You will have to wait till your expected period date. If you miss your period do a pregnancy test. More accurate is a blood test for serum bhcg. Right now we can not detect pregnancy.

I'm recently married. My wife have thyroid. She don't get periods since last 30 days. Before 50 days she got periods for just 2 days like blood threads, that too very light bleeding. It never happened before to her. I tested her using pregnancy test kit twice it's showing negative. Please suggest some medicine to get periods.

Hello, She should get her thyroid profile done again and may require dose readjustment. If pregnancy is ruled out then she can get her menses by opting for progesterone withdrawal.

Can I masturbate with tap that is to flow water directly on my clitoris and vagina Is it harmful.

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
No harmful, many women do like that. Make sure the water is reasonably clean. You can also try sex toys, if you manage to get them, they are really helpful for females to masturbate without causing hurt as they are made of right material. All the best

I am 5 months pregnant. My doctor suggested Ultracet for tooth pain. I took only 2 tablets till now and wondering if its safe to take this medicine during pregnancy. Pls suggest.

Avoid pain killers ,instead take local application products so as to avoid any complications. During pregnancy all pain killers except the ones prescribed by a Gynaecologist is allowed. You may use ice packs to break the pain cycle.

Recanalization can be done for that but success rate is less and chances of ectopic pregnancy and reblockage are there.

What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?

Diploma in Advance Endoscopy, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG), MS, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Delhi
What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?

Polycystic ovarian syndrome or PCOS is a condition in which a woman experiences fluctuation of hormone levels, estrogen, and progesterone which causes cysts in her ovaries, dysfunctional menstrual cycle, cardiac problem, fertility and changes in appearance. Hormones are chemical messengers that can trigger a number of issues in the body. Long term problems due to PCOS can be avoided with an early diagnosis and a proper treatment.

  • Genetics and hormonal imbalance have been identified as the main causes of PCOS although the exact reason has not been discovered.
  • Overproduction of androgen, a male hormone in a woman can cause small lumps in the ovaries, irregular development of eggs and abnormal insulin level.

The severity of the symptoms depends on the constitution of the person but the most common one is irregular periods. PCOS occurs when there is a decrease in sex hormones which can lead to the development of certain male features like:

  • Deeper voice
  • Growth of hair on face, toes, stomach, chest and back
  • Reduction in breast size
  • Loss and thinning of hair

There are other symptoms as well which can help one to determine the syndrome including:

  • Oily skin leading to acne
  • Irregular egg formation causing fertility problems and miscarriages
  • Depression, anxiety and mood swings
  • Hyperinsulinemia, that refers to the presence of too much insulin in the body which can cause obesity
  • Difficulty in breathing while sleeping

The severity of the symptoms varies but if you are experiencing any of these problems, it is advisable to seek a professional consultation. A healthy lifestyle, regular exercise, nutritious diets are some of the preventive measures you can take. There are hormone regulating medicines and treatments that attempt to curb the condition but there is no permanent cure.

Medical Abortion With Tablets - Myths and Facts

DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology), MBBS
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Medical abortion using tablets is the need of the hour especially for today's youngsters. Improper and inadequate knowledge about safe sex practices and contraception can create a lot of problems for the young couples.
My sincere appeal to all young couples is not to feel shy and hesitant in approaching a doctor for advice on contraception as because nobody is going to be judgemental on them. It is a professional world and any doctor would be more than eager to help out a patient.
Generally what happens is whenever there is a pregnancy happening out of a relationship, it puts the couple in a panic situation and there is a tendency to try and get over the counter medicines or maybe approach quacks or try and consume some so called food items which may lead to an abortion. These are the usual mistakes done by youngsters as they want to hastily get out of the mess without having to tell anybody.
The biggest concern in approaching a known doctor is the couple does not want to get identified, secondly they feel the doctor is going to take them through a long drawn medical procedure which is going to be costly and they would probably be asked to come along with a parent or a guardian for obvious reasons and hence they refrain from meeting a doctor.
Now coming to the facts-----
1. No need to panic if you realise that you have an unwanted pregnancy
2. Approach a gynecologist as soon as possible
3. If the doctor asks you get a sonography done please do so
4. You should always be knowing your blood group and hemoglobin levels before taking any tablets for abortion
5. Abortion can be very safely done with tablets under the guidance of a gynecologist and you do not need any hospitalisation. 2--3 visits to the clinic can complete the procedure
6. Only 1-2% patients may require a curettage of the uterus if the procedure does not get completed with tablets, which definitely the treating doctor would discuss with the couple and explain.
7. This medical abortion with tablets is not overtly expensive and is quite manageable with your pocket money (mobile phones are much more expensive).
8. There are no long term side effects of this procedure on your future fertility
9. Most of the doctors would be cooperative and would protect your privacy. You may have to sign a few forms for you should not hesitate as it is part of the procedure.
10. Nobody is going to be judgemental on you so take it easy and seek medical advice.

