Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Looking at your weight and height it is claear that with a BMI of 30.65 kgs/Sq meter (normal < 23 kgs/Sq meter), you are already in grade 1 obesity. Which means there is excess of almost 20 kg weight. This is the main reason for your increased blood glucose level. If you reduce half of that weight, blood glucose will return to normal. Plus you will have to give a closer look at your diet. Avoid junk foods, pastries, bakery items, deep fried foods, foods made from maida. Avoid colas, smoking and alcohol. Rxercise for at least 1 hour a day. Increase the intake of green leafy vegetables and salads as well as fruits. Your present glucose levels point to being in pre-diabetes state. At this levels one can prevent developing diabetes by adapting a modified lifestyle. If not then there is every likelyhood of developing diabetes in next few years to months. The choice is with you. Now there is no need for medication, but if care is not taken, then you are likely to develop the same. Thanks.

Dear Lybrate user. Sex is always enjoyed if it is done with love, passion and affection. The love making time is important. It should be within 30 minutes. The more you try to extent it, the more you and your partner will be stressed and therefore the pleasure associated with orgasm will be simultaneously reduced. Therefore, limit the sexual performance to less than 30 minutes. Sex is energy consuming and your body needs proper rest and nutrition replenishment after every sex. Also keep in mind that you should provide 24 hours gap between two sexual intercourses. Sexual intercourse is not advised in the cases of stress, anxiety, physical fatigue, cough, cold etc. Take care.

Fever is not considered medically significant until body temperature is above 100.4 F (38 C). Fever serves as body's natural defences against bacteria and viruses which cannot live at higher temperatures. Also, the body's defence mechanisms seem to work more efficiently at a higher temperature -Fevers of 104 F (40 C) or higher may be dangerous and demand immediate treatments like: -Acetaminophen (dolo-650 mg) twice or thrice can be used to lower a fever . Aspirin should not be used for fever in children/ adolescents or during a viral illness. -Wear loose fitting clothes and don’t overdress. Overdressing can cause temperature to rise further. -Tepid water (85 F [30 C]) baths may help bring down a fever  -The body should be cooled with a wet sponge. -A fever can cause severe dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids.. Have citrus fruits, particularly Vitamin C rich ones like mausami, Amla juice etc.  -Take light and easily digestible home cooked meals like sprouts.avoid outside food -Wash hands frequently with soap and water especially after returning from public places or public transport.  -Further therapy depends on the cause of fever like urinary infection/typhoid or malaria/dengue infection and the accompanying symptoms that need to be investigated and treated accordingly

My hemoglobin rate is 12 out of 20 and doctor told me it should be minimum 15 for male and female. What precaution I will take for increasing for it by natural ways.

MANAGEMENT - anemia 1. Eat Iron-Rich Foods - Some good iron-based foods are liver, red meat, tofu, spinach, almonds, dates, lentils, fortified breakfast cereals, almonds 2. Increase Vitamin C Intake - Low hemoglobin levels due to a deficiency of vitamin C can be corrected by eating more foods rich in vitamin C. Iron cannot be fully absorbed by the body without the help of this vitamin. Eat foods rich in vitamin C like papaya, oranges, lemon, strawberries, bell peppers, broccoli, grapefruit, tomatoes and spinach. 3. Take Folic Acid - Folic acid, a B-complex vitamin, is required to make red blood cells. So, a folic acid deficiency automatically leads to a low hemoglobin level. Some good food sources of folic acid are green leafy vegetables, rice, sprouts, dried beans, wheat germ, fortified cereals, peanuts, bananas, broccoli and liver. 4. Beetroots - Beetroot is highly recommended to increase hemoglobin levels. It is high in iron, folic acid as well as fiber and potassium. Its nutritional value helps increase the body’s red blood cell count 5. Apples - An apple a day can help maintain a normal hemoglobin level. Apples are rich in iron along with various other health-friendly components that are required for a healthy hemoglobin count. For homeopathic medicine, contact us.

Sir, sometimes I found my cough mixed with blood but this is happened only once in four or five months. And recently I have seen the cough is mixed with a black colour and it appears almost in black colour. And for the rest of one minute the black coloured cough came from the nose. Can you say why does this happen?

MBBS
General Physician, Cuttack
It could be due to pulmonary tuberculosis. 1. Get your blood examined for esr, cbc. Do mantoux test, examine sputum for afb (3 samples. Take plain x ray chest 2. Consult physician with report for advice and treatment.
