I was suffering from knee pains and legs are slightly swelled up. Please suggest me.

BPTh/BPT, MPTh/MPT
Physiotherapist, Noida
Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

Hi I undergone a knee surgery (complete ACL tear) last month 13th. Still I have swelling. Is it common or I have to consult a orthopedic surgeon? Please reply.

MPT - Orthopedic Physiotherapy, Fellowship in Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (FOR)
Physiotherapist, Kolkata
If you didn't have proper Physiotherapy treatment after your surgery, it's likely to have swelling. Better to go for Physio treatment under a skilled Physiotherapist. Try Icing four times a day, it will help. Consult an Orthopedic Physiotherapist instead of Surgeon. Hope it helps. Thanks. Best wishes.

Hi. I've hypothyroid of tsh 6.9. This is about 4 months back. Since then I started to control my diet and I'm consuming regularly walnuts, fish oil tablets. And avoided food such as cabbage mustard etc. And I regularly walk for half an hour minimum during early sunrise. Is there any chance to get my thyroid status normal or should I continue the same diet life long.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
It is better to get tsh levels checked after 3 months. Only that will tell whether all the measures taken are beneficial or not. At 6.9 milli uits/ l it is considered as subclinical hypothyroidism, unless t4 levels are low and any symptoms of hypothyroidism are present no treatment is advised. Only after tsh level crosses 10 milli units, treatment is given.

Thyroid gland affects nearly every organ in the body. Many nutritional factors play a role in optimizing thyroid function. However, both nutrient deficiencies and excesses can trigger or exacerbate symptoms. Working in collaboration with a both a physician and a registered dietitian is essential to determine nutritional status for optimal thyroid health. Improper thyroid function causes undesired weight changes, significant cardiovascular risks, and symptoms such as fatigue, mood changes, and gastrointestinal upset, which can hinder the development of healthful behaviors. I focus on setting realistic goals for healthy changes and regular exercise when counseling clients. There many potential nutrient deficiencies and interactions with medications and supplements. Hence diligent care is to be taken while designing a holistic treatment plan. I being a both a registered dietitian and doctor have been successfully helping patients with their problems through a holistic approach using customized therapeutic diet and medications. I have been suffering from backbone pain so I need a proper suggestion to get cured as soon as possible.

MS - Orthopaedics, MBBS
Orthopedist, Pune
Hello lybrate user, back pain that is associated with day time sedentary jobs like computer professional s are associated with paraspinal muscle spasms. The best way to tackle this sort of pain is to do well spaced stretching exercises of the back, back extension exercises, using hot water bags to provide relief and avoiding stooping posture while sitting. Posture also plays a very important part in back pain, always maintain a straight posture while sitting. While getting up from the bed try to first go on your left or right side of the body and get up side ways. Avoid cruntches or sit-ups: they may increase the pressure on your back and may predispose to slip disc. Always maintain a healthy lifestyle in terms of regular brisk walking, meditation, eating healthy. P. S: try to avoid pain killers (analgesics) as much as possible as many are associated with side effects that you may not be aware of. Stay healthy. Stay happy god bless you.
