My oral hygiene is poor. My gums and teeth are not healthy. Despite frequent brushing, plaque is forming and causing bad smell. I was told that it is due to dry mouth. While brushing I observed that my saliva is very gummy. Is there any advanced treatment to improve enamel. My teeth are frequently turning into yellow colour. Please guide me.

Treatment for bad breath (halitosis) will depend on its cause. Usually, the most effective treatment is improving your dental hygiene. As part of your daily routine, you should: Brush your teeth and gums. Floss between your teeth. Clean your tongue.

Always use a fluoridated toothpaste for brushing and brush twice a day.

A few months back I removed two backside teeth (one tooth on each side) due to cavity. Three weeks back, I got removable tooth for both. Since then I feel very uncomfortable to eat. I do not enjoy the food I do not feel like wearing those two removable teeth. Will there be any issues if I do not wear them and take care of the remaining teeth.

Hello Lybrate user removable dentures are that too for two teeth are not very helpful for chewing. Instead of this removable denture at your age I would have suggested you implant (screw reatined teeth) or fixed partial denture (fixed denture with support from adjacent firm teeth). I can understand both oadjacent teetptions are costly bot will serve your purpose for a very long time. Not wearing the denture the you are currently wearing will not cause any immediate effect, but long term consequences includes moblity in the adjacent teeth. Hope this helps.

Save a Knocked Out Tooth!

Save a Knocked Out Tooth!

More than 5 million teeth are knocked out every year in children and adults. With proper emergency action, a tooth that has been knocked out of its socket can be successfully replanted and last for years. It is important to see a dentist as soon as possible after the tooth is knocked out. Quick action will increase the likelihood of saving the tooth.

Saving a Knocked Out Tooth:
1. Pick up tooth by the crown (the chewing surface) not the root:
Locate the tooth immediately; do not leave it at the site of the accident. The tooth should be handled carefully touch only the crown to minimize injury to the root.

2. If dirty, gently rinse tooth with water:

  • Do not use soap or chemicals
  • Do not scrub the tooth
  • Do not dry the tooth
  • Do not wrap it in a tissue or cloth

3. Reposition tooth in socket immediately, if possible:
The sooner the tooth is replaced, the greater the likelihood it will survive. To reinsert, carefully push the tooth into the socket with fingers, or position above the socket and close mouth slowly. Hold the tooth in place with fingers or by gently biting down on it.

4. Keep tooth moist at all times:
The tooth must not be left outside the mouth to dry. If it cannot be replaced in the socket, put it in one of the following:

  • Emergency tooth preservation kit
  • Milk
  • Mouth (next to cheek)
  • Regular tap water is not recommended for long term storage because the root surface cells do not tolerate water for long periods of time.

5. See a dentist within 30 minutes:
Bring the tooth to a dentist as soon as possible, ideally, within 30 minutes. However, it is possible to save the tooth even if it has been outside the mouth for an hour or more.

I am a man 33 years of age. I keep getting a lot of decays in my teeth. Although I have got a 6 of them filled a couple of years back new decays have developed. I'd also like to add that I brush my teeth properly thrice a day. I have started experiencing sensitivity in two of my cavities now for which my dentist suggested I get root canal treatment done. I do not want to go through the pain of all that. I want an end to these problems and would like to know if I have an alternate to RCT. Be it in Ayurveda or homeopathy.

There is no any alternative of RCT . If u take any medicine whether ayurvedic or allopathic it will give u only temporary relief not cure you permanantly. So better you go with Rct.Relief from sensitivity I would like to add that either you use your brush vigrously or either using hard brush. Always use soft brush. Do mouthwash regularly. Untill that u can use sensitive paste like hiora k or thermosealRA. Sensitivity will be ok..twice daily affected area.
