Rainy Season - 7 Skin Care Tips For It!

MBBS, Diploma In Dermatology And Venerology And Leprosy (DDVL)

Rainy Season - 7 Skin Care Tips For It!

Monsoon is a season that brings respite from the sweltering heat and ushers in joy. But at the same time the season also brings along diseases and a threat to the skin and hair. However, all it requires is a little effort from your part to keep your skin glowing and healthy. Some of these are-

  1. Wash your Face Daily: The pores of your skin tend to get clogged with dirt and pollutants during monsoon causing the outbreak of pimples and rashes. Therefore it is imperative to wash your face two to three times a day to avert these eruptions. You can also use a toner in case you have dry skin to keep the pores clean.
  2. Use Moisturizer: Though using a moisturizer is almost always associated with winter, it is equally important to use it during monsoon especially during the nights. Night is the time when the skin tries to repair itself on its own, therefore applying moisturizer helps in averting the wrinkles and maintains the glow of the skin.
  3. Exfoliation of the Skin: Monsoon is the time when your skin requires the most pampering therefore an exfoliation at least once in every week will help you to keep the dead cells away, consequently helping you to keep your skin glowing and soft.
  4. Apply Sunscreen: Similar to a moisturizer, a sunscreen is a product whose benefits are strictly associated with summer. But that is not rather should not be the case. During monsoon, even though the rays of the sun may not seem harsh, it can as well damage your skin; therefore applying a sunscreen should be something you must not miss.
  5. Eat Green Vegetables: Your skin reflects not only the benefits of the cosmetic products that you apply on it, but also what you eat. Eating oily and junk products show their mark on the skin sooner than later, therefore the trick is to stay away from them and indulge in green vegetables. Your skin will inevitably show the benefits soon.
  6. Eat Fruits: The benefits of eating green vegetables and fruits go hand in hand. Rich in antioxidants, fruits help in maintaining the luster of your skin.
  7. Drink Lots of Water: Water has plenty of advantages and it takes care of the skin, health as well as hair. Drinking plenty of water during monsoon takes care of the skin and keeps the glow.

Hi, I am a male teenager and I have a lump right under my nipple. Is it breast cancer?

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, FBD (Fellowship in Breast Diseases), UICC Fellowship

Don’t reach to the conclusion. Breast cancer needs to be proved on imaging and biopsy. Normally in your age it could be a gynaecomastia.

Blisters - Best Ways They Can Be Managed!

MBBS, MD - Aerospace Medicine, Eular Certification in Rheumatology

Blisters - Best Ways They Can Be Managed!

Blisters can be a very major inconvenience. Though it seems to be a good idea to pop a blister yourself as it can otherwise cause distraction or may be uncomfortable and unsightly, puncturing it often does more harm than good. Here are a few ways mentioned about how to treat blisters. Read on more to find out all about it.

1. For a Blister which has not popped
a) Try not to pop the blister as the pus if spread can affect other areas
b) Leave the blister uncovered or cover it with a loose bandage
c) Avoid putting pressure on the area of the blister. If the blister has appeared in areas where applying pressure is unavoidable like for example at the bottom of the foot, put mole skin around the blister in a circular fashion such that the mole skin gets the shape of a donut.

2. For a blister which has been popped
a) Wash the area where the blister appeared gently with warm water. Apply gentle soap in the area as well to disinfect the region. Do not by any chance use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide or iodine in the area as it would cause complications.
b) Smooth down the skin flap which remains after the blister pops.
c) Apply antibiotic ointment in the affected area to prevent infections
d) Cover the region loosely with help of a sterile bandage or gauge.

3. When to drain a blister
a) For blisters which are painful, large or in awkward spots, it is better to drain them. Be careful and cautious while draining the blister and follow the below mentioned tips.
b) Wash the area where the blister has appeared.
c) Take a needle and sterilize it with alcohol and water.
d) Make an incision at the edge of the blister and carefully squeeze out the pus.
e) Wash the blister again and pat dry. Do not remove the skin flap which remains there after draining.
f) Smoothen the skin flap and apply antibiotic ointment in the region.
g) Wrap it up with a loose sterile bandage or gauge.

4. Follow up
a) Change the bandage on a regular basis, whenever it is wet or dirty.
b) Consult a doctor immediately if signs of infections like red streaks around the affected region, fever, or accumulation of more pus occur.

However, for blisters which have formed due to spider bites, chicken pox or such consult a doctor first.

1. Boil two green tea bags in one-half cup of water for 10 minutes. Remove the tea bags and cool them in the refrigerator for half an hour. Put the cold tea bags over your eyes for about 15 minutes. Follow this remedy twice daily for at least 10 days. 2. Lightly massage five or six drops of almond oil into the delicate skin under the eyes before going to bed. Leave it on overnight and wash it off with cold water the next morning. Follow this remedy daily until the dark circles disappear almost entirely.

Test for skin sensitivity before using by applying the cream to a small patch of hyperpigmented skin. If no redness or itching occurs within 24 hours, begin treatment. Clean and dry the skin before applying a thin film of cream twice daily to the area (s) in need of bleaching. Precautions Do not use benzoyl peroxide, hydrogen peroxide, or other peroxide products when using hydroquinone. A temporary dark staining of the skin may occur. If accidentally used together, wash the skin with soap and water to remove the staining. Hydroquinone creams may contain sodium metabisulphite that may cause serious allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis) in certain susceptible people. Hydroquinone should not be used in pregnancy or when breastfeeding. HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT: Hypericum is wonderful for healing nerve damage that might have occurred with burns, preventing infection and relieving the itch as the skin heals. It can be given alongside the other remedies. It is also helps to relieve the pain after skin grafts. Calendula is also wonderful as the burns become superficicial and begin to heal as it will help to heal the skin and prevent scarring. The last remedy that I want to mention is Thiosinaminum which is fabulous for dissolving scar tissue as the burns enter their later stage of healing and the skin can become a bit ropey and thick. Under homeopathic care, the burn victim will recover much more rapidly than normal and be at much more ease during their convalescence with less scarring.

Pimple are natural. It's only when they become stubborn that they need to be taken care of. Repeated washing with soap is also not advisable. Stop touching the pimples frequently as you may worsen the condition by being unhygienic. Eating right (more of vegetables and fruits / natural products) and exercising with boost your hormonal balance and help you in the long run. You can use creams and lotions only under the guidance of a doctor. If it is persistent you can opt for homeopathic treatment as it is safe.
