Sir my father is 46 years old. He has Spine Tb dorsal 6,7 for last 4 months. And he is undergoing medicine also for last 4 months. Dear sir mam I want to be ensure that he is how much better. Which tests or xray, are required for it?

MD - Alternate Medicine, BHMS
Homeopath, Surat
Hello, I would suggest you that don't for any tests or radiological tests without the consultants' permission. Those rays may hinder the TB bacterias and can lead to some adverse effect. Please wait for the physician for that to ask for reports. Don't just go for any such reports haphazardly. Take care. :)

If symptoms are sneezing, running nose, blocked nose 1. Take proper rest/ lot of fluids 2. Take proper home made diet. 3. Steam inhalation carefully by steam inhaler twice a day for 2-3 days frequent/ continuous cough cold may be because of many reasons like: 1. Any ent problem like dns polyp sinusitis 2. Low immunity 3. Allergic condition There are some supplement available that can be start after personal consultation and these supplement can reduce severity and no. of episodes of this problem so you need to consult ENT doctor for proper examination and further management.

Whooping Cough in Kids - How It Can Be Treated?

PGD Maternal Child Health, MBBS
General Physician, Akola
Whooping Cough in Kids - How It Can Be Treated?

Whooping Cough (another name for Pertussis) can be termed as an infection to the respiratory system caused by the bacterium Bordetella Pertussis (B. pertussis). It generally affects infants (below one year of age) and who have not yet been immunized; also kids between 11 to 18 years of age whose immunity graphs are on a downward spiral.

What are the Signs and Symptoms?
Initially, whooping cough produces signs and symptoms that may just seem to overlap with those exhibited during the average cough and cold; mild coughing, sneezing, runny nose, low fever, etc. These persist for about a week or two and then slowly, there is the onset of the dry, irritating cough which again turns to prolonged coughing spells. The child’s face may seem flushed with a purple hue. The child may also vomit or make the distinctive whooping sound at the end of one such spell. Breathing difficulty can be another issue.

What is the Diagnosis?
The doctor performs an initial check-up followed by tests of mucus sample from the nose or throat. The mucus is checked for the presence of the Bordetella pertussis bacteria. To make a more thorough diagnosis, a blood test is also advisable.

What is the Treatment?
Hospitalisation might be required in case of acute distress. Respiratory support may also be provided if required. If there is intense dehydration, intravenous (IV) fluids may also be administered. As this disease is on account of a bacterial infection, antibiotics will be needed. But these will just treat the immediate effects and the cough cannot be completely done away with.

What can be the Possible Complications?

The possible immediate complications include:

  1. Brain Damage
  2. Pneumonia
  3. Convulsion
  4. Haemorrhaging in the brain

What can be the Prevention?
Vaccination is needed in order to prevent whooping cough. The vaccines are advised to be administered at the age of two months, four months and six months respectively. The 1st booster dose is to be given at 16 to 18 months age and 2nd booster dose is given on 5 year completion of age. An optional booster may be given at 10 year age. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a general physician.

Hi I have a problem. My head throbes when I get fever or cold. And it starts bulging out. I am undergoing homeopathy treatment. It stops wen I take medicine but re appear again wen I take tension or cry. Whats the reason is it sinus.

MS - ENT, DNB (ENT)
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Delhi
This could be because of a sinus infection. I would recommend that you see an ent specialist for the same, who may like to ask for a ct scan of the sinuses and head. It could be because of a neurological problem also, but consult an ent doctor first. Regards.

Facial fullness nasal, blockage, post nasal discharge headache etc are signs of sinusitis. If sputum is yellowish definitely there is source of infection. You need to take antibiotics and decongestant alongside steam inhalation.
