Causes, Symptoms and Treatment for Kidney Stones and Renal Calculi

Hello everyone I'm Dr. Pallavi Mehta. I'm a homeopathic physician practicing in Mulund area since the last 5 and half years now. In my practice. I come across many cases which are succesfully treated with homeopathy. One of the cases in which I've seen very good results is kidney stones or renal calculi. Renal calculi is basically hard deposits of urine which are majorly composed of minerals and acid salts. The most common form of kidney stones is calcium oxalate stone. However, calcium phosphate, stru white and uric acid stones are also seen very commonly. There are other varieties as well.

The primary symptom which is faced by the people with urinal calculi is pain in the upper back region which radiates in the front. This is also called renal colic. There are other symptoms as well like nausea, vomiting or difficulty in passing urine, difficulty in passing frequent and small parts of urine and tehre might be some blood in urine etc. The commonest cause of having renal calculi or kidney stone is having a concentrated urine. Basically this happens because of insufficient drinking of water. However at this point i would also like to mention one thing that consuming enough calcium from natural food sources does not usually effect the formation of renal calculi but at the same time consumption of high oxalates can definitely cause renal calculi. The richest source of oxalate is spinach, beet, nuts, potato chips etc.

Uric acid stones are commonly found in people having gout and they can also be seen in people who are undergoing chemotherapy. Easiest way to diagnose kidney stones is by doing an X-ray or an ultrasound. A routine examination of the urine can also help us identify the kind of stone we have. Treatment of the kidney stones needs a Holistic approach, proper diet and proper intake of water is as important as taking proper medication. With homeopathic treatment we can also prevent the complications which can happen due to kidney stones and also prevent the recurrences which are commonly seen in stones.

In my experience I've come across and also treated a teenage female who used to have renal calculi since the age of 10yrs. She had also undergone two operations for the same situation and when she came to me she was also having a condition known as hydronefrosis which is basically a situation where in the stone gets implanted in the ureter leading to accumulation of urine in kidneys and swelling of the bladder ultimately. Within 6 months of the treatment, not only the stone was dissolved, the hydro nefrosis was reduced, it was almost gone and now it's been 3yrs that she has been out of treatment and she has not had even one problem related to urine and no stones at all.

In another case in a female of 70yrs old, she used to have frequent renal calculi and frequent urinary infections since almost as high as 20yrs. She used to have infections as frequently as twice every month. But within a month of starting the treatment, the urine culture report started dropping drastically which indiactes the number of bacteria in the urine, and it has been one and a half years since she has started the treatment in October 2015 and she has not had calculi at all and had only once urinal tract infection that too beacuse of some travelling issues and her personal issues of drinking insufficient water. Basically such are the good results we get in homeopathic treatment for conditions as important as renal calculi. Many people tend to rush to the urologist for such conditions and they tend to ignore alternate therapy.

I would really like to recommend that you can also consider alternate therapy like homeopathy for such conditions. For more information you can definitely contact me at librate.com. Thank you.

Kidney Angiomyolipoma - How To Deal With It?

Mbbs, MD - General Medicine, DM - Nephrology
Nephrologist, Ahmedabad
Kidney Angiomyolipoma - How To Deal With It?

Kidney Angiomyolipoma is also known as AML of the kidney, renal angiomyolipoma or kidney AML. This is a benign tumor that can lead to hemorrhagic complications. A tumour can crop up in the medulla or the cortex of the kidney. A small proportion of this condition can happen in conjunction with tuberous sclerosis. The symptoms vary according to the size of a tumour. The treatment differs from case to case, for some patients, radical nephrectomy may work while for some, invasive wedge resection and partial nephrectomy may work better. The prognosis of this condition is excellent owing to its benign nature.

How is kidney angiomyolipoma medically dealt with?
The treatment option depends on the criticality of a tumour and the general health of the patient. A vast majority of the tumors that are asymptomatic in nature doesn’t require a surgical intervention. After the diagnosis is made, a doctor might want to take the wait and watch approach. If the tumor size is small, only medications can cure the condition. On the other hand, surgical intervention can cure the disease and limit any chances of recurrence. Some of the preferred surgical methods include complete or partial nephrectomy, endoscopic surgery, nephron-sparing surgery and tumor embolization. A nephrectomy is only considered when the tumor size is quite large. In case the kidney function is severely impaired, dialysis is necessary. If the tumor results in abdominal bleeding, emergency surgery should be considered.

Healthy lifestyle changes:
If a person has been diagnosed with kidney angiomyolipoma, it is important to follow a healthy lifestyle. Refraining from salt, potassium is a must. A stressed kidney, in general, is better off without foods such as potato, salt, fast food, processed food, various kind of meat etc. The dietary restriction gets waived off by the doctor once the patient is cured. Lifting heavy weight is a strict no in these circumstances. Adequate rest and enough hydration are necessary to be in shape. Timely consumption of medicine is equally important to get cured.

How can this disease be prevented?
Medical research has not fetched any result over the possible prevention method of renal AML. This condition is often connected with a genetic disorder. The following prevention method is necessary to mitigate the risk of this disease.

  • A genetic test of the expecting parents or molecular testing of the fetus can help a doctor understand whether there is a risk involving the baby.
  • If the disease runs in the family, a genetic counselling can help parents to understand to assess the risk before planning a child.
  • Frequent medical checkups are also necessary for a person who has a family history of this disease.
  • Aggressive medical research is being done to get a possible cure for this problem. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Nephrologist.

