Irritable bowel ssyndrome is a combination of abdominal discomfort or pain and altered bowel habits: either altered frequency (diarrhea or constipation) or altered stool form (thin, hard, or soft and liquid). In my practise I have found that majority of the people who acquire IBS have a history of stress or dont have good dietary habits and routine.Precaution depend upon the causative factor plus our dietry habits.

A high-salt diet may increase the risk of developing gastric and duodenal ulcers. High concentrations of salt in the stomach can induce gene activity in the ulcer-causing Helicobacter pylori bacterium that causes it to become more virulent. Bacterial cells exposed to increased salt exhibit striking morphological changes. Cells become elongated and form long chains.

Salt restriction also reduces the diastolic blood pressure by 2-8 mmHg, said Padma Shri Awardee Dr. (Prof.) A. Marthanda Pillai, National President, IMA and Padma Shri, Dr. B C Roy National Awardee & DST National Science Communication Awardee, Dr KK Aggarwal, President Heart Care Foundation of India and Honorary Secretary General IMA.

According to a WHO report, reducing salt intake would be a cost-effective way to reduce the risk of developing high blood pressure directly and reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke indirectly. The report recommends people to reduce consumption of sodium to less than 2 gm per day for each person. Common salt is chemically called sodium chloride (NaCl). About 2.5 gm of table salt contains one gm of sodium.

According to a report published from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in the year 2000, the average intake of salt in India is 10 gm per day for each person. This would amount to about 4 gm of sodium. The current recommendations suggest reducing this consumption by half.

A research study conducted by researchers at Harvard Medical School and published in the British Medical Journal, found that reducing salt intake by 25% reduced the risk of developing heart disease by 25% and reduced the chance of death from heart disease by 20%.

In 2002, WHO estimated that about 62% of strokes and about 50% of heart attacks globally were attributable to high blood pressure.

Adding a pinch of salt to milk will keep it fresh longer is a common Internet tip for the population but traditional Ayurveda teaching goes against it. As per Charaka Samhita, too much of pipalli, alkali and salt are bad for the health. Ayurveda totally prohibits taking salt with the milk.

I am 21 year old today I checked my blood and it shows 3.2 bilirubin and the other sgpt and sgot are normal. How dangerous it is and can I cure this with controlling diet and how long it does take. I am not an alcoholic or smoker.

It's Jaundice. Not to worry. Just take good rest. No physical exertion should be done. Take hygienic food no out side fried and oily food intake. One of the ayurvedic herbs Named Bhumyamlaki (Phyllanthus niruri) is very good to lower down serum bilirubin. Tablet Nirocil 2tabs three times a day for 15 days will help. Wish you a good health.

Kidney stones are a very common health problem. They form from the chemicals in urine, such as uric acid, phosphorous, calcium and oxalic acid. Other common causes of kidney stones are excessive consumption of vitamin d, a mineral imbalance, dehydration, gout and an improper diet. The combination of lemon juice and olive oil is traditionally used as a home remedy to expel gallbladder stones but it can also be used to treat kidney stones. The citric acid present in lemons helps break down calcium-based kidney stones and stops further growth. 1. Take four tablespoons or a quarter cup of fresh lemon juice. 2. Add an equal amount of olive oil. 3. Drink this mixture followed by plenty of water. 4. Do this two to three times a day, up to three days. You need not continue this remedy if you pass the stones in a single dose. Any queries inform me.

lybrate-user, It would be a good idea to to get a oesophago-gastro-scopic examination done. It means a camera would enter your stomach from your mouth and the doctor can see if the stomach oesophagus junction is loose or not, which can cause GERD. So visit a surgeon and get examined.

If you have a problem in your gastrointestinal system, one of the first remedies you should always try is yogurt. Most of the issues in the gut have to do with a bacterial imbalance, too many or too few. Yogurt contains probiotics that stimulate the cultivation of beneficial bacteria, which will help keep the right levels of acid in the stomach, and prevent conditions like high acidity, and avoid spicy food and should have ginger tea daily and do consult a homeopath for complete cure.
