My mom has a problem of excess saliva secretion, she always has a running saliva from her mouth and she is not clear ...
Although excessive saliva is not too common, there are a number of conditions that can cause it - some harmless, others more serious. It is possible that your saliva problems are just a result of the way you speak. Some people speak faster or slower than others, just as some people blink more often, breathe faster, or have a more rapid heartbeat. This may just be what's normal for you. Since it is negatively affecting your life, I suggest your problem can be ignored. However there are medical conditions that causes excessive salivation injection glycopyrrolate reduces secretions in the mouth, throat, airway, and stomach.

Hi. Eye fatigue or eye strain is a common and annoying condition. The symptoms include tired, itching, and burning eyes. During sleep, the eyes are replenished with essential nutrients. Lack of sleep may result in persistent eye irritation. Management: Hold tap water in your flexed palm, dip your one eye closer to the water level, shut and open your eyelids often. Do the same with your other eye. Repeat this whole process 1-2 times more in a day. Give your eyes proper rest. Can keep slices of cucumber or potato or used tea bags over the closed eyes for sometime. Medication: Instill 2 drops of Euphrasia eye drops in each eye twice daily.

What treatments are there for keretoconus? I have this problem for past 16 years. It is difficult for optometrists to suggest spectacle for me. They are asking me to go for contact lenses. Is that required?

MD - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Amritsar
KERATOCONUS What is Keratoconus ? Keratoconus is a disease of the cornea in which the cornea , instead of being uniformly round in shape , tends to become conical , leading to progressive loss of vision. What is the cause of Keratoconus ? Keratoconus is caused as a result of thinning of the cornea of the eye. Normal Cornea is on an average 550 micron thick ( 1000 micron =1mm.) In patients of Keratoconus , the cornea may be as thin as 350 micron. This thin cornea , cannot withstand the pressure of fluid inside the eye and hence starts bending outwards in the form of a cone , hence the name , Kerato-Conus. At what age does Keratoconus manifest ? While keratoconus may start in early childhood , it may not be diagnosed until later when the child becomes aware of poor vision and then seeks checkup from an eye surgeon. Keratoconus may progress fast during the growth phase of life. Keratoconus may also be associated with severe eye allergy , where vigorous rubbing of the eyes could lead to Keratoconus. How can Keratoconus be diagnosed ? Advanced keratoconus may be diagnosed during routine eye examination but early keratoconus can easily be missed . The only sure method of diagnosing and monitoring keratoconus is by Corneal Pentacam Topography which gives us detailed parameters of the cornea hand helps us in making important decisions for the benefit of the patient. Can Keratoconus be cured ? Keratoconus cannot be cured but can be treated to achieve best possible results. Patients of keratoconus may need to consult an eye surgeon from time to time for monitoring of their problem and treatment as required. What is the treatment of Keratoconus ? There are two stages of treatment of Keratoconus : 1. Stabilization of Keratoconus. 2. Visual Improvement techniques. How is Keratoconus stabilization done? Stabilization of Keratoconus can be done with a technique called Corneal Collagen Crossliking with Riboflavin (C3R). With this technique , we first scratch the epithelium of the cornea and use a medicine called Riboflavin to enter the corneal tissue. Then the cornea is exposed to a light of a specific wavelength to activate the Riboflavin. C3R does not improve the vision in any way. It only helps in strengthening the thin and soft cornea so that it would not continue to get deformed . On subsequent visits after C3R treatment , Pentacam Topography is done to monitor the efficacy of the treatment. Only once it is established to a great degree that stabilization has been achieved , that any further vision improvement techniques are advised. How can vision be improved in Keratoconus ? Every patient and every eye of keratoconus is different and we may need to take separate decisions in both eyes of the same patient according to the severity of the disease. We try to advise the patient with the simplest and cheapest treatments as far as possible. Vision improvement may be done by: 1. Glasses : If keratoconus is mild and good vision is achieved by relatively low spectacle number , glasses would be advised to the patient . 2. Contact Lenses : Contact lenses are advised to patients where spectacle number is very high and good vision is not achieved despite using glasses. Most patients can achieve good vision with Keratoconus speciality contact lenses . If patient can tolerate these contact lenses , then he is advised to continue using them. In case patient is intolerant to contact lenses , or is unable to manage them , then he is offered other modes of treatment. 3. Intra-corneal Rings : Intra corneal rings are specially designed devices which are implanted in the cornea in an effort to decrease the irregularity of the corneal surface. These rings may also help in reducing some number of glasses also. If after intra corneal ring implantation , vision becomes better with glasses , then the patient is encouraged to use glasses or if possible , soft contact lenses if found effective. 4. Phakic Intraocular Lens Implantation : In case there is very high spectacle number that cannot be treated with intra-corneal rings , then we have to resort to implantation of either spherical or toric variety of Phakic Intraocular lens inside the eye. 5. Corneal Transplantation : Corneal transplantation is the last resort in cases of keratoconus if cornea is very thin and scarred and the above mentioned modes of treatment cannot be used. A full thickness cornea grafting of a lamellar corneal grafting may achieve moderate to good results . Can Lasik Laser help in improving vision in Keratoconus ? Lasik Laser is an absolute contra-indication in cases of Keratoconus and must not be done . For further information on Keratoconus , you may please write a mail to vision@daljiteye.com

Hi, Sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being throughout your life. Getting enough quality sleep at the right times can help protect your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety. In children and teens, sleep also helps support growth and development. Management: Here are five tips everyone can use to help improve the quality of their sleep: Keep your bedroom cool and dark Put away/turn off all electronic devices while preparing for bedtime Stick to a regular bedtime and wake time every day, even on weekends Stop drinking caffeine by the early afternoon and avoid large late-night meals Skip the late-afternoon nap, as it can make it harder to sleep at bedtime Avoid taking unnecessary stress/ tension. Do regular exercise. Go for a brisk walk in the morning. Medication: Take Schwabe's Bacopa Monierri 1x/ thrice daily and Kali Phos./ once daily at night for 1month.

