Am suffering from cough and cold for a long period, recent I diagnosed hyper infected both lung fields and eosnophils count 534. Age 30 am getting fever and cough, so pls suggest me a treatment.

MBBS
General Physician, Kolkata
Dear Lybrate user, It seems that you are sufferring from chronic allergic lung affection with secondary bacterial infection. High eosinophil count points towards allergic reaction. So, you can take antiallergic medication. Such as Monteleukast+levocetrizine combination once daily at night for 10 days, and if you have fever, you should take paracetamol650 tab three times daily. You can take antioxidant capsules once daily also. Avoid dust, strong odour of perfume, incense sticks.

I am taking Bupron XL 150 mg for depression. I am diabetic and asthmatic also. I am taking glyciphage 500 mg 1-0-1 and Salbutamol 2 mg 1-0-1 for Asthma. Will this cause hyperglycasema and will it react with anti-asthmatic drug? Please advice.

MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Bupron is known to interact with analgesics, antiallergics, in long term use, however there is no known interaction with glyciphage and salbutamol.

I have dry cough for like 3 to 4 days. I even have taken mucolite syrup but it only gives instant relief so what to do?

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Firstly there's no lifelong cure for the common cold. Antibiotics are only effective against infections of throat and are of no use against cold viruses. Over-the-counter (otc) cold preparations won't cure a common cold or make it go away any sooner, and most have side effects. A saltwater gargle 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2tsp turmeric dissolved in a glass of warm water can temporarily relieve a sore or scratchy throat. To help relieve nasal congestion, try saline (pure salt water) nasal drops. If you have a throat infection, or a viral cold then I will prescribe appropriate meds based on your detailed assessment. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.
