Macular Degeneration - All You Want to Know About

Macular Degeneration - All You Want to Know About

Even something as small as an eyeball, has multiple parts within it. The retina at the back of the eyeball is responsible for the clarity of vision. The central area of the retina is known as the macula. Macular degeneration is the deterioration of this part of the retina. Macular degeneration is age related and is considered as an incurable condition. People suffering from macular degeneration experience blurred vision, black spots and may eventually lose central vision while retaining peripheral vision.

There are two types of macular degeneration; wet and dry. The dry form of this disease is more common than its wet form. Of these, the latter causes more serious vision loss. Dry macular degeneration leads to white or yellow deposits on the retina leading to further degeneration. In the wet form of this disease, blood vessels beneath the retina start growing towards the macula and may pull it away from the base when they break or leak fluid.

There are three stages of age related macular degeneration (AMD):

  1. Early AMD: This is diagnosed by the presence of deposits on the retina. In most cases, ether is no vision loss at this stage but regular check-ups are essential.
  2. Intermediate AMD: A comprehensive eye exam will show the presence of larger deposits or pigment changes in the retina. At this stage, slight vision loss may be experienced.
  3. Late AMD: People suffering from late AMD have noticeable vision loss. Though this disease is linked to aging, the exact triggers for macular degeneration are unknown. It is understood to be a combination of hereditary and environmental factors. The presence of certain genes and their variants has been associated with a number of cases of this disease. Studies also show that caucasians are at the highest risk of suffering from this disease. Depriving cells in the retina of oxygen can also increase a person's risk of contracting this disease. Other risk factors for this disease are obesity, smoking, high blood pressure and a light eye colour. The side effects of certain drugs can also induce this condition.

Macular degeneration is considered to be incurable, but certain forms of treatment can improve vision and slow down the rate of deterioration. Treatment prescribed by a doctor depends on stage of the disease and whether it is wet or dry. Studies suggest that a diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids can prevent AMD and lower the risk of its progression.

Whether there is any risk in vaginal delivery

Your chance of having normal baby depends on certain things like controlled thyroid status, detailed usg, regular check up, blood pressure, sugar etc. Vaginal delivery is not always risky if the conditions are well controlled but at this age, you may have prolonged labour.

During sex when I enter penis into vagina she says her vagina is burning due to intercourse some time. Please help me.

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear Lybrate user. The burning could be due to the friction inside the vagina. Don't insert your penis onto her vagina on the beginning of the sexual act. Take time for doing foreplay. Cuddle her private parts for around 5 minutes and then slowly, try to enter her. This increases the vaginal moisture and penetration will be easy. In spite of this step, if the dryness continues, use some vaginal lubricating gel. Take care.

Hi welcome to lybrate. If you have missed periods for 3 days we cannot say you are pregnant. You should wait for 7 to 10 days after delayed periods. After that you should get urine pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy.

Your son will be hungry and cry if he does not get sufficient breast milk. You can massage breasts with hand and press them while feeding. If secretion is less some medicines may help.

Check up needed to guide. Anju relax and meet a sexologist. All men/women are different in their sexuality and health. You need to go for check up with sexologist to know the cause and get guidance/treatment for improvement. If you value your sexual health and want to enjoy quality sex in marriage then understanding and learning about sexuality is needed. As we all believe that what we know by hearsay or porn watching is great but in fact what we all know and understand is only penetration and that's not quality sex.

wait for periods Treatment of irregular periods depends on the cause and your desire to have children in the future. Irregular periods can be caused by many different things. Changes in your body's level of the hormones estrogen and progesterone can disrupt the normal pattern of your period. That's why young girls going through puberty and women approaching menopause commonly have irregular periods. Other common causes of irregular periods include: ? Having an intrauterine device (IUD) ? Changing birth control pills or using certain medications ? Excessive exercise ? Polycystic ovary disease (PCOS) ? Pregnancy or breastfeeding ? Severe scarring (adhesions) of the lining of the uterus, a condition known as Asherman syndrome ? Stress ? Overactive thyroid or hyperthyroidism ? Thickening of or polyps on the uterine lining ? Uterine fibroids Turmeric Being a warming herb, turmeric is also considered helpful in regulating menstruation and balancing hormones. Its emmenagogue properties help stimulate menstrual flow. Moreover, its antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties relieve menstrual pain. ? Consume one-quarter teaspoon of turmeric with milk, honey or jaggery. Take it daily for several weeks or until you see improvement. ? You can also take turmeric in supplement form; consult your doctor for proper dosage.
