Hello sir, I am suffering from short sightedness. What should I do to avoid increasing my specs number! Please tell me.

DOMS, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Get your refraction done and wear spectacles. Eat green veggies. Carrots. Strain less your eyes. Relax your eyes in between work. Blink regularly if working for long time on computer. Lower the brightness of your screen. Work under adequately illuminated conditions. If needed wear corrective spectacles. These are few things you can take care of. Otherwise as such no options available which with increases your eyesight. You cant do anything to prevent your refractory error. Looking at your age I think it will stabilize in an year or two.

Hello I am 28 years my weight is 48 kg. I am computer operator. My diet is overall right. My body is also active. But I am so thin. I am not going to latrine regular basis. After 1 or 2 days I relief better after discharge my latrine. I am facing same issue more than 5 to 6 years. Is it any big issue or What can I do for my body.

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Hye, Thanks for the query. Gaining weight requires you to eat more calories than you burn. Although fried or sugary foods are calorie dense, eating them exclusively won’t provide enough nutrition to keep you energetic and healthy. Eating several meals and snacks throughout the day and including nutritious, calorie-dense food will help you gain weight healthfully. Weight gain depends primarily on your genetics, age, weight and activity level. To gain weight, you need to eat more calories than you burn. If you’re not used to eating large quantities of food at one time, you may find it difficult to fit all of your calories into three meals per day. Eating nutritious, calorie-dense foods every two to three hours will help you get your calories in without making you overly full and sluggish. If you tend to forget to eat or are always on the go, bring calorie-dense snacks such as eggs, mixed nuts, fruits and dairy. Nutritious, calorie-dense foods provide essential vitamins and minerals, which promote good health and energy. Adding ghee and cream to foods adds additional calories for very little extra physical bulk. Fruit juice, masala milk provides crucial nutrients. Drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day. Meal-replacement shakes and protein powder sound like good options but also remember that unless your diet is not planned sadly they won't help. A good diet and exercise routine should help your constipation issues. If the issues don't solve you might need a diet intervention for which we may have to go for a personalised diet plan.

I have red eyes since last 2 week. Which creates a problem whenever I study. Please help me?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Your Red Eyes are due to Eye strain, or asthenopia, and this is a condition when the eyes get tired from excessive or intense use. It can be annoying, but it tends to disappear with rest. Although it’s not often a serious condition, eye strain could be a symptom of an underlying problem. Eye strain is known to cause fatigue, difficulty concentrating, Rednes and watering Eyes and headaches. The first thing you can do is change your environment and work habits. By doing this you can relieve the pain and Redness without spending money on treatment. While Studying try taking more eye breaks by looking down the hall or out the window, or by closing your eyes for thirty seconds.Try standing up, moving around, or taking a short walk to help regain concentration. Regular eye exercises that involve focusing on different distances can help prevent future straining. Blink often. Blinking refreshes and replenishes your eyes naturally. If you are having trouble with blinking due to the dryness of your eyes, try using Homoeopathic CINELUBE EYEDROPS (HAPDCO) 3 times daily.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Hello lybrate-user. There are a few important precautions to be followed while riding 2 wheelers. Let me enumerate them in brief:(1) always wear protective eye wear like helmet or sunglasses to shield your eyes from dust and ultraviolet rays of sun. (2) wash your eye with clean hands and clean water daily at least 3-4 times. (3) avoid rubbing your eyes with fingers or handkerchief or any cloth. (4) avoid smoking and tobacco products. (5) use a lubricant eye drop 4-5 times daily. All these precautions may take time to be imbibed in your routine but once done so, you are sure to benefit a lot. Take care. Regards.

My son is 5 years old. Frequently he get cold when season changes or when ice creams taken. Recently he got eye allergy and found long site problem. Suggest for further for reducing this problem.

DOMS, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Hello Mr. Lybrate-user, well your son is having chronic allergy, frequent cold and redness of eyes with frequent eye rubbing are the symptoms. Chronic allergy is quite commonly seen these days and this is seen frequently in your son's age group. Don't worry about it but this problem continues for long and you have to be vigilant to get him treated properly everytime. He has to use glasses everytime as this will help with his eyesight as well as keep dust n other allergens away from eyes. Wash his eyes every time he comes home from outside. Start with some immunity booster preprations and multivitamin supplements along with antihistamines. Take care.

Respected sir. From the last 2 days when I get up from my sleep in morning my eyes become sticky and yellow coloured particles are stuck in the eyes. Pls address the issue.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Hello lybrate-user. During the course of the day, our eyes get exposed to a lot of dust, pollution, pollen, irritant substances etc. They tend to get lodged in the corners of the eye. While sleeping at night, the particles migrate to the medial part of the eye (near the nasal bridge). This tends to cause stickiness of the eye along with yellowish discharge. A good remedy for this would be to wash your eyes with clean hands and clean water in a gentle manner first thing in the morning. This simple yet effective measure will help in solving your problem. If it persists or if there are associated problems such as blurring of vision, pain and continuous discharge, it would be better to get your eyes checked by an eye specialist in person. Hope my suggestions helped you. Feel free to communicate for further assistance. Take care.