There is no medication or food for improving eyesight or to get rid of glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser your number will not increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. As you are not comfortable with contact lens then go for lasik. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

Ayurveda and Myopia

Also known as short-sightedness, myopia is an eye disorder, which disables a person from seeing things clearly from a distance. Myopia impedes one's capability to see distant objects vividly and induces a general sense of blurriness. One of the most common cure for myopic conditions is the constant exposure to concave lenses, which stabilizes the curvature of the refracting surface of the eye, thus improving one's sight. Hence spectacles or contact lenses become the constant companion to a myopic individual. Myopia is often accompanied by sustained headaches and chronic colds.

In fact, under certain circumstances, myopia gets aggravated progressively, which often jeopardizes the health of the eye immensely. In the contemporary situation, where we are persistently exposed to gadgets of all sorts, maintaining the health of our eye becomes a cumbersome task. Periodic monitoring by ophthalmologists is a recommended method.

However, Ayurveda offers some easy and home-based formulae to alleviate the symptoms of myopia:

  1. Yashti Madhu:  A teaspoonful of Yashti Madhu mixed with ghee and honey can prove beneficial to healing myopic conditions.
  2. Saptamrita Lauha: This medicine comprises of constituents endowed with medicinal properties like triphala, yashtimadhu, lauha bhasma, ghee and honey. It benefits the nervous activities, thereby soothing myopic troubles. It reaps better results when consumed with milk.
  3. Diet: Myopia is often worsened by a deficiency of vitamins in the body. Therefore increasing the supply of vitamin rich food, enhances the immunity of the body and reduces the strain on the eye caused by myopia. Some of the food items that are replete with vitamins are carrots, green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, nuts and berries. Fish is also a very effective source of vitamins and is proven to be helpful to the eye.
  4. Netra Tarpan: Eye drops have often been effective cure to myopia. Netra Tarpan is an ayurvedic eye drop imbued with healing properties which not only tranquilizes the irritation in the eye, but also improves the vision.
  5. Lifestyle changes: Executing certain lifestyle changes can result in significant improvement in one's eyesight. Yoga and meditation are known to usher explicit health benefits. Regular sleep is also a prerequisite for curing myopia.

You have not mentioned your age if your age is more than 21 yrs ,your myopic power is not going to increase . Myopic power increases upto 21 yrs of age because body growth in male gets completed by 21 yrs. There is no direct medicine to improve vision but it you can take lots of green vegetables.-3D is considered very normal power, maximum increase in myopic power takes place between 13 yrs to 21yrs in male because maximum body growth takes place between these periods in male.

Redness of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1) allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. (2) infectious conjunctivitis: this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3) foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles (more common with people working in the iron industry) the solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist at the clinic. (4) raised intraocular pressure: this is a condition known as glaucoma. It is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral (occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5) inflammation of the coats of the eyeball. This is known as" uveitis" it is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person. (6) increased blood pressure. This has known to cause redness which is also known as sub-conjunctival hemorrhage. In this regard, a complete ophthalmic evaluation and a systemic evaluation is warranted. From the symptoms described by you, it seems more likely to be a case of infectious conjunctivitis. Maintaining the precautions and hygiene that I mentioned should probably work well for you. Also start using an antibiotic eye drop 6 times in a day along with a lubricant eye drop and an anti-histamine eye drop. (3-4 times daily) maintain strict eye hygiene. Wash your eyes every hour with clean hands and water. Avoid rubbing your eyes with cloth, fingers, handkerchief, etc. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care.

FICO, Specialist in Cataract,Cornea and refractive surgeries , MD - Ophthalmology

Normally the number gets stabilised by the age of 18 yrs. If its progressing then it could be progressive myopia or keratoconus. Nothing much can be done to halt the increase in number in progressive myopia. However there are procedures which help on keratoconus. Kindly consult ophthalmologist.

Hello, you should regularly use spectacles. You should do the below given exercises to strengthen the eye muscles. Warm your eyes. Rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times. Roll your eyes. Start by looking up and then slowly circle 10 times clockwise and 10 times counterclockwise. Focus. Hold a pen at arm's length, focus your eyes on it, and slowly bring the pen closer until it's about 6 inches away from your nose. Then slowly move it back, keeping your eyes focused on the pen, 10 times in all. Massage your temples. Using your thumb knuckles, massage your temples in small circles, 20 times in one direction and 20 in the other. Repeat the same actions above the mid-point of the eyebrows at the forehead, then below the eyes on both sides of the bridge of the nose. Take a mini-nap. Put your head back, close your eyes, and relax for 3 minutes. Insufficient sleep may weaken your vision, so shoot for 8 hours of sound sleep a night. Rest your eyes 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent reading or in front of the computer. If your eyes feel overly tired, lie down and place cooling cucumber slices over your eyelids. Medication: take homoeopathic medicine which will help you in preventing rather reducing the power of your eyes. Take physostigma 6/ thrice daily for 1 month. Thereafter, revert back for further guidance.

Hello lybrate-user. Though redness of eyes has variable causes associated with it, the history of chicken pox does give us some useful information. This means that the redness in your eyes could be due to viral infection affecting the conjunctiva and the cornea of the eye. This should be taken seriously and treated. The reason for the urgency is that at times viral infection of the eye tends to leave a permanent damage causing irreversible blindness in the eye. Otherwise, redness of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it.
