lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. If hypothyroidism is present and if if not in proper control, then menstrual problems are bound to be there. If you are on treatment with levothyroxine thenTSH should be maintained between 3 to4 mU/L, for being free from all the symptoms. Treatment has to be for lifetime. There is no CURE. If proper treatment is not taken then there can be infertility also or if conception takes place baby may get affected or pregnancy outcome may be bad. Thanks.

Abnormal (Dysfunctional) Uterine Bleeding - Treatment + Management

MBBS, MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Abnormal (Dysfunctional) Uterine Bleeding - Treatment + Management

Any kind of bleeding from the uterus, which is not normal, can be termed as abnormal uterine bleeding. This refers to bleeding between periods or before periods, bleeding after having sex, spotting, abnormally heavy bleeding or bleeding after attaining menopause. If you are suffering from any of these issues, you need to check with the doctor.

Diagnosis
It is very important to diagnose abnormal uterine bleeding. There are several examinations and tests that have to be carried out, depending on age. For irregular spotting, a pregnancy test can be undertaken in case you think you could be pregnant. If your uterine bleeding is very heavy, a test has to be performed to check blood count. This is done to observe whether you have anemia. An ultrasound test of the pelvic region will also be advised by your doctor to know the cause of the bleeding. Several hormonal tests and thyroid function tests are required as well.

Other diagnostic tests include:

  1. Sonohysterography: When fluid is placed within the uterus and ultrasound images of the uterus are taken. An image of the pelvic organs is obtained.
  2. HysteroscopyIt can be carried out when a device is inserted via the vagina and enables the doctor to examine the uterus internally.
  3. Magnetic resonance imaging: This is also used to get images of the organs.
  4. Endometrial biopsy:  It involves insertion of a catheter to take out a tissue which is microscopically observed. Mirena is also inserted if ultrasound and biopsy is normal to control bleeding.

Treatment
There are different types of treatment for abnormal uterine bleeding depending upon factors such as the cause of bleeding and the age of the patient.

  1. Medications: Several medicines are used to treat abnormal uterine bleeding. Sometimes hormonal medicines are used. Birth control pills are also used to improve the regularity of periods. Hormonal infections, vaginal creams and an IUD device releasing hormone can be used. Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are also used to control bleeding. Several antibiotics may also be prescribed.
  2. Surgery: In some cases of abnormal uterine bleeding, a woman has to undergo a surgery for the removal of growth such as polyps and fibroids, which results in bleeding. While some fibroids can be removed via hysteroscopy, others require different techniques for treatment.
  3. Endometrial ablation: It can be undertaken to control bleeding. This mode of treatment aims at reducing the bleeding permanently. In case all treatment methods fail, hysterectomy has to be carried out. This is a serious surgery and after it is performed, a woman does not have periods anymore and will not be able to conceive a child.

Abnormal uterine bleeding is a serious health condition, which may lead to severe complications. Immediate diagnosis and appropriate treatment methods should be undertaken in case of any abnormal uterine bleeding. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

Hie doctor. I was in a relationship for more den seven years. I am getting married to another guy. I want to operate vagina as it has expanded very much also my breasts are sagging. Please suggest some medicines n olso doctor for a check up.

M. Ch. (Plastic Surgery), MS - General Surgery, MBBS
Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon, Noida
You will need both vaginoplasty (making vagina tighter and smaller) along with hymenoplasty. This is safe and there are no scars out side, after some time no-one can identify. Mere hymenoplasty can not tighten roomy vagina. You can consult a plastic surgeon.

Homoeopathic treatment for Warts on face neck hands feet genitals

BHMS
Homeopath, Sindhudurg
Homoeopathic treatment for Warts on face neck hands feet genitals
Warts are common, and are caused by a viral infection and are contagious when in contact with the skin of an infected person. It is also possible to get warts from using towels or other objects used by an infected person. They typically disappear after a few months but can last for years and can recur.

Homeopathy treats the person as a whole. It means that homeopathic treatment focuses on the patient as a person, as well as his pathological condition. The homeopathic medicines are selected after a full individualizing examination and case-analysis, which includes the medical history of the patient, physical and mental constitution etc. A miasmatic tendency (predisposition/susceptibility) is also often taken into account for the treatment of chronic conditions.

Hello doctor, My friend eats pencil leads from. I am very much worried about it. Does it causes any health issues. How to stop her by doing that? Please reply. Thank you.

Hello doctor, My friend eats pencil leads from. I am very much worried about it. Does it causes any health issues. Ho...
Now a days pencils don't contain lead. Pencils use a carbon-based substance called graphite. Though graphite has many of the same physical properties as lead, it is not toxic. It's not a heavy metal, so the body can easily break it down and dispose of it. Unless the pencil is coated with a lead-based paint, getting lead poisoning from a pencil is virtually impossible.Chewing pencils remains dangerous without the threat of lead poisoning. Sharp pencils in the mouth can cause cuts in mouth. Sucking on objects could cause dental problems later in life. If swallowed, a pencil can damage the gastrointestinal tract and a surgical abstraction might be necessary. In the classroom, pencils can be covered with germs and if you are chewing on her pencil in class, you are more likely to catch colds or the flu. Additionally, pencils can be coated with harmful substances. So avoid putting pencils or any other nonfood objects in mouth.--------- Just explain your friend the harmful effect off pensils .She will definitely stop this habit.

1. Water retention can be due to changed Thyroid levels. Please do a recheck of your TSH levels. 2. Water retention can be due to lack of sufficient drinking water and taking lot of salts - pickles - chips etc. Please increase water intake and reduce salt intake. 3. Don't presume body bulk as water retention unless your doctor has said that it is water retention. 4. No need to take any Protein supplements, Just take natural proteins like Nutrela nuggets, mushrooms, chickpeas, kidney beans etc which are a high source of proteins. 5. Milk and milk products are good sources of nutrition, you can take them unless you are facing any specific issue. Please do not listen to random people giving random advice since most of it is based on heresay and myths.
