Can Balanced Diet Treat Impotency?

Can Balanced Diet Treat Impotency?

Impotence, also known as erectile dysfunction, is a condition in which a man is not able to maintain an erection during sexual intercourse. It can be triggered by a variety of conditions like smoking, intake of certain drugs, health disorders or excessive consumption of alcohol. Although treatment options like medication and surgery are available, there are non-invasive treatments that can help a person fight the condition.

Here are some of them:
1. Engage in a physical workout -
Among the many types of lifestyle changes that could be resorted to, exercise is the most effective one. Exercising improves blood flow and blood pressure in the body, both of which are essential for getting and maintaining a normal erection for a prolonged time. Plus, exercising also increases the level of testosterone, which is a crucial factor in sex drive.
2. Follow a balanced dietThe food you consume has a direct effect on your health and subsequently on your sex drive. A diet consisting of fruits, veggies, fish and lesser servings of red meat and refined grains can decrease the risk of impotency. Also, a healthy diet helps to maintain a stable body weight, which aids in sexual activity. Overconsumption of junk foods can cause obesity and diabetes, which are responsible for impotence.
3. Get sufficient sleep - Apart from a host of health problems, lack of sleep may also you render you impotent. Studies have shown that testosterone levels of men who are sleep deprived are much lower than in those who get their 8 hours of sleep. A proper sleep schedule should thus be duly adhered to.
4. Quit smoking and limit your alcohol consumption - Erectile dysfunction can be the cause of vascular disease. This occurs when the blood supply to the penis becomes restricted due to the blockage and narrowing of arteries. Alcohol and smoking can be responsible for this and can be the cause of both temporary and long-term impotence. Therefore, it's important to limit your alcohol consumption and quit smoking altogether. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Sexologist.

Hello, Please get an ultrasound pelvis done to check for endometrial thickness and if more than 9 mm then you can opt for a withdrawal bleed with progesterones, as pregnancy is ruled out by negative urine pregnancy test.

Garbhsansakar - Developing An Intelligent & Healthy Baby!

Garbhsansakar - Developing An Intelligent & Healthy Baby!

Just as baby’s body develops when they are in their mother’s womb, so does the baby’s mind. According to Ayurveda, a baby’s personality and behaviour begins to develop inside the womb almost as soon as he or she is conceived. Thus, in the same way as a mother takes vitamin and mineral supplements to nourish her baby’s body, attention also needs to be paid to nourishing and developing the baby’s cognitive abilities. This is known as Garbhsanskar in Ayurveda.

Garbh Sanskar derives its origins from the Sanskrit word ‘Garbh’ meaning foetus in the womb and ‘sanskar’ or education of the mind. In order to help your baby develop a healthy mind, garbhsanskar suggests a way of life and practises that parents expecting a child should follow. This is because, it is believed that an unborn baby can understand sounds, emotions, thoughts and feelings being experienced by the mother. Thus mothers are advised to stay positive always and keep away from negative influences.

Make time for hobbies and other interests that make you happy.

Reading a book is an excellent activity for pregnant women. It not only keeps your mind occupied but according to Ayurveda, the information gained by reading also seeps into the baby’s mind. It is perhaps for this reason that mythological stories and scriptures are highly recommended to expecting mothers.

Though reading the newspaper is a good habit to inculcate, skipping the morning paper when you are pregnant is not a bad idea since most of the news contained has violent references. If you like watching movies, pick comedies and movies with a happy ending that raises your spirits.

Music also plays an important role in your baby’s cognitive development. According to Garbhsanskar in Ayurveda listening to soft, soothing music can keep both the mother and the baby calm. This also aids in the development of the baby’s sense of hearing and stimulates the development of neural connections in the brain. There are a number of shlokas and ragas that have proven to be beneficial for expecting mothers and their foetuses. Alternatively, you could listen to soft instrumental music like that created by a flute, sitar or violin.

Meditation is another key aspect of garbhsanskar. This helps calm a mother and eases mood swings while giving her and her baby peace of mind. The aim of meditation is to achieve a zen state of mind where the mind is not affected by external distractions and can focus on visualising the baby. By doing this, a mother can connect with her baby and form a deeper bond with the growing foetus. Communicating with the baby by talking to them or caressing your belly is also known as Garbha sanwaad. This contributes to the physical and mental development of the baby and stimulates their senses.

Thus, do not wait for your baby to be born to start connecting with them. The day you learn of the good news is the day you and your baby can start developing your unique bond. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ayurveda.

What is the difference between implantation bleeding and period bleeding? How many days can implantation bleeding happen?

Dear Puja Kumari. Thanks for the question. Implantation bleeding happens when a fertilized egg attaches itself to your uterine lining. Implantation bleeding can mimic menstruation, especially during those first few days of your period when you have a lighter flow or if you normally experience light periods, so you might feel confused when you start spotting. Here's how to tell the difference between implantation bleeding and menstruation: Watch the flow: Bleeding from implantation is light and remains light, but menstruation starts light and gets heavier. Implantation bleeding does not contain blood clots, which often appear during menstruation. Check the color: Red blood that looks bright or vibrant points to menstruation, and discharge that appears light pink or brown can be a sign of implantation. Bleeding from implantation can occasionally look red, but it more commonly looks brown or pink. Regularity: Menstrual flow typically continues through the full duration of your period without stopping, but bleeding from implantation can come and go. Implantation bleeding often causes spotting or off-and-on bleeding for about one or two days. This differs from a menstrual cycle, which normally lasts between four to seven days. Cramping severity: Both menstruation and implantation bleeding can cause cramping, but cramps from your period feel much more intense. Light or faint cramping that never increases in intensity could mean implantation, especially if it's coupled with brown or pink discharge.

