DNB, MBBS

Usually there are four stages of cancer one to four, fourth being metastatic disease. People die of cancer due to its aggressive behaviour and ignorance of its initial symptoms and landing in clinics in advanced stages.

My mother is 56 year old she had carcinoma breast cancer grade 1 we did Right radical Mastectomy on 22/9/2016 before that she had 3 chemo. But now after surgery is it necessary to give chemo pls advise Our regular visit doctors had asked to give next three chemotherapy.

MBBS, M S General Surgery ,

Hi once your mother's tumor is removed then the sample will go for biopsy report so once the biopsy report comes them the type of chemo will be planned .but as of now as you r saying that she was given chemo before .then most probably .she will get a full course of chemotherapy.

I had taken mammography of both breasts because of pain this is the impression of report I got (Complex cysts are noted in both the breasts, benign calcification in right breast, Birads-2)

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Birad 2 cysts are benign and can be observed. Probably you have fibroadenosis and you can take vitamin e supplement and primosa 1000 for 2-3 months. Please also get your hormone levels checked as it is hormone dependent.

Hello sir. I am 25 year old. I am a student. I had used tobacco products from last 10years. Now I want to quite this. But I am unable to do this. I am getting afraid that may be I get caught by cancer. Suggest me what should I do. I also unable to concentrate on my studies.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear sir, it's really surprising that from age of 15 yrs you have been consuming tobacco. It's high time, you must quit. Tobacco has addictive tendency, so first you have to be determined, make up your mind and stay away from such places or people who distribute this. You can use nicotine gums or patches to kill the urge for time being. You can use alternative chewing materials like sauf, clove or mouth freshners to keep your mouth engaged. I have seen that determination and willing ness to quit is the best way to quit. Life is very precious, save it.

Hi, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 59. In 2012. She had mastectomy for her left breast. Her tumor size was 2*2*1.5. 15 lymph nodes were dissected. They were free of tumor. Her deep resection plane is also free of tumor. Her er n PR were positive n her was neg. She did not receive any radiation n chemo. Instead she was asked to have letrozole for 5 yrs. I want to know her prognosis.

UICC International Fellow in Oncollogy , ESTRO certification in Head and neck oncology, MD - Radiothrapy
Oncologist, Jamnagar
As per your reports she was pt1n0, hormone receptor positive, her 2 negative disease. In this selected class of patients, we avoid radiation and chemotherapy. And give hormonal treatment only. Having excellent prognosis. To justify role of chemotherapy in this group, we now have a test called oncotype dx (was not available in 2012). But overall your mom in a curative stage. We recommend three monthly follow ups for two years and then six monthly for next three years (total five years). Then yearly life long.

It might be normal breast milk secreted during pregnancy. If pain is more we need to rule out infection by doing clinical examination and treated accordingly.

Dear mam, neck node or lump in neck is may be one of the signs of cancer, but there may be other causes aswell especially if it is painful than it is more likely to be inflammatory. You need to see ENT surgeon to evaluate clinically and prescribe antibiotics. If he finds it suspicious then he will advise fnac from the lump to be more sure of the cause.

I am 21 years old female. I have a doubt regarding the consumption of caffeine (through tea or coffee). Does caffeine have any affect in breast infections or cancer because I am a bit addicted to coffee.

DNB, MBBS

Caffeine as far as I know doesn't have carcinogenic potential rather some feel it has protective role. Though it may be related to hypertension, anxiety disorders acidity but so far it is not considered carcinogens.

Cancer, cause is not know, not transferred from one to another. HIV transmission is through sex, blood and mother to child.
