The simplest method of removing minor surface stains is polishing, or micro-abrasion if staining is more intrinsic. Provided that your discolouration is not due to inadequate enamel exposing the dentin, tooth whitening (bleaching) is often the most effective treatment for yellow stained teeth. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Use snowdent tooth paste for whitening until then. Apply snowdent paste on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min. Then brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight for better results.

I have some white red dark patches in my mouth on inner cheeks feels rough when I touch it. Inside my mouth is red n white .kindly suggest what to do. Is it oral cancer.

There are many causes of white or white and red patches in mouth. Most common are cheekbites which are seen as horizontal lines in the middle of the cheek. Wisdom teeth can cause thickened white patch on the posterior part of the cheek. Candidiasis is common cause of white patch especially in those using steroid inhaler for asthma. Oral lichen planus a premalignant condition, gives rise to wickham’s striae which appear as white patches, but can also have reddish patches in erosive type. Submucous fibrosis is another premalignant condition which causes marbling or whitening of the whole mucosa & leads to decreased mouth opening as it progresses. Supari & tobacco consumption are the most common causes. Leukoplakia is white patch which cannot be attributed to any of the above causes. It is usually due to tobacco, supari or alcohol consumption. Most of the leukoplakias can be observed. They are innocuous and usually reversible if on the areas where most of the wear and tear occurs, like dorsum of tongue & buccal mucosa. But may need excision if on floor of mouth or palate, especially if speckled i.e. Leukoerythroplakia (with red spots in between), thickened nodular or verrucous leukoplakia as the chances of cancer in there is more than in the homogeneous ones. The cancerous transformation rate varies from 1-10% over 10 years. With about 40-45%% regressing & 40-45%% remaining stable. Erythroplakia is a red patch and usually a Surgical or laser excision is recommended for it as the chances of it harbouring malignancy are as high as 90%. Rct is required to treat heavily damaged teeth. If the damage is worst it is to b removed. Such treatments r required to taken before you wear braces to avoid further damage to teeth n adjacent teeth as braces'll take long time to complete. Also braces can cause more cavities if proper cleanliness is not maintained.

We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning and artificial enamel filling or root canal treatment. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.
