You can first form a routine of eating with other members. This happens mortally with pampering our children. Then increase the quantity of food gradually. You can try cypon syrup one spoon twice a day. It have sedative property so start the drug in evening or on holidays. No driving.

Hi Mr. Lybrate-user it is normal for the children of this age (<5yrs) to be fussy. If his weight and height is normal for his age and is healthy then it should not be a concern. Also don't force him and don't give frequent feed as he will not be hungry. Let him play and make him as for food and slowly make it a habit by food at appropriate time.

After every feed burp your baby. Babies may puke out extra milk after every feed which is like curd. But see if baby is gaining weight. If gaining weight normally then nothing to worry.

A nine month old is ready to eat from the family pot provided that the food is non spicy and wholesome. Offer the baby whatever is cooked in the house. Regular foods like dal, rice, khichri, mashed roti, boiled egg etc can be started. You can also give suji kheer, halwa, soups (Veg and non Veg) and chappatis soaked and mashed in dal, soup or dahi. A small amount of extra butter or ghee may be added to in the food. This adds to caloric value and helps the child gain weight. Fruits such as banana/mango can be given. Breast feeding should be continued.
7-8 kg at 9 months is good weight at this age. It is not necessary to add powdered badam etc. The tiny particles of badam can cause problems. Wait till the child at least one year old.

Bow Legs:What You Need To Know

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Kolkata
Bow Legs:What You Need To Know

Often children are born with bowing of legs, due to folded leg position in utero.

Once they start putting pressure on them while walking, they may straighten out. This happens generally by 2 to 3 years of age.

If not corrected then they may cause some serious problems:
*shortening of 1 leg
*deformity
*difficulty walking running
*higher risk of arthritis.

Persistent bowing may be due some deficiency:
**rickets
*Blount's disease
*lead or fluoride poisoning
*others

First few tests:
25 (oh) vitamin d3 level in serum
Serum free calcium level
X-ray of legs.

How will your pediatrician monitor for a change?

Measurements of distance between knees while a child is lying on the back.

This is monitored to see for any worsening

What can be done?

*treat rickets.
*any other underlying problem to be ruled out.
*braces orthopedic devices to keep the leg in straightened position (serious cases)
**surgery after 3 years (determined according to individual case basis)

All problems may not be solved but timely intervention can change the life of a child forever.

My baby is 3 months now but he is not drinking my wife milk properly so tell me why.
Hello,. There could be two reasons. 1. Either the milk production is insufficient. 2. The baby isn't latching on to the breasts correctly. Please sort out the above two.

My son who is 14 years old has been running a few 10km races. He cycles 4 km everyday. He wants to participate in a 21 km run. He would be jogging and walking alternately (ie not running the entire 21 K). Is it safe for him to participate? Any precautions? Any inputs/ advice would be greatly valued. Thank you.

Do burping after every feed for 5 to 10 min then only make the baby lie down. While doing burping only there will be little vomiting, for which you need not worry. For little vomiting just neglect nothing will happen. Give domstal drops if vomiting is more. After few months vomitings will subside totally.

I have 4 months baby. When I m pregnant I got pimples on my face and they turned into black spots amd after delivery ...
* Don't scratch or pinch your pimples. This will cause more damage and scars. . * Avoid fried and oily foods. * Prefer fruits and green vegetables. * When you apply any cream, sun screen and the like, clean your face at the earliest, so that there will be no adverse action of the chemicals on the delicate skin of face. *Your skin ‘breaths’ through its pores which are not to be closed for long. HOMOEOPATHIC medicines are taken internally. Hence, NO DIRECT CONTACT with your delicate and sensitive skin, thereby no problem of skin allergy .Homoeopathy has good treatment without causing adverse effects. The medicines work internally, tackle the root of the problem unlike face cream which is a surface treatment.. Take Antim crd 200—once daily in the morning. For further treatment, consult privately (Prime-Rs.149/). Acne riddance package for one month comprehensive treatment is offered at Rs 500/-
