Most probably it is plantar fascitis if she feels pain on taking first few steps in the morning. Best way to get rid of it is do some stretching exercises before getting down from bed. You can search d exercises on youtube by typing plantar fascitis.

Backache is a common ailment. Rule out diabetes & vit.D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. SPRING BEDS, FOLDING BEDS OR THICK MATRESS ARE HARMFUL Use no pillow under the head. Any way take IBUPROFEN 200mg OD & SOS x 5days CALDIKIND PLUS (mankind) 1 tab ODx10days You will need other supportive medicines also. Take multivitamins & other antioxidants along with. Do back (spine) exercises Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take Do ask for detailed treatment plan..Don’t ignore, lest it becomes starting point of a major problem.

My mother is 74 years old. Have sugar, pressure, little bit of heart complain sometimes besides have arthritis problem in knee and back also. But after doing physiotherapy she was doing well suddenly few days back she is suffering continuous pain in the back thigh from waist to knee. The pain is continuous. Can you give some advice on this ?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. It seems that your mother's problems are related to her lower back region, these kind of pains can happen because a nerve might be getting impinged due to which you can have pain running in legs, numbness, pin or needle prick sensations in legs etc. Also your mother's age is 74. Actually the best way to answer is to see what is her clinical examination like motor and sensory charting in lower limbs, and then see what mri shows. We can actually then correlate scientifically and prescribe medications. Otherwise we can start with some medications for neuropathic pain, gentle anti-inflammatory medications and intensive physical therapy and see how she responds initially. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Flat foot is a common problem which at your age can now be tackled with shoe modifications as advised. There are now centres available which do a detailed study of your gait and accordingly do the shoe modifications. Apart from that specific exercises aimed at strengthening the intrinsic muscles of the foot are very important. If you can send me your foot lateral standing x rays, I probably can see and advise you accordingly. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

Dear lybrate-user, your diet principle is simple, cut on the unecessary saturated fats and increase the intake of omega 3s, and to improve your muscle need to consume high biological value proteins. Take customised consultation for further guidance.

I would recommend seeing a physiotherapist for assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the underlying cause of your difficulty standing after sitting if you haven't already. One of the most common clinical causes of this complaint is a lumbar disc bulge although it could be due to other conditions such as coccydynia, spinal degeneration, facet joint sprain etc.

Although ankylosing spondylosis is not curable, its possible to reduce its disability. You need to exercise regularly. Get the help of a physiotherapist or yoga therapist. Your orthopedic doctor may give you some medicines to slow the progress of this disease. In case hip joint is involved its best to undergo total hip replacement. Please don' t take steroids.

How to prevent neck stiffness ?

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist,
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Your neck stiffness could be due to degenerative disc disease in cervical spine region, also it could be due to reasons in which cervical spinal canal can become narrowed besides other reasons as well. You should initiate: - an intensive physical therapy programme in which your neck muscles become strong gradually - you will have to take proper care of your neck especially while sleeping and working. - we can also initiate medications like gentle anti inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxants so that your neck stiffness subsides. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation. We might have to actually look at getting x rays of your neck region done in case you do not improve in next 2-3 weeks time.

I have shoulder ache. What should I do?

MD - Acupuncture, Pranic Healing, Diploma in Acupuncture
Acupuncturist,
I have shoulder ache. What should I do?
Massage with your thumbs from the mid points of the shoulder blades on both sides towards the lower back of your head up to lower level of the ears. Use oil or water for massage. Rotate your head clockwise and anticlockwise, forward and down, left and right a few times. Do for 5 to 10 times morning and evening. Give pressure the dipping point on the portion between the thumb and the index finger on the back of the palm. Press and release for 15 times where the pain is more. This will solve the problem. Further do some wrist rotation exercise. Consult after 5 days. For further guidance and treatment.
