The only way to treat mandibular prognathism is by surgery. The forward projection of the mandible along with the alignment of teeth should be reversed and set back.

Broken File in Root Canal. I just had a root canal done today due to a deep filling I've had for a while. During the procedure, the general dentist broke the file inside the root.

Any dentist that does root canal procedures will have this occur. The main issue was the tooth vital or necrotic before the procedure and was adequate irrigation performed before the break. If the tooth was badly infected and the file broke early in the procedure then the chances are high you will have problems. If the procedure was a vital case and multiple irrigation solutions were used and allowed to be in the tooth for a long period of time you have better chances. The file being in the tooth is not bad but the pathology beyond the broken file is the issue.

I have rct of my tooth 4 year ago. But now mild pain start in that tooth. Not continuously but when I chew something. I consult doc. He said that your rct is not done properly. So he advice me re RCT. What should I do. please guide me.

I have rct of my tooth 4 year ago. But now mild pain start in that tooth. Not continuously but when I chew something....
Hello lybrate-user, your case appears to be that of a failed root canal treatment (rct). Ideally, in an rct-treated tooth, there is no vital tissue or nerve that can cause pain. However, in your case, it seems as if the procedure was not done properly. Taking pain killers will only provide transient relief. Most likely, you will be required to undergo a re-rct to get permanent riddance from this problem. Before initiating the re-rct, however, you will be required to take a 3-day course of medication.

15 days back 2 front top broken teeth were removed by dentist. I also went to a general physician. But I am not getting any better. Will permanent denture for front teeth help?

MDS Prosthodontics, B.D.S
Dentist, Kolkata
Please kindly fix an appointment with a dentist and do the needful. If teeth has been removed, its advisable to go for a denture. There are options available. For eg you can also go for a removable type denture or also a fixed type.

What Happens During A Routine Dental Check Up

What Happens During A Routine Dental Check Up

No one likes going to a dentist. People fear a toothache, let alone the treatment. Because of this, a lot of people end up in the dentist's chair only when the pain is unbearable and it is too late to save the tooth. Just like we have a routine health check up for the rest of our body, our teeth too need to be looked at by a dentist at regular intervals to spot that cavity right when it starts. A regular visit can also allow a quick clean up to keep your teeth shining white.

Here's what to expect during a routine dental check up:

  1. They'll check your history: Before you actually get to the dentist's chair, your dentist will want to know your entire health background. This is done either by you filling out a detailed form that the receptionist gives you or a junior dentist filling a medical record sheet after asking you questions. You'll specially be asked questions about any pain or symptoms you might be experiencing in your teeth and other things like medications, diabetes, arthritis, pregnancy etc. Each of these problems can have a direct impact on your dental treatment, hence revealing them to your practitioner in advance is very important. Also, be sure to discuss any concerns or anxiety you are experiencing. Most dentists know how to put their patient at ease. All it'll take is a quick chat to put you at ease.
  2. You'll get a cleaning: Just like the car gets a good wash before the mechanic can have a look, your teeth will get a good scrub before your dentist can address any problem areas. Cleaning involves scraping off built up plaque and tartar that collects above and below the gum line before flossing between and around every tooth to remove any plaque or food particles that are clinging on. You may also get a final shiny finish for your pearly whites at the end of the cleaning session.
  3. Your teeth will be examined: Your dentist will now use a metal probe with a small angled mirror to see behind and between teeth and gums, as well as check for the softening of tooth enamel and dentin. If you have a cavity or anything deeper, this is when it will surface. Once the doctor identifies a problem, they suggest the next course of action.
  4. You may get an X-ray: If the doctor finds a problem that needs fixing, he may ask you to take an X-ray to find out how deep the decay is. You'll be asked to bite down on a piece of plastic while the X-ray machine is placed against your cheek. Where possible, you can check if your doctor can do a digital X-ray which emits 90% less radiation.
  5. Results and advice: Based on your X-ray results and overall medical condition, the doctor may recommend various procedures to remove your existing decay and prevent new ones.

Some times if you do a over brushing or hard brushing then it causes abrassion to enamel. And due to enamel abrassion second layer of tooth ie dentine exposes. And once dentine is exposed patient feels sensitivity and even pain as well. These kind of cases needs a proper clinical as well as radiographic examination. And then v decide the treatment accordingly. For this process you have to visit a dentist first. And in d mean time you can use some desensitising pastes. They might give you a temporary relief. Thanx.

There's nothing called hollywood smile, I personally believe healthy teeth are better than white teeth. Treatment cost depends on too many factors including the condition of remaining teeth and your general physical condition, if you want to ask cost, consult with your opg xray.

Sir, I have a bad teeth. It hurts me a lot I feel to remove it. Wt should I do now?

BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
Sir,
I have a bad teeth. It hurts me a lot I feel to remove it. Wt should I do now?
Bad breath can be reduced or prevented if you: practice good oral hygiene. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to remove food debris and plaque. Don't forget to brush the tongue, too. Replace your toothbrush every 2 to 3 months or after an illness. Use floss or an interdental cleaner to remove food particles and plaque between teeth once a day. See your dentist regularly -- at least twice a year. He or she will conduct an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning and will be able to detect and treat periodontal disease, dry mouth, or other problems that may be the cause of bad mouth odor. Drink lots of water. This will keep your mouth moist. Chewing gum (preferably sugarless) stimulates the production of saliva, which helps wash away food particles and bacteria.

Don't cap your toothbrush while travelling. Capping the toothbrush may entrap moisture & encourage bacterial growth.
