Myself and my fiance does not want any child for four years after marriage. So which is the best contraceptive pills to avoid pregnancy and with less side effects?

Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. If you do not want children and if you want to adopt contraceptive methods, male or female condom is the best and healthy and inexpensive method. Pills do have some side effects and always it ruins the health of your partner. Even if you go for pills, you need to get a prescription from a gynecologist. I suggest male condoms. Take care.

My partner had her periods ending on 14th August and we had unprotected sex until around 21st and 22nd. When is the latest to know that she has conceived? What are the symptoms to know about pregnancy before she skips her periods which is due on 10th next month. Any inputs will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Bangalore
Dear Lybrate user, Missing of the scheduled menstrual period is the most important symptom. Others include feeling lethargic, tired, nausea, vomiting, generalized weakness, feeling uneasy etc. At times, there may not be any symptom. Confirmation about conception is through Urine pregnancy test, done few days after missing the menstrual period.

Usually before periods the breasts become heavier and have some pain sometimes, and subsides after periods, but in case the pain is intolerable or not decreasing after periods, you may get mammography done and get back to us for further advice on this.

Hlo sir and mam. My sister is conceive 2nd time after 2 year of first baby (multigravida) Last tm her pregnancy history is caesarian section and girl baby delivered at 10 month (postmaturity), no history of uterine contractions or labour pain. But baby is healthy, no any abnormality. Nd dis tm Dr. said baby not deliver with NVD coz of umbilical cord around the neck of baby. Expected date of delivery is 18 august. Why in dis condition baby delivered with normal vaginal delivery? ANd please tl m dis condition effect on baby health or not? Please tell.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology - Ireland, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, DGO, MBBS
IVF Specialist, Delhi
Single loop of cord around the baby" s neck is found in around 25 % pregnancies. It interferes with delivery only in some by hindering the decent of babies head but is not and indication to caesarean section but can cuase the need of emergency cesarean if it hampers normal delivery. The delay during vaginal delivery and the possibility of it becoming tight during vaginal delivery may shut off blood supply to brain of baby temporarily which may not happen in all but to avoid such thing completely may be you have been offered lscs.

Hello, she was in her fertile period when you both had unprotected sex and hence chances of pregnancy are high. As she has missed her menses so please get a urine pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy.

Dear Lybrate user, Do Urine pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy first. If negative, repeat the same after few days if the period doesn't come. If stomach ache is in the lower part and/ or severe, consult Gynaecologist.

How to remove early ectopic pregnancy without surgery? I mean is there any medicine for ectopic pregnancy?

M.B.S.(HOMEO), MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Visakhapatnam
At any stage of development, surgical removal of an ectopic growth and/or the fallopian tube section where it has implanted is the fastest treatment for ectopic pregnancy. Surgery may be your only treatment option if you have internal bleeding. When possible, surgery is done through a small incision using laparoscopy.

Me and my gf had sex before 2 weeks of her periods without any contraception. I had ejaculated before and then went for an intercourse with her. It was her first time and it pained so we stopped. But after 2 weeks (on the due date) she had a lighter period with almost no pain and it lasted only two days. We are very worried. Could she be pregnant?

MBBS, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, FMAS, DMAS
Gynaecologist, Noida
Hello, As she had her menses she is unlikely to be pregnant, but nevertheless get a serum beta hcg test to conclusively rule out pregnancy.

I am 30years old my right tube removed for lefttube tubectomy is done in2010 years but now I want a baby girl what can I do now pl advice me.

MBBS, DGO, MD, Fellowship in Gynae Oncology
Gynaecologist, Delhi
There are two option for you, one you can go for re canalization and the other is you can go for ivf. But considering your age and since you have only one tube we would suggest you for ivf, as after recanalization your tube might not be as healthy as earlier & chances of tubal pregnancy are more also with one tube natural conception rate is less, so for now best option for you is ivf.
