My mother is 45-46 years old. Her ankle swells most of the times and she feels pain for the same. Sometimes after taking medicines it goes away. But again it comes back. She has been suffering from this pain since many years. Her elbow joints on both the hands are also suffering from same kind of issues. Please suggest is there any kind of exercises she should do to avoid such pains / issues as she and we have lost faith on medicines and all. And also please let us know, should she avoid any such diets or foods which might be triggering such issues /pains in her body.

Hi initially, tell her to rest 1) apply cold pack or ice pack for 20 min. At every 2 hrs. 2) keep her ankle elevated by placing pillow under ankle. 3) wrap elastic bandage around ankle which you can learn from physiotherapist. Also ultrasound therapy will be good for her. And for elbow you have not given enough information do reply back for private consultation and detailed treatment plan.

Yes, I have forgot one thing. I am having the tailbone pain too since last 1 year and it's due to long time sitting.

Adv x ray coccyx ap & lateral view sit I such a manner so that tail bone does not touch the seat i. E. Sit with one thigh over the other or over a firm pillow so that the tail bone is hanging. Any way take caldikind plus (mankind) 1tab odx10days paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days.

Treatment and Care for Lower Back Pain

Back pain is a common source of pain, which can be acute, subacute or chronic in nature. Back pain is classified along the segments of the spine and can be divided into neck pain, middle back pain, lower-back pain or tailbone pain.

Lower back pain is a type of back pain, which affects the lower back portion of the body. It may occur from arthritis or due to sudden jerking during movement. Lower-back pain may cause serious discomfort and aching and may disable a person from moving about. It should be treated and cared for properly.

Here are several treatments and care procedures for lower-back pain:

  1. Take some rest: Most people who get lower-back pain get obsessed with it and end up getting MRI scans, x-rays done and take injections without recognizing the intensity of the pain. It is advised not to rush into the matter. A simple way to cure the pain is by resting. 90% of lower back pains resolve by themselves in 6 weeks and so you must give your back a break instead of taking medical action and give your back some to heal.
  2. Pills: Sometimes, a lower back pain can suddenly become severe. In this case, you should intake anti-inflammatory pills such as ibuprofen or naproxen. These pills will help you ease the pain. However, you should not take them for more than ten days at a stretch as continuous pill consumption can cause side effects.
  3. Hot & cold compress: Apply a bag of frozen peas or an ice pack to the affected area in your lower back for 48 hours after the pain appears. Every session should be about of 20 minutes and you should take several sessions each day. After two days, repeat the same procedure using a heat pad. The cooling procedure shuts down your blood capillaries, reducing the flow of blood to the affected area. The swelling is then eased. The heating, on the other hand, loosens tight muscles and helps to increase blood circulation.
  4. Replace your mattress: People who sleep on firm mattresses and cushions on their beds are at a higher risk of experiencing lower-back pain. If you sleep on a medium-firm mattress, your chances of getting lower-back pain are less. In case your mattress is sagging or is very old, you should replace it.
  5. Acupuncture: When your lower-back pain is very severe, you can take acupuncture injections, which provide efficient pain relief. The injections change the way your nerves react and inflammation gets reduced.

Lower-back pain is likely to cause great discomfort and trouble. You will be unable to carry out your daily chores because of the pain. Therefore, proper treatment and care are required for lower-back pain.

Hi if you have localized back pain with - no neurological symptoms like numbness, paresthesia, weakness in limbs etc, my advice is: - intensive physical therapy initially under supervision of a physiotherapist and then at home. - avoid forward bending, lifting heavy weights etc - take an analgesic like diclofenac or something which suits your body for 5-7 days - take muscle relaxant for same time as analgesic to relieve muscle spasm - ice packs at the site of pain, muscle spasm - local analgesic spray can be used but no massage is required let me know in a week time how you are feeling. I will actually ask you to get x ray of involved region of spine (ap & lateral) and send reports across to me so that I can advise further in a better manner. Try this for joint pains try this. Identify the mid point between the ankle bone and tendons and give pressure with a blunt edge on either side of your foot for 2 minutes. Also give pressure in the web between 2nd and 3rd finger from your toe for 2 minutes. Finally give a good massage for both feet in hot water. This will relieve your problem. Consult after 10 days.

I have a pain in my wrist and sometimes it hurts alot when I'm writing my notes. Also, my thumb used to shake when I use my hand to carry a bucket of water or grind something. I have gone to a doctor before and he told me to do hot water stimulation and gave me a pain relief. But it's not getting better. Please help.

Hello, You can have the following Ayurveda medicines: 1. Yogaraj guggul - 1 tablet � 3 times after meals 2. Maharasnadi kwath - 4 tsp + 4 tsp hot water � 2 times after meals 3. Vatavidhwansa rasa - 1 tablet � 3 times before meals 4. Murivenna tailam - Massage softly with this oil. Use it warm and then do hot fomentation if there is no swelling.

What I can advise you is that you will have to elaborate in detail your symptoms especially numbness etc. Also you will have to get a complete workup of your blood investigations which from my side will include: cbc, esr, crp, serum electrolytes, serum vitamin d and serum vitamin b 12 levels, thyroid profile get these tests done empty stomach from a good lab like srl or Dr. Lal's and send reports across to me. How can spinal compression be treated? The ortho said it will cure in sometime automatically soon? Is it any major concern please help? As its been almost 4 months now that I had injury physio told me exercises so after doing it the pain is almost gone but sometimes it feels like little pain in between? So after x ray doctor told its compression in lower back and it will cure soon don't want it to be an issue in future so please help thank you.

u have to do life time exercise no heavy weight lifting spinal cord compression can improve by that means only by that.otherwise surgical operation but after physiotherapy u have improved a lot so continue that no major problem will happen in future review back Be Healthy Happy

Hi lybrate-user, thanks for the query. Please do not anticipate about disease. This will bring only fear and anxiety. The pain in neck can be related to cervical spondylosis. Please investigate it with an x-ray cervical neck (ap and lat view). For acidity I would suggest to have some regular exercise schedule. As you might have sedentary life more. Less of exercise can bring such symptoms. Also please investigate your vitamin d and vitamin b levels. This will help you know better about your health. Kindly do the investigations and followup.
