In summers I always face a sneezing problem that last for whole day. It happens only in summers. As soon as I open my eyes ib the morning. Sneezing starts. sometime dry nose come out with blood chips.

DORL, MBBS
ENT Specialist, Faridabad
Sneezing problem and allergies are due to most of the time by means of weather change and due to anatomical variation of the nose which leads to change in the aerodynamics of the nose hence leads to watery nose this most of the time is over snsitivity on nose to outer environment, and we consider this as allergy all the time. Sinus is a normal roomy structure around nasal cavity its infection called sinusitis, if a person suffering from nasal obstruction along with sinusits and mild to moderate nasal allergies it means most probably he is suffering from dns (deviated nasal septum. Nasal obstruction is because of the deviated portion of the nasal septum (this is the bony partition of the nose cavity. Allergies are because of the hampered muco-ciliary mechanism (normally mucus is produced in the nose to moisten our nose cavity, oral cavity, and help food bolus to move downward, this mucus is basically moves on the cilia of the nasal mucosa) this mechanism gets hampered and mucus start accumulating in the nose and sinus cavity which is why thick mucus comes from nose in patients of nose obstruction and person develops sinusiits. When a surgeon removes the nasal septum deviation has not been removed properly the symptoms persists, and patient thinks that the nose bone has again regrown. It is not because of regrowth but because of half surgery done or due to the non removal of the deviation (reason can be many) nowadays nasal septal deviation can be removed endoscopically. Everything is explained in this, I hope this will benefit you.

I am a 13 year old boy. I have tonsil keratosis from about 2 months and its increasing. Due to this I have a bad breath. My throat pains sometimes. It also bleeds. What should I do?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Drink lots of fluids such as water and clear soups. Fluids help loosen mucus. Fluids are also important because they help prevent dehydration. Gargle with warm salt water a few times a day to relieve a sore throat. Throat sprays or lozenges may also help relieve the pain. Avoid alcohol.

What you need yo know about Chronic Sinusitis?

DNB (ENT), MBBS
ENT Specialist, Bangalore
What you need yo know about Chronic Sinusitis?

You may feel congestion or fullness all over your face, pain around eyes, forehead, and face, and may have a runny nose or nasal congestion. The condition may be chronic sinusitis and knowing the symptoms will help you manage the condition effectively.

Chronic sinusitis is a condition where the cavities around the nasal passages, i.e., the sinuses become swollen and inflamed and stays like that for about 12 weeks. It is a persisting condition, and one or more sinuses are affected in this condition.

What causes chronic sinusitis?
There are quite a few causes that can lead to chronic sinusitis. Some of them are:

  • A damaged nasal septum may cause the blockage of the sinus passages, thereby leading to chronic sinusitis.
  • The growth of nasal polyps in the sinus passages causes the blocking of the passages and thus may lead to chronic sinusitis.
  • Infections in the respiratory tract which can be viral, bacterial or fungal like cold and cough may cause the inflammation of the tissues in the nasal passage and thus block the passage for mucous movement. Such a condition also leads to chronic sinusitis.
  • Other causes include some medical conditions like any immune system related diseases such as HIV or any complications of cystic fibrosis, gastroesophageal reflux, etc.
  • Sometimes allergic conditions may also lead to the inflammation of the tissues of the nasal passage and result in the same.

Know The Symptoms To Self-diagnose
There are four primary symptoms related to chronic sinusitis out of which a person requires to be confirmed of the presence of at least two symptoms for the doctor to suspect chronic sinusitis. These are:

  • Congestion of the nasal passage causing breathing difficulties through the nose.
  • Discharge of highly viscous or thick, discolored mucus from the nose and also drainage of such down the back of your throat.
  • Swelling, tenderness, and pain around the eyes, cheeks, nose, and forehead.
  • A cough or reduced taste and smell sensations in the adults.

Other symptoms include a sore throat, pain in the upper jaw and teeth, ear pain, worsened cough at night, etc.

Clinical Diagnosis
There are quite a few ways by which your doctor is going to diagnose the problem, some of which are:

  • Observing the nasal passage by nasal endoscopy, that is by inserting an endoscope with a fiber-optic light. This process is also called Rhinoscopy.
  • Details of your nasal area can also be observed using the images obtained from a CT or MRI scan.
  • If any of the above tests fail, a tissue culture test of your nasal passage and sinus is done to identify the infection you are affected with.

Allergy tests may also be done if the doctor suspects the condition to be caused by any allergies.

Various medications, immune-therapies, and even surgeries are opted for reducing the inflammation or for making way for the mucus to move out. The treatment is chosen depending on the severity of the situation.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

I have throat problem since 15 to 20 years. It's a major problem for me. What should I do?

I have throat problem since 15 to 20 years. It's a major problem for me. What should I do?
Since you have a chronic throat problem, you need a thorough check up. Consult ENT specialist for advice

I have consulted another ENT specialist yesterday. He said that I have tonsillitis. It has caused me tinnitus. Is it possible to develop tinnitus because of tonsillitis? I am suffering from tinnitus for past 10 years. No other doctors have said this information. Few weeks ago I have suffered from cold and developed ear clog. From that time, I feel my ringing sound has become louder than usual. Still it has not reduced. Do tonsillitis and tinnitus are connected? I need second opinion in this case.

BHMS
Homeopath, Noida
Yes, it is possible. Do this Do saline gargles daily. Whenever possible do steam inhalation also. Cover your nose and mouth with hanky for at least 30 sec when you go in dusty areas also when you go in and out of AC. As our nose is the most sensitive part of our body, When there is temperature difference between two rooms or inside n outside, then if we not protect our nose, it gets affected. Homeopathic treatment has very encouraging results and gives relief in long term please ask for consultation with detailed information so that I can help you better.
