You need to approach your depressive symptoms professionally, rather than feeling it s your own ill doing. Depression can occur due to medical reasons or external resons or a combination of both. Consult a psychiatrist, depending on the type, and severity of depression, remedy in the form of CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) and antidepressants will be suggested for recovery. All the best.

Homeopath,
My weight is 86 kilograms and I am a regular alcoholic meri sharab pine ki aadat nahi ja rahj hai roj pita hu or mera...
Dear Mr. Lybrate-user, quitting alcohol needs a bit of will power. In case you find it difficult to stop alcohol then you should decrease your alcohol intake on regular basis. On first 7 days try to take one peg less everyday than you drink in other days. On the next 7 days try to decrease another peg. Carry on this process. Homoeopathic mother tincture acid sulph q, 15 drops, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water will help to decrease your craving for liquor. For your problems of being over-weight I would advise you to walk for one hour daily. You have to simply burn the extra calories. Now kindly pay attention to quit your addiction for smoking. Quitting smoking is far more difficult than quitting alcohol. You have to control yourself a lot to abstain yourself from smoking. Try to cut down the number of cigarettes you smoke daily. Don't try to stop it all at a once. Homoeopathic mother tincture daphne indica q, 30 drops, thrice daily, after meals in a cup of water effectively helps in quitting smoking.

Dear lybrate-user, it is good that you wants to stop smoking, try this method we are destroying our health by smoking normal human takes oxygen into lungs 12 -15 times per minute (12 - 15 breaths) lungs mixes oxygen in blood and it purifies our blood, by smoking we are mixing not only oxygen adding and mixing bad elements like nicotine etc. In oxygen, that spoils our blood and our body all organs like lungs, heart, kidney etc. In our body. How to quit: by willingness and willpower" where there is a will there is a way" reduce one by one day by day.

I like my best friend and it feels like he too but he says he like me as a best friend only. We have been talking daily since 4 months. I feel like i am addicted to him because i feel like talking to him all the time and whenever he is not there or doesn't reply i get depressed . What should i do?

Your best friend seems to have a social life beyond you while you don't seem to have much because you are dependent on him for getting attention and recognition. Try to look beyond him as there is a lot more to life. Be open to meeting more people and experience new situations. You will be a stronger and smarter person and capable of handling any tough situations. Give yourself a chance and look beyond him.

Good Morning ~ I am so glad you are seeking help for your wife. I am sure that if it were not for your your wife would have been lost due to paranoid schizophrenia. I also realize how hard it is to deal with someone with paranoid schizophrenia and realize that your problems as a care giver are immense. I believe after having read your description of the medications regimen and her symptoms, I am sure you need second opinion and you are at the right place. A small tweak in the medications that you use along with the help of a psychiatrist may make a large difference in your symptoms. I am sure you will also benefit from a paid appointment as it will not be in a public forum and you can get prescriptions for your wife if I believe she would need some medication changes.

Kleptomania is a impulse control disorder where a person robs, steals or shoplifts without any notion of using the stolen articles. There canbe many causes for such behaviour. If no therapy is working, better consult a psychiatrist for pharmacotherapy

Hi some time I feel I can't do anything about my life I feel that is so hard . i think i had depression.
You are not depressed but have despair, disappointment, frustration and hopelessness. It may convert in depression if prolonged. You need psychological counseling and training to learn either to avoid or to control or to tolerate or to cope with your despair, disappointment, frustration and hopelessness. You have to learn stress, anger & despair management as well as to manage the situation smartly without hurting anyone otherwise your social and personal relationships would be damaged and also keep you hopeful and motivated by controlling over your despair.

All your suffering, anxiety, dream etc., are nothing but deviations. At the age of 21, if a person's predominant thoughts and activities are directed towards career goals and achievments he will most likely attain a bright future in married life and social life as well. Your fear of becoming a gay is absolutely irrational. Take deep dive into your career goal, all these unnecessary thoughts and fears will automatically vanish.

