If above 45 and with heavy periods it is best to see a Gynaecologist as a few investigations will be needed to exclude any pathology. It is not necessarily related to approaching menopause.

You had sex in her probable safe period and she cannot be pregnant and as variations are common you need to do a urine test to confirm. However if you had not ejacaulted inside and used condom ther is no chance at all.

I have a small lump on the side of my thumbnail and a doctor said it was an ingrown nail and cut it. But the thumb never healed and now the pain is very severe to the touch. The nail near the lump is also discoloured, and pus oozes sometimes between the nail and the skin. Which specialist doctor do I need to consult?

You can try the following steps at home to relieve the pain caused by your ingrown thumbnail and help the nail to grow out naturally: Soak your sore toe in warm water for 15 minutes 2 to 3 times each day. Wedge a small piece of wet cotton, such as part of a cotton ball, under the corner of your ingrown nail. Soak your thumb and change the piece of cotton each day until the nail grows out and can be trimmed. Do not use a sharp object like manicure scissors to dig under your nail, because the toe might get infected. Do not try to use a needle to drain the pus from your thumb. This could make the infection worse. While your ingrown toenail is healing, wear comfortable shoes or sandals that do not press on your thumb. Use these home treatment steps for 3 days. If they do not help, you might need to see your doctor. Be sure to see a doctor if your toe gets infected. Your thumb might be infected if it hurts more than it did before you tried the home treatment. Call your doctor if your thumb is red, warm, swollen, or drains pus, or if there are red streaks leading from your thumb. However, many times doctors opt for ‘conservative’ (read ‘non-surgical’) treatment of various sorts including a sit-and-wait policy. In these cases it’s well worth taking a homeopathic remedy and the remedy of choice in this situation is Magnetis polaris Australis. Take one pill in a 30c strength three times a day for three days. You may be surprised by the result. To prevent ingrown thumbnails, always cut your nails straight across and not in a curve.

Diabetes is a lifestyle disease completely reversible with diet and life style changes. I think your blood sugar of 8.4 is fine .May be there may be other factors involved like not hydrating yourself adequately or may be some medication I s causing the problem. It is very difficult to tell without knowing the medicines you are taking ,your diet history any supplements you take, how much fibre you take your stress levels at work ,home etc your sleep etc all will affect your blood sugar. So take a consult if you want specific advise.

Microneedling Radio Frequency For Acne Scars!

MBBS, MD - Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy, FRGUHS (Cosmetology)
Dermatologist, Bangalore
Microneedling Radio Frequency For Acne Scars!

Radiofrequency micro-needling is a cosmetic procedure frequently used to remove scars from the face and surface of the body. It is nowadays also regarded as a procedure that combats acne.

There is a significant difference between the ways this and other conventional treatment procedures operate. Contrary to the traditional ways, this treatment focuses on the part of skin majorly responsible for the scar or skin issue and avoids disturbing the healthy surface of the skin. This provides it with an added edge, including a reduction in recovery time for the patient post-surgery.

How does this work?

The step by step procedure this treatment method follows is outlined as below-

• The problem causing part in the middle region of skin (dermis) is identified
• With the help of surgical devices, energy is channelled directly into those problem pockets, rebuilding deep laid scars and fault lines so that the top layer of skin (epidermis) above it is rebuilt to be healthier
• All the time, the epidermis is actually spared any rough treatment that may damage it, and care is also taken that the pigmentation of skin does not change
• Due to customization of treatment, according to the needs of the skin of the patient, the treatment yields better and long lasting results than generalized treatment.

How safe is this procedure?

The safety rate of this procedure is really high. During the procedure, local anaesthesia is required in cream form. As the speciality of this procedure is the small amount of recovery period required, no hospitalisation is required and the patients can leave the clinic immediately after the procedure.

During surgery, another attribute of this procedure that ensures maximum safety is the use of equipment that operates on the interior layers of skin and spares the sensitive upper layer. The major advantage of this procedure is that there is no down time unlike in lasers.

How many sessions should you get done?

Ideally, 3-4 sessions spaced out over a month is an ideal number. Your skin should not take more than 2-3 days to return to normal after each sitting that you have. Moreover, if you have skin lighter or darker than normal, or under or over sensitive to pigmentation, you may need to spend more or less time in the clinic after consulting your doctor accordingly.

After a general overview of this procedure, do you find micro-needling is for you? If yes, you need to read up on your skin requirements and visit a surgeon real quick. Wish you a safe and healthy procedure!

I have back pain. And have black spots on my back .and have stomach pain. What should I do?

I have back pain. And have black spots on my back .and have stomach pain. What should I do?
Hello, Thanks for your query on Lybrate "As" per your clinical history is concerned please do a clinical examination by your Doctor and for confirmation, you can do one Ultrasound exam. For back pain you can take [NAPRA-S tab] every 8 hours along with [pan-40]once a day. Do follow lifestyle modifications like this- 1)Drink water throughout the day. If you live in a hot, dry climate or you exercise frequently, you may need to drink even more water to produce enough urine. 2)Try to eat fewer oxalate-rich foods. These include rhubarb, beets, okra, spinach, Swiss chard, sweet potatoes, nuts, tea, chocolate and soy products. 3)Choose a diet low in salt and animal protein. Reduce the amount of salt you eat and choose nonanimal protein sources, such as legumes. Consider using a salt substitute. 4)Continue eating calcium-rich foods, but use caution with calcium supplements. Hope that helps
