot of water because poor fluid intake (dehydration) may predispose to cramps also low blood levels of either calcium or magnesium directly cause cramps.