Hlo sir, I am feeling depressed due to my personal reason nd I am feeling very please pls tell me what should I do?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

Hlo sir,
I am feeling depressed due to my personal reason nd I am feeling very please pls tell me what should I do?
At your age this claim is serious. If you have depression then there are some major ramifications to take into account. I believe there may be some genetic predisposition or there has been some childhood issue, related to anger, that needs urgent attention. You must go and meet with a counselor immediately and if that person advises that you meet with a doctor you must do so and cooperate to your utmost. Please visit these professionals along with your parents. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

I am 26 years old. I dont know why I cannot adjust properly at some places. Many times it has happened that people say that I need to consult a psychiatrist. They say that I am disturbed. But there are many who have never told me these things. Consulting a psychologist costs much and I don't want to take unnecessary medicines.

Forgetting Things - Keep Your Mind Sharp With These Tips

Forgetting Things - Keep Your Mind Sharp With These Tips

Memory lapses aren’t exclusive to old-age which is why it is necessary to keep your mind sharp across all ages. The cognitive skill, memory, can be affected by various factors such as lack of sleep, hypertension, substance abuse etc. Here are a few tips which will help you keep your mind sharp:

  1. Take Frequent Breaks: If you work for long hours at a stretch without taking a break, you run a risk of putting excessive strain on your brain which slows down its reflexes. Giving the brain a break once a while is a good idea and during a “brain break”, you could engage in mentally stimulating activities such as playing Sudoku or puzzles.

  2. Repeat To Learn Better: If you want to remember a crucial piece of information, it is advisable that you repeat that particular piece of information more than twice for a more comprehensive understanding. This tip would be even more effective if you read out aloud the information which needs to be remembered for uninterrupted concentration and comprehension.

  3. Learn To Play An Instrument: Learn to play a musical instrument and regularly practice it as music stimulates the cells in your brain. Studies have shown a strong connection between relaxing forms of music such as instrumental or Celtic music and the motor areas of the brain which are linked to the learning and cognitive spaces. This happens because music triggers the “feel good” neurotransmitter in your brain.

  4. Dietary Changes: Incorporate more nutritious items to your diet such as fresh fruits and vegetables as they are rich in fibre and vitamins which keep the brain and body healthy. Adding fish oil or fatty fishes such as salmon and trout is a must because they are rich in Omega-3 acids which help your brain retain information for a longer period.

Over-indulging in junk food can cause your brain to slow down while extreme crash-diets can cause lethargy in the cognitive areas of your brain. Hence, you should aim to balance your meals. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Breaking up is not easy, especially if the relationship lasted for a long time. But you will need to accept the reality and move on. This fixation on her must die out eventually. You must first exorcise her out of your mind. You can either do that by talking her out of your emotions first to a counselor and then starting on a new relationship by completely walking away from the past. You must express your bitterness and all the fond memories with the intention of purging her out the system. The professional will expertly guide you through the motion of exhaustively clearing away all memories along with the emotions so that you will be free of the ghosts of the past and are able to venture into new relationships. Once you have done that the memories will gradually fade away but the huge advantage you will have is that the emotions attached to those memories will be minus the energy of the feelings and they will become impotent. In the meantime I hope you have cleared your belongings and surroundings of all memories of this person; and also that you do not haunt the places and situations you used to visit. If she has ditched you, you must learn to forgive her for your own sake and live a life free of her eventually in the mind and then in the heart. She is now history, and has probably happily moved on. You need to be thankful that you were not betrothed to her when she dumped you: that would have been worse. And you need to learn not to give yourself to someone so much if the time was not ripe or suitable to do so. Now you should pitch yourself into a new relationship but do not focus too much into the serious end of the outcome but on the moment-to-moment development to see how it all unfolds to really enjoy that person. If you continue to cling on to her memories even after that, you may have some attachment problems too to explore with the counselor. To get out of the depression you must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, and wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, eat more of proteins and vegetables, attend yoga classes etc. Watch a lot of sitcoms on tv or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scotching heat. I hope you can find someone to love and be loved soon. Whatever happens please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three things, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in god to alleviate your sufferings. If you are still not relieved from the depression, then go first to a counselor.
