Respected sir my kid who is now 5 and a half year old was detected with bilateral relfux. His treatment is going under local expert doctors. We are not satisfy with the results till now. The condition is getting worst day by day. His bilateral urinary replacement is done. Still with his latest report we found that he has protienosis +, acidosis +, high blood pressure, and serum creatinine is 1.1 mg. We are just so worried and cant think of something else than his health.

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Ranchi
I would like to know whether reports are worsening or improving. What do you mean by bilateral urinary replacement(was ureterostomy done and if yes then when)? Also how severely the kidney is affected(was DMSA test done). Once the surgical decompression done the reflux decreases and the reports starts improving. Please attach the reports and provide details so that I better able to help you out. Regards

One year old baby can be given a variety of foods. Most of adult food can be given except that the spices / chillies should be low. You can give dalia, alu paratha, idli, rice with dal, soft cooked vegetables, lassi, curd, cheese, bread, potatos, sweet potatoes, roti with ghee, khichdi, banana shakes, apples, melons. If she is not taking milk then try different shakes like strawberry shake, chikoo shake etc. If still she refuses milk then calcium can be given through curd, cheese, paneer etc. Don't force a baby to take foods she does not like, try other things and maybe after a few months she may start liking milk. Giving Milk is not compulsory. Try different options.

Please check if he is having intestinal worms. Also note if this is genetic or not. Also in growing age most of the children do look sick and bony but as age advances everything will be fine. Give him a glass of milk daily - do note give any food-supplement - horlicks/bournvita/complain etc.

Tell me in detail that what kind of foods can I give to my baby after 6 months if my baby takes these foods well?

Your child can be started complementary feeds, which means home food in addition to breast milk. A six month old baby is ready for starting food other than breast/formula milk. You can start by giving the baby some fresh fruit juice, mashed banana and thin moong dal khichri. You can give narial pani, vegetable soup (strained). Remember that salt and sugar should be used sparingly. Start one thing at a time, see how the baby likes it.

The leg pain is likely to be" growing pain" you can give calcium supplement to decrease the pain. As regards the weight, give her a balanced diet with adequate nutrition. Deworm and start on iron supplements. Her weight will surely increase.
