Give the rest for injury area apply ice fermentation 3 times a day avoid weight lifting. Apply this methods for 2 days. If the pain is not reduced consult orthopaedic physician or physiotherapist for further evaluation and treatment.

I Have a pain at the ligament of my left knee. It aggravate sometimes when heavy pressure is given on my left leg.How can I get rid of it, so that I can carry on my regular physical exercises & works too.

This could be due to oa knee. Physiotherapy along with medicines will help. Do knee exercises. It may have to be further investigated rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with a soft bedding on it. Any way take multivitamins & other antioxidants along with. Ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days you will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. . Apply Hot Fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural Correction- Sit Tall, Walk Tall. Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Back Stretching- lie flat, pull one of the knee forward to chest, hold for 3 seconds, then bring the other knee forward to the chest and again hold for 3 seconds. Then pull both knees towards the chest and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 10 times each exercise twice a day. Do the cat/cow stretch. Get on all fours, with your arms straight and your hands directly under your shoulders; your knees hip-width apart.

Dear, you might be suffering from arthritis. Do cryotherapy for pain relief and consult your physiotherapist for knee exercises. Avoid squatting, stair climbing. Have a check on your body weight and bone density. Take care.

My mother is paralised in right side at 01january 2015 at 8 pm. We are taking treatment continue till today. But we could not got recover setisfactory. Her right is not working and right leg is not working complitly beside this her right feet is swaling. Her treatment is tab. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Use no pillow under the head. Kindly take BioD3 Max 1 tab dailyx10 Paracetamol 250mg OD & SOS x5days Do back(spine)/shoulder/knee exercises Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take Do not ignore it. It may have to be further investigated. It could be beginning of a serious problem. If no relief in 4_5 days,then contact me again. Contact your family doctor or nearest hospital for emergency help.

I get a leg muscle pain whenever I go to work after a long vacation. Is there any cure for it?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Actually pain at calf/leg region can be due to many reasons, commonly it is muscular in nature but it can also be due to tendons, nerves, blood vessels etc. My advise to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning once pain has subsided - slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre activity warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - we will get some blood tests for you - serum vitamin d and serum potassium levels, esr and crp once you have all these reports then you can contact me as I can advise you for proper supplementation do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. I get imbalance feeling/ not standing still/ bouncy feeling with exertion/ activity, bending over, standing and working for sometime. It does not happen when I get up in the morning but as day goes by. It causes tiredness and I need to sit down. This goes away after sleeping/ taking rest. What could be the reason. I have cervical spondylosis, (pain in the shoulder blade/ base of neck, crackling sound when moving neck) and eardrum perforation from long time. Bp normal range, pls guide.

Quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

Treat Lower Back Pain With Ayurveda

Lower back pain is characterized by a constant feeling of pain in the lower back region. There are various Ayurvedic remedies that are used in treating lower back pain. Ayurveda is based on the belief that the body is composed of five elements; air, water, ether, fire and earth. The Ayurvedic remedies help in balancing the various constituents, thus reducing the pain.

The various Ayurvedic remedies for lower back pain are:

  1. Limit intake of spices: Various spices, especially the pungent ones, such as chilies tend to have a drying effect on the body. Excessive dryness in the body leads to an imbalance of the 'doshas', thus resulting in pain.
  2. Stay warm: It is recommended to stay warm in cold weather as the joints in the lower back region may be inflamed due to the cold.
  3. Focus on a proper Diet: Make sure the foods you consume are warm as cold foods can create imbalances in the body. Eating warm foods allows for proper excretion of bodily wastes. Also include natural foods such as vegetables and fruits in your diet.
  4. Avoid junk food: It is advised to avoid junk food at all costs; eating processed foods leads to toxin accumulation in the body that result in various complications. Thus, try and eat whole foods such as rice, nuts and legumes.
  5. Oil massage: Oiling your body with sesame oil helps in preventing dryness of the body and also enhances blood circulation. It also improves the health of the skin; making it young, supple and fresh.
  6. Exercise regularly: Exercise on a regular basis to keep your muscles and joints healthy. Postures such as the plank and the bridge help in strengthening various muscles of the lower back. The 'Cat cow' is another position that helps in relaxing the nerves of the back.
  7. Pranayama: Alternate nostril breathing techniques help in reducing aches in the body. It also revitalizes and increases energy levels in the body. Try and get into the habit of breathing from deep within the stomach in order to avail of the benefits of pranayama.

Low backache is common during pregnancy because of lumbar lordosis. Keep your posture correct. Check your s. Vitd3 and calcium levels. If they are low your gynaecologist can prescribe supplements. Avoid travelling and exertion.

As your age is 60 year and no history of any trauma most probably this problem is because of joint degeneration for the confirmation of diagnosis take an x ray if it is confirmed than start physiotherapy treatment and glucosamine if you are not diabetic. For physiotherapy treatment take appointment of physiotherapist.

Severe Neck and Shoulder pain Hello Dr. I have been suffering from severe pain in the neck area and occasionally in the shoulders too. I have this problem since my school days (got it checked and doctor told that everything is fine) but I have learnt to live with it by applying pain balm so far. Off late the pain has been very severe (mostly after a good days workout, but this was not the case previously. I have been working out for several years, but the pain started recently). I am an IT professional and hence this might be quite common but the pain has increased too much off late. I have to swallow pain killers to reduce, but am sure this is not an permanent issue. Is there anything that I can do come out of this solution permanently. Is there an medication I can start with, or if I need to consult a doctor then kindly suggest whom to contact.

Hi lybrate-user, Do you have pain on weekend holidays? Now U will have to look out whether it has got some relation with work. Adjust your work station. As a IT professional you work long hours with computer. your eye level should match with the top of the screen. Any thing up or down may put continuous pressure and may cause neck and shoulder pain. If you use mobile phone with head down looking at the hand set you may face same problem. So correct your posture while using computer and mobile. Neck muscles exercise both active and passive. U will definitely get some relief.

Hi Mr. lybrate-user Your heel pain is definitely because of your low vitamin d levels you need to take vitamin d supplementation Vit d (cap Lumia) 60,000 IU for three days then once a week for 3 months Also you are diabetic and need to start diabetes medication you should meet an endocrinologist and also get your HBA1C levels checked.

Hi looks like you have restless legs syndrome (rls) kindly rule out iron deficiency, diabetes. It can also be due to peripheral neuropathy alcohol and sleep deprivation. Treatment * begin a regular exercise program, *establish a regular sleep patterns, and *eliminating or decreasing the use of caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco, may be helpful. *leg massages *apply hot baths or heating pads or ice packs to the legs do reply for detail treatment plan. Backpain at your age can be due to lot of causes. Mostly long sitting activities can lead to weakness of back and neck muscles resulting in pain. You should do back muscle strengthening exercises and postural adjustment. Hot bag and diclofenac gel are also useful use vitamin d supplements if long standing symptoms are there then you need to be investigated. Get x rays of lumbosacral spine and show.

Applying cold compresses to the painful knee is one of the best and easiest ways to reduce pain and swelling. The cold will constrict the blood vessels, reducing blood flow to the affected area and thus reducing swelling. It will also give you relief from the pain. 1. Wrap a handful of ice cubes in a thin towel. 2. Apply the compress to the affected knee area for 10 to 20 minutes. 3. Do this two or three time daily until your pain is gone. A bag of frozen peas also works well as a cold compress. You can opt for alternating hot and cold compresses as well for chronic pains. Also take mag phos 6x - thrice daily 4 tablets each time. Do a x-ray of the affected area.
