Having tooth sensitivity problem. Even when she drinks normal water she says she has having little uneasiness in teeth. Do not have problem with hot drinks, like tea and milk she consume without any discomfort. Currently using Sensodent K toothpaste. Please recommend do she need any medical attention. Or change in tooth paste.

Dentist, Chennai
A major cause of tooth sensitivity is root exposure. Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning along with desensitizing procedures and / or artificial enamel filling and / or root canal treatment. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. Until then apply a desensitizing paste (Sensodyne Tooth paste) on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min until you brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight will be better. Advance procedures can be done with laser. You may consult me in person. DENTAL TIPS: - Visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

My mouth smells very bad even after brushing twice a day and using mouth wash. How can I get rid of this smell?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Scali Once your food is digested, chemicals that cause odour can be absorbed into your bloodstream and from there into your lungs; these chemicals then are exhaled. Diets high in protein and sugar also have been associated with bad breath. Infections in the mouth, such as dental caries (tooth decay), periodontal (gum) disease or mouth sores related to other conditions may contribute to bad breath. Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. Dry mouth also can cause bad breath. You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. Like our body, our gums also need some exercise to maintain their health.Gently bite down so as to make sure that your teeth make a clinking sound when they meet. Repeat this 30 to 40 times continously. This exercise will stimulate the flow of blood and will keep your gums healthy.

I am suffering from all tooth pains. Exactly at 1am in the morning i start getting tooth ache and not able to sleep after that.

As you said .You start getting tooth ache in the night.Based on your complaint. .I think you are having deep dental caries in one of your teeth . Visit your dentist. If required you should go Root canal treatment.

Nutritional deficiency, excessive stress & debilitating disease can cause ulcer. Exercise regularly. Eat lot of fruits & green leafy vegetables & drink plenty of water. You may need Coronoplasty (smoothen teeth edges) along with Multivitamin cap, for five days in the morning after meals & antiseptic ointment or gel on the area of ulcer until then. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash after every meals.

Hello sir i've gype in my every front teeth. I'm feeling very awkward when smiling in public. I want get rid from teeth gype please tell me some remedy to get rescue from this problem.

Gaps in the front teeth: gaps in the front teeth can occur in any age. The gap occurring in the front teeth at the age of 9 - 11 is quite common as that settles by itself. Treatment is usually not indicated. But if the gap is seen and the front tooth or teeth are missing and causing the gap then it's something which needs attention. Some of the gaps in the front teeth can be due to the habits practiced during childhood ie, thumb sucking, finger sucking, always keeping the mouth open and continuously using the mouth to breath rather than the nose. These problems needs to corrected along with the gaps being closed. And yes in adolescents and adults the best method to close the gap as per the biological health of the mouth would be by orthodontics (braces treatment). This will be treated by a dental specialist called orthodontist. This treatment is time consuming which can go to few years and definitely would be ideally best and the results can last longer provided the treatment is planned and executed well. In adulthood, as some of our patients woudnt want the option of braces, then the esthetic procedures can be performed. It could be (some of the fancy words we use in dentistry) like crowns, veneers, thineers, componeers, lumineers, bridges, implants, composites, etc. But the cosmetic procedures should be performed well enough not to make the outcome disastrous. And definitely these procedures don't take the time taken by" braces treatment" so please visit your dentist to know about the best which could suit your needs. I hope I answered your query.

Go to a dental clinic for through check up to rule out the cause of pain. You may have gum disease or fracture in the tooth. X-ray will help to get the right diagnosis.

- use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums. - eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meals. Carbohydrates and sugars feed dental plaque. - try an oral irrigation device, commonly known as a" water pick, to clear debris from around the gum line. - you may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks.

I get bad smell from mouth since childhood n also I have digestion problem that is after taking food I get vomiting sensation. What should i do?

BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
Bad breath can be reduced or prevented if you: practice good oral hygiene. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to remove food debris and plaque. Don't forget to brush the tongue, too. Replace your toothbrush every 2 to 3 months or after an illness. Use floss or an interdental cleaner to remove food particles and plaque between teeth once a day. See your dentist regularly -- at least twice a year. He or she will conduct an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning and will be able to detect and treat periodontal disease, dry mouth, or other problems that may be the cause of bad mouth odor. Drink lots of water. This will keep your mouth moist. Chewing gum (preferably sugarless) stimulates the production of saliva, which helps wash away food particles and bacteria.

I have dental problem for last 6 months its like old mans teeth, can you suggest me how to protect my teeth and how to control it help us.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi, a poor diet can lead to gum disease and tooth decay. Foods high in carbohydrates, sugars and starches greatly contribute to the production of plaque acids that attack the tooth enamel. Eventually these acids can cause tooth enamel to break down, forming a cavity. Foods high in sugar are a particularly common cause of tooth decay. Making these foods a treat rather than a staple will help protect your teeth. To maintain a balanced diet, eat a variety of foods from each of the five major food groups. When choosing a snack, go for nutritious foods such as cheese, raw vegetables, plain yogurt or a piece of fruit. Diet: consume cheese, curd, yoghurt, green leafy vegetables, carrots, apples, almonds. Acidic foods, such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, and lemons, should be eaten as part of a larger meal to minimize the acid from them which erodes the tooth enamel. The best beverage choices include water (especially fluoridated water), milk, and unsweetened tea. Chewing sugarless gum is actually beneficial to your teeth as chewing helps dislodge food that becomes stuck to your teeth. Teeth-care: these are some basic tips for caring for teeth and gums: brush your teeth regularly. Brush at least twice a day and preferably 30-60 minutes after every meal and snack. Use a fluoride-containing toothpaste. Floss at least once a day. Use a mouth rinse daily. Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings -- typically twice a year. Eat a variety of foods to maintain overall health. You can use homoeopathic toothpaste by sbl- homeodent.
