My child is normally very friendly but has been getting very aggressive of late. He bites, at times hits & throws things on the floor. We have recently appointed a nanny & he mostly seems happy with her but gets extremely agitated at times throwing tantrums. He also teething & I am trying to wean him to bottle. Even though we have been taking it as the normal adjustment period but I would request a confirmation in the case. And tips on how to handle the situation.

This is known as temper tantrums. Don't tolerate. Never beat child. Divert attention. As age advancing they will forget. Don't boast or taking a proud of it when you are sharing his attitude. This is emotional black mailing.

The Growing Child: 1 to 3 Months

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health
Pediatrician, Hyderabad
The Growing Child: 1 to 3 Months

The Growing Child: 1 to 3 Months

How much will my baby grow?

While all babies may grow at a different rate, the following indicates the average for boys and girls 1 to 3 months of age:

  • Weight: average gain of about 1½ to 2 pounds each month

  • Height: average growth of over 1 inch each month

  • Head size: average growth of about ½ inch each month

What can my baby do at this age?

Close up of mother smiling and looking down at a baby sleeping in her arms

As your baby begins to grow, you will notice new and exciting abilities that develop. Babies at this age begin to relax the tight muscle tone of newborns and begin extending their arms and legs more. While babies may progress at different rates, the following are some of the common milestones your baby may reach in this age group:

  • Some of the newborn protective reflexes begin to disappear

  • Neck muscles become stronger, head bobs then is held erect

  • Turns head from side to side when placed on belly

  • Brings hands or objects to mouth

  • Looks at hands

  • Follows light, faces, objects

  • Listens to sounds

  • Opens and closes hands

  • Holds, then drops a rattle or other object

  • Active leg movements

  • At the end of 3 months:

    • Raises head and chest when placed on belly

    • Beginning to reach hands to objects, may bat at hanging object with hands

What can my baby say?

It is very exciting for parents to watch their babies become social beings that can interact with others. While every baby develops speech at his or her own rate, the following are some of the common milestones in this age group:

  • Begins to imitate some sounds (coos, vowel sounds)

  • Cries become more purposeful and are different for hunger, fatigue, and other needs

What does my baby understand?

A baby's understanding and awareness of the world around him or her increases during this time. While babies may progress at different rates, the following are some of the common milestones in this age group:

  • Knows familiar voices, especially of mother and father

  • Smiles in response to others

  • Responds to social contact, may coo

  • Moves arms, legs, body in rhythm with other's voice

How to help increase your baby's development and emotional security

Young babies need the security of a parent's arms, and they understand the reassurance and comfort of your voice, tone, and emotions. Consider the following as ways to foster emotional security of your newborn:

  • Hold your baby face to face and make eye contact.

  • Talk to your baby with a soothing, animated voice throughout the day while dressing, bathing, feeding, or playing with your baby.

  • Sing to your baby.

  • Give your baby rattles and soft toys with different sounds.

  • Let your baby hear different sounds (for example, wind chime, ticking clock, soft music, or music box).

  • Show your baby bright pictures of black and white images.

  • Hang a mobile with bright objects above your baby.

  • Call your baby by name.

  • Hold your baby during feedings and provide comfort when he or she is distressed and cuddling when happy.

I have a baby boy he is 18 months old.my problem is that he dnt like milk at all. He is not drinking milk not even a cup in a day.plzz suggest me any idea to improve interest for milk

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), Pediatric Gastroenterology
Pediatrician, Delhi
It is not absolutely necessary for a one and half year old to have milk as such. you can give milk as kheer, dahi, or in dalia etc. you could also use home made paneer. Use the whey water in dal, sabzis or preparing dough. Sometimes children go off a particular food. You can give a short break and try to reintroduce that food/milk after some time.

No need to give any medicines and all mothers mistake possetting for vomiting and it is because the ges is not strong in infants and will stoop over 6 months or by one year. You keep monitoring weight.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
HIs weight is NOT seriously low. you have to check his TSH to see if ther is hypothyroidism as the cause of poor eating. Or else it is the food fas or refusal shown by many children. You make sure his blood HB and TSH is normal

My son studying in 6 standard, every day he studies for 2-3 hours, but he cannot remember nor able to write correctly what he had studied yesterday. Kindly suggest the solution how to maintain the memory what he had studied. Also their is regularly etching on his dody, he is 10 years old because of that lot of etching mark on his hands.

MD Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Hyderabad
This is a common problem in children of this age group, often parents complain of such things with their children, there is no connection of skin and memory, as far as etching of skin is there, there might be some allergen which is causing it or sometimes dry skin may be cause of etching marks. Use a good moisturiser to whole body before sleep, ask him to drink plenty of fluids/water. Still problem persists consult a dermatologist, as far as memory is concerned nothing to worry, each and every individual has different iq levels and different grasping and retaining abilities. Just have patience as the children grow they will develop their skills.

Bedwetting - Can Homeopathy Help in Curing it?

Children may run around having fun and growing in the process. Some children may be more active than the others and some may be more attentive at school. All children go through some sort of trouble while growing up. This is because of the drastic changes that the bodies of little children constantly go through. One such problem commonly faced by the children is bedwetting. This problem may be a common one, but it should be brought under control as soon as possible so that the children do not have to face social embarrassment as they grow older. Learn more to improve child's immunity system.

Apart from providing a healthy and happy living to the children, it may be essential to find a way of treatment that may not leave the child affected by the harmful ingredients of the regular allopathic medication. One of the safest and the most effective ways to be able to treat bedwetting is homeopathy. Homeopathy is a branch of medicine and treatment that works on the body of the user with the most natural ways. The medicines in homeopathy are made using basic ingredients from plants and other organic materials.

Homeopathy for children:
The use of homeopathy for problems that affect the children in particular is essential because of the fact that they have growing systems and the growth may get adversely affect with the strong and highly potent allopathic drugs. It is also important to understand the nuances of controlling the bedwetting issue in children and also know what the causes of the problem may be:

  1. When the children are highly fatigued, they may wet the bed due to the deep sleep that they may be experiencing after a tiring time.
  2. In times of winter when the cold is uncontrollable or much more than usual, it may be natural for some children to not be able to control their bladder.
  3. In a lot of cases, the children may also wet the bed when they have had a scary or traumatic experience.

Just as the causes of the problem are varied, it must be realized that the medications are also supposed to be administered according to the issue.

Homepathic medication for betwetting
Homeopathy is a stream of medicine that treats the body in the most delicate manner, which is why it is a safe alternative for children. However, it must also be ensured that proper medical intervention is attained to start a course of homeopathic medication as well, so that bedwetting may be treated within a desired amount of time and the child may feel free from the embarrassment of wetting the bed. Why homeopathy is best for children?

It is possible that baby may have a retractile testis which you could not feel. This condition may improve with the growing age or by manipulating practice. Other reason may be undescended testis which may create problem. Before going for U/S abdomen which may reveal undescended testis, consult pediatrician.
