Finger brushes like these are made of soft silicone rubber. They are effective in maintaining oral hygiene of babies between 6 months of age till the first birthday. At first Birthday, change to a 'Baby brush.
Start early. Let your baby grow up cavity-free.

Improper nutrition will lower your child's ability to fight infection. A 10 month old child needs vitamins, iron and proteins which cannot be provided by mother's milk alone. Avoid giving him ice creams, cold drinks etc give him dalia/rice khicdi with dal, vegetables and curd. Give suji/rice kheer, custard, yogurt. Give him fruits specially banana, apple, anar and other seasonal fruits he can now have 3proper meals. Try variety of things without being disheartened. Parenting is a tough job. All the best.

Hi my daughter doesn't like to eat anything. Need to feed her forcefully and she just vomiting the next moment after having the food. Please suggest me.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Hi my daughter doesn't like to eat anything. Need to feed her forcefully and she just vomiting the next moment after ...
Please tell her weight and do not force feed children and if the activity is good you can relax . Check her blood CBC and TSH. Things to avoid • Do not refuse to give high-energy foods, like ice cream, cakes, biscuits and chocolate, in the hope that your child will eat 'proper' meals and 'healthy' foods. Reason: This is not a good way to get your child to eat new foods, and your child might lose weight if you withhold their 'safe' foods. • Do not try to force your child to eat food. Reason: This will make your child even more anxious at mealtimes, and may cause your child to vomit the food back up. • Leave long gaps between meals to try to make your child more hungry or hide new foods inside foods that your child already likes. Reason: This will make your child less hungry over time, and may lead to weight loss. Some children can very easily detect new tastes and smells, even when hidden in other foods. Your toddler may just stop eating the liked foods. Things that help • Encourage your child to experience different textures through 'messy' play every day. Your toddler may find some textures (like Play-Doh) very difficult, so start with textures that they are happy to touch. This may need to be drier consistencies initially, such as rice or lentils. Gradually progress to more messy/wet substances, allowing your toddler to gain confidence. Have plenty of fun and get messy. If you don't like touching certain textures yourself, or don't feel comfortable allowing your toddler to make a mess, then why not take them to a playgroup in your area? Reason: Many children who are extreme food refusers are very sensitive to touch on the hands and mouth, and so will not even pick up new foods. Messy play helps them to get used to new textures. • Give small frequent meals of foods that your child accepts. Reason: Some children become very anxious at mealtimes and are sometimes very slow eaters. Small frequent meals will help them to take in the calories that they need. • Remember, even children who are extremely faddy eaters usually grow and develop normally, if they are given the foods that they will accept. Reason: It is important to keep your child growing well, and these extreme food refusers do grow as we would expect them to if they have enough of the food that they will eat.

Meet a pediatrician at your location to find cause of fever and get irrelevant investigations done. 5 days fever needs a blood investigation for confirming the source of infection.

General Physician,
Hello doctor, Please tell me how many pampers can be changed for a 6 month baby in a day?
There is no count of the number of pampers to be changed, it must be changed as soon as it becomes wet. It is better to use cotton cloth to make diaper like covering. You can ask me any further doubts.

Injuries - How to Prevent Them in Toddlers

Injuries - How to Prevent Them in Toddlers

With the word accident, the first thing that comes to our mind is a traffic accident or an outdoor accident. We all may usually relate accidents with outdoor hazards, but little do we realize that the place that we consider to be the safest, that is, our homes, has a number of hazards itself. Accidents at home are usually caused due to negligence. Children are especially prone to be hurt by such accidents. Just like we stay careful outside our home, it is also important to maintain safety indoors to prevent accidents.

Here are some of the common accidents that occur mostly to children along with the preventive steps that can help you to avoid them:

1. Fall: Falling is one of the most common accidents that children experience. There may be a number of factors such as objects scattered on the floor, the floor being slippery, unstable walking of the child, lack of supervision, etc.
Prevention

  • Keep floors clean, dry and free from unnecessary obstructions.
  • Always keep a check on your toddler as he learns to walk
  • Do not keep babies unattended when they are sitting on a high surface
  • Keep the bed rail of the baby cot raised whenever the child is in it

2. Choking: Choking is a serious condition that leads to breathlessness due to accidental swallowing of foods or objects, covering head by blankets, strangulation, etc.
Prevention:

  • Avoid toys that have small detachable parts
  • Keep a watch on your child when he/she plays with small objects
  • Keep children away from buckets or tubs filled with water
  • Never allow your children to play while eating

3. Burns: Burns may occur from contact with hot objects, hot water or fire.
Prevention:

  • Make sure that you don't hold a child and a hot object or beverage at the same time
  • Make sure that your child doesn't enter the kitchen without supervision
  • While preparing warm water for bathing your child in, always check the water temperature beforehand

4. Poisoning: Poisoning takes place under conditions of food poisoning or accidental swallowing of harmful substances like detergents, insecticides or drugs.
Prevention:

  • Keep all medicines, detergents, soaps and chemicals out of the child's reach
  • Store all chemicals and toxic substances in their respective containers or make sure the containers are labelled properly
  • Always keep a first-aid box ready at hand if you have a child at home. For severe conditions talk to a doctor or visit a hospital immediately.

Hibiscus leaves or flowers well, this is the best ayurvedic home remedy for hair loss. Hibiscus flowers and leaves can be very helpful in preventing hair loss and to promote hair growth. Hibiscus flowers are used as an effective cure for split ends and dandruff as well. Heat 12-15 hibiscus flowers in 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. Strain the solution and collect the oil. Apply this concoction to the scalp and hairs, leave overnight and wash in the morning. To use the hibiscus leaves, grind them into fine paste and apply the paste to the scalp and hairs. Leave it on for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Rinse off with plenty of water. This controls the hair loss automatically and promotes hair growth. Hibiscus leaves for strong and long hair.

My 17 month old son is passing too many watery loose motions and not passing urine past 18 hrs, please suggest

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Bangalore
Losing too much water can cause dehydration. Child needs plenty of fluids in form of ors and other liquids commonly consumed. If he has actually not passed urine for 18 hours the condition is serious, and you need to take the child to emergency immediately.