Ayurveda and Kidney Problems

Ayurveda and Kidney Problems

Kidney failure and other kidney problems are the leading causes of death nowadays. Common problems that lead to kidney failure include chronic blood pressure and chronic uncontrolled diabetes. However, there are a number of ayurvedic medications which help solve kidney failure and other kidney problems including;

  1. Punarnava: Punarnava is commonly called hogweed as well but the medical name for it is boerhavia diffusa. It is extremely helpful in preventing micturition, a disorder which is characterized by unexplained fainting after urinating. However, that is not the only symptoms hogweed helps with as it also removes excess water from the body due to kidney failure.
  2. Varun: Varun is commonly known as caper and is medically known as crataeva nurvala. The diseases which varun is best at dealing with are urinary tract infections and renal stones. Varun also helps in stopping the swelling and extra fluid accumulation after kidney failure.
  3. Gokshura: Gokshura is known as tribulus terrestris and is an herbal tonic for the genito-urinary system. Gokshura is one of the best ways to avoid dialysis. This is because it stops infections from occurring and also clears obstructions in the urinary tract. It is also very good at regenerating the kidney cells.
  4. Raktachandan: Rakt chandan is known as p. Santalinus or red sandalwood and is another excellent remedy for kidney problems. It acts as both a diuretic and an anti-infectant.
  5. Palaash: Palaash, medically, is known as butea monosperma. It is a type of urinary alkalizer and it also stops micturition. A urinary alkalizer is a medication which allows the urine to pass more easily. This is yet another great remedy for kidney failure.
  6. Kaasni: Kaasni is commonly known as chicory but its medical name is cichorium intybus. Kaasni gives strength to the kidneys and is also a very good alkalizer. However, its most valuable property is the fact that it helps in nephritis and nephrotic syndrome (disorder of the kidneys characterized by protein loss).

Bedwetting - Causes And Symptoms

MBBS, MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Mumbai
Bedwetting - Causes And Symptoms

Bedwetting or nocturnal enuresis, refers to the unintentional passage of urine during sleep. Enuresis is the medical term for wetting, whether in the clothing during the day or in bed at night. Another name for enuresis is urinary incontinence. For infants and young children, urination is involuntary. Wetting is normal for them. Usually, most of kids are dry by day 2-3 yrs and dry by night by 3-5 yrs. Daytime control is usually achieved first, while nighttime control comes later.

The age at which bladder control is expected varies considerably. Some parents expect dryness at a very early age, while others not until much later. Such a time line may reflect the culture and attitudes of the parents and caregivers.

Factors that affect the age at which wetting is considered a problem include the following:

  1. The child's gender: Bedwetting is more common in boys.
  2. The child's development and maturity
  3. The child's overall physical and emotional health. Chronic illness and/or emotional and physical abuse may predispose to bedwetting.

Causes

No one knows for sure what causes bed-wetting, but various factors may play a role:

  1. A small bladder: Your child's bladder may not be developed enough to hold urine produced during the night.
  2. Inability to recognize a full bladder: If the nerves that control the bladder are slow to mature, a full bladder may not wake your child, especially if your child is a deep sleeper.
  3. A hormone imbalance: During childhood, some kids don't produce enough anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) to slow nighttime urine production.
  4. Stress: Stressful events, such as becoming a big brother or sister, starting a new school, or sleeping away from home, may trigger bed-wetting.
  5. Urinary tract infection: This infection can make it difficult for your child to control urination.
  6. Sleep apnea: Sometimes bed-wetting is a sign of obstructive sleep apnea, a condition in which the child's breathing is interrupted during sleep.
  7. Diabetes: For a child who's usually dry at night, bed-wetting may be the first sign of diabetes.

A structural problem in the urinary tract or nervous system. Rarely, bed-wetting is related to a defect in the child's neurological system or urinary system.

Symptoms

  1. Wetting during the day
  2. Frequency, urgency, or burning on urination
  3. Straining, dribbling, or other unusual symptoms with urination
  4. Cloudy or pinkish urine, or blood stains on underpants or pajamas
  5. Soiling, being unable to control bowel movements
  6. Constipation

Most kids are fully toilet trained by age 5, but there's really no target date for developing complete bladder control. Between the ages of 5 and 7, bed-wetting remains a problem for some children. After 7 years of age, a small number of children still wet the bed.

When to see a doctor: Most children outgrow bed-wetting on their own, but some need a little help. In other cases, bed-wetting may be a sign of an underlying condition that needs medical attention.

Consult your child's doctor if:

  1. Your child still wets the bed after age 7
  2. Your child starts to wet the bed after a few months or more of being dry at night
  3. Bed-wetting is accompanied by painful urination, unusual thirst, pink or red urine, hard stools, or snoring
  4. Self-Care at Home

Here are some tips for helping your child stop wetting the bed. These are techniques that are most often successful

  1. Reduce evening fluid intake.
  2. The child should urinate in the toilet before bedtime.
  3. A system of sticker charts and rewards works for some children.
  4. Make sure the child has safe and easy access to the toilet.

Some believe that you should avoid using diapers or pull-ups at home because they can interfere with the motivation to wake up and use the toilet. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a pediatrician.

Respected Doctor, My wife gave birth a female child on Sep. 23.2015. It is a normal delivery. Now almost 4 months have been over. At birth time to reduce the stomach she bandaged by using cloth around her stomach for a 2 months. At that time the stomach is reduced but now the stomach size is being increased where is the wrong? Is there any excersize to do to decrease the stomach or else any other way? Please suggest me.

She should continue rigorous breastfeeding. Abdominal toning up exercises are necessary. Avoid high caloric diet, foods with hidden fats and fast foods. Stomach is not the only place. Hips and thighs are also prone to fat accumulation. Hope she is not diabetic or hypothyroid. BP needs to be checked. There are more issues......