I had irregular periods. My doctor prescribed Me regestrone for three days. I got my period. During that time I was also given some antibiotics like microdox lbx. My period started on 12th and ended on 18th but I have been having continuous spotting till now (24th). The blood is brownish (kind of like the blood at the end of a period cycle). So far it had been very little but today I experienced a heavier discharge of dark, sludgy blood. My reports show that I didn't have either viral, parasite or fungal infections. Basically infection was "sterile" according to my doctor and therefore she decided to put me on broad spectrum antibiotics. Why am I experiencing this bleeding? How can I stop it? Is this dangerous? My doctor will not give me clear answers over the phone and I'm traveling. Please help me.

Hi,In irregular periods, when the periods get delayed your uterus lining will get thickened. And when you get bleeding it will shed out for longer time.Do an USG scan of pelvis and look for thickness of endometrium. Please restart regesteroneIn once a day and continue for 15days .Then stop it .when you get periods again you can restart RegesteroneIn from 5 th day and continue for 21 days. This will regularise your cycle. If you need a detailed consultation please revert back to me.

My pregnancy 9 months completed How to have normal delivery Blood hemoglobin 10.5.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Normal delivery is a natural process and all pregnancies are designed to be delivered normally. It happens without any precautions. There are no ways to prevent cesarean section. People will advise you to do clean the floor and all that but all that is not proven to be effective. No extra precaution is needed for delivering normally. There are certain things which are not in your hand i. E. Position of the baby, passage of motion by the baby inside uterus, amount of fluid by the side of baby. All these factors and many more can decide your mode of delivery.

Hi am Anjali, a 30 yrs old married girl. Earlier I used to have regular but very painful periods and got my chocolate cyst (9cm) of left every operated in march 2013. Had taken Lu pride injection and had no periods till 7th months of my operation. Doctor had suggested for immediate conception after resuming of my periods but I could not conceive so far. The pain remained the same after my operation also and I used to take" Super spas" I again consulted a gynecologist on 21st September 2015. I got my sonography done and again have 2 cm cyst in left ovary only. Medication are on. I am taking" Productive F" tablet after breakfast n" Ovigyn DSR n overall G" after dinner. Doctor has said that the cyst will be dissolved with these medicines but she did not assure me. She also said that because of the cyst I am not conceiving though I am getting regular periods. When I asked the doctor that what is my right ovary doing. She said that right ovary also might have small cysts which could not be diagnosed in sonography. please suggest. Thanks.

DGO, MD, MRCOG, CCST, Accredation in Colposcopy

From what you have written it appears you are suffering from Endometriosis. This is known to cause fertility problems even in the absence of ovarian cysts. Since you have a small cyst on the ovary it would be best to start taking pills for three months and then repeat the USG to see if the cyst has gone. If still there you may need a repeat laparoscopy first followed by IUI to help you concieve

Rice bran 5gm twice daily with jaggery will relieve your neuritis.

Hi Everyone. My wife have taken two tests, one on the 3rd day when she missed her period and one five days after (in the morning). Both are negative. She has small constant cramps in lower abdomen and backaches. Today Morning she noticed a drop of spotting spotting with white discharge but not heavy, only one drop. Can She be pregnant despite the negative test results? Do I need to wait for few more days or you want me to consult with DR's? I appreciate any response to this question.

Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi. The right time of getting the pregnancy test done is 1 week after the missed period (or expected date of menstrual date) as the hormone responsible for making the pregnancy test positive is excreted in urine then only! So, wait for 3 more days and repeat the test. And let me know th report. All the Best!!

I am 23 years old female I am having lump in right side of my breast and it has increase in size! I don't have any pain in it the lump can move every where in breast. It is movable. Is it cancerous or non cancerous?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
It looks like it is fibroadenoma, it should be removed only if painfull and increasing rapidly in size after initial investigation like mammography and sonography of the breast and/or FNAC. Fibroadenomas are not cancer and don’t increase the risk of developing breast cancer. They occur because of an increased sensitivity to the female hormone estrogen. It is very common can occur in numbers. Most are about 1 to 3cm in size but occasionally, it can grow to more than 5cm. Most fibroadenomas stay the same size. Some get smaller and some eventually disappear over time.