Hi, I am a vegetarian and want a good diet plan to reduce weight. I am overweight and doing home exercise.

B.Sc. - Dietitics / Nutrition, Nutrition Certification,Registered Dietitian
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Delhi
Hi, I am a vegetarian and want a good diet plan to reduce weight. I am overweight and doing home exercise.
Don’t worry. You can lose weight easily if you are patient and determined to shed those extra kilos. You just have to alter your daily routine, watch what you eat and be physically active. This requires you to be on your weight loss commitment for quiet long. As soon as you start seeing the results, you will be surprised as well as motivated to go beyond your weight loss and adopt and a lifelong healthy attitude. For a start please follow: 1.Watch what you eat – Are you eating too much junk, drink excessive alcohol and eating too much white food and sugar? Please cut it down to as low as you can from tomorrow. Cut down tea/coffee if you are too addicted to it. It is creating havoc inside your body. 2.Lifestyle – Are you a late sleeper and late riser? You can’t imagine what this schedule of yours is doing to your metabolism. It is degrading your digestive system from inside and your looks from outside. 3.Physically active – If you are a couch potato who loves to watch tv whole day then throw that couch of yours in the street and get yourself a treadmill tomorrow. Yes it is as simple as that. Who is stopping you? You have to be physically active all day long if you want to burn those extra calories. Do daily brisk walk, Pranayam, atleast 20 surayanamaskar everyday to start seeing the results. Take break between office work to walk a little or rather just climb some stairs to get that food you ate in lunch have space and heat to digest and absorb. What’s the harm in using your washroom to do a little middle of the day squats. Do that – No one is watching you. The key is to stay physically active all day long, no matter what. 4.Eat healthy and eat on time: Not only eating healthy is important but eating at right time is equally imp too. Have an early breakfast and early dinner and have 4 small meals between breakfast and dinner. To guide you a bit, here you go: a.Breakfast (Between 8-10 a.m) – Have oats/porridge or brown bread with milk and nuts. B.At 11 a.m - Cup of Green Tea c.Mid day meal (around 12 p.m) – Have a bowl of fruits. Citrus fruits are best taken during this hour and absorb well in the body. Have oranges, amla, pineapple etc during this hour. D.Lunch (between 2-3 p.m) – Daal, roti, mix veg, buttermilk and salad. You can also take brown rice with daal in lunch. Try to get your food cooked in olive oil. Lace your salad with apple cider vinegar, black pepper and seeds like flaxseeds or chia seeds to make it nutrition packed lunch. E.Between 4 p.m – 5 p.m – Cup of Green Tea f.Evening (4-6 p.m) – Have some nice sprouts with tomatoes and cucumber. G.Dinner (2 hours before sleeping, preferably before 9 p.m) – Paneer & veggies salad with olive oil, Roti or brown rice with Daal. H.Have a glass of warm milk. Weight loss is 80% about what you eat and 20% about exercises. That said, both the things go hand in hand. If you want to lose weight in a more healthy way than be patient and just follow the regimen everyday. Slow and steady wins the race.

If there is need to add sugar in green tea and how much quantity take a cup in day.

If there is need to add sugar in green tea and how much quantity take a cup in day.
Hi lybrate-user, it is important to know why are you consuming green tea. Though I do not recommend my patients to drink it, you can have it if you want. Do not have it first thing in morning. The first thing which you should do right after getting up in morning is eat a healthy and wholesome breakfast (no lemon water, green or purple tea plz). This is because our bodies are at 8-9 hours of fasting when we get up, it needs real food to start up its metabolism (fat burning is also a metabolic reaction, which can't be accomplished without food). Eat poha/dosa/idli/paratha/upma/chila or anything you like to eat. You can go and exercise after that. Walk is no exercise if you want to reduce weight. Please run/dance/swim/cycle or anything you enjoy. Bear it in mind that it should be a bit challenging to your body. Start slow and be persistent. Feel free to add honey or sugar (half tea spoon) if you are having green tea. I would be happy to help you. Please consult me privately so that I can understand your problem in detail and device a diet plan for you. You can book a private in-person/text/audio/video appointment for further discussion and personalized advice.

Don't forego the H2O!

MBBS
General Physician, Trivandrum
Don't forego the H2O!
Weather is making an about turn, hydration will soon be a necessity. When it comes to hydration, think both quality and quantity. Choose clear water or natural fruit juices. Aerated and artificial sweetened drinks are a complete no. Keeping your body hydrated is the best way to detoxify your system and make sure you cleanse waste from the body. Think of your mouth as the inlet pipe of a cleaning system and the urine as an outlet of the waste system. You put in clean water, it cleanses the impurities out of your body and comes out along with the waste extracted from your body.

Drink around 8 to 10 glasses of water per day especially in the dry summer season. Keep a bottle of clean water with you at work or study. Fruit juices will also provide you with the best vitamins and extra minerals to keep your health and body in good shape. Drinking enough fluids protects you from many health problems including colds, urinary stones and urinary infections.

An easy way to add more health - squeeze in a bit of fresh lemon which is very rich in Vitamin C. The result of this simple yet important habit? You get clear skin, better immunity, more stamina and good bowels, for sure.
