Hello, If pregnancy is ruled out then the delay is stress induced and you can wait for at least 2 weeks to allow menses to start naturally and then can opt for a progesterone withdrawal.

Premature Menopause - How Your Body Is Affected?

MBBS, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology

Premature Menopause - How Your Body Is Affected?

During the natural course of events, a woman's body starts its reproductive phase with menarche and at about 50 years of age, attains menopause. This is when the reproductive function ceases and the ovaries stop producing the hormone estrogen and progesterone. This is medically termed early or premature menopause.

Menopause that occurs before 40 years of age is termed as Premature Menopause; it is due to primary ovarian insufficiency and occurs in 1% of the women.  If it occurs between 45 to 50 years, it is termed as early menopause.

Causes of premature menopause: Normal ageing, family history, genetic disorders, autoimmune disorders, toxins, and surgery are some reasons that could lead to premature menopause.

Effects: Estrogen and progesterone have a lot of beneficial effects on a woman's body. Reduction in their levels leads to some of the below changes:

  • Emotional changes like mood swings, irritability, and in some cases depression, especially in premature menopause.
  • Irregular cycles before complete cessation of the menstrual cycles.
  • General mucosal dryness leading to vaginal dryness, dry skin, dry eyes.
  • There also would be urinary incontinence and reduced sex drive due to reduced hormone levels.
  • For women who still would want to have children, infertility would be a big cause for concern. This could lead to other emotional issues, worsening the depression.
  • Bones lose their density and get weak and are more prone to fracture. This leads to Osteoporosis.
  • Postmenopause, women are more prone to heart attacks and stroke, leading to cardiovascular health issues. Though not fully proven, this is believed to be true as the good role that estrogen plays on blood vessels is negated with menopause.
  • Menopause leads to accelerated damage of genetic structures, thereby leading to faster ageing. This also leaves a feeling in the women of being less attractive and less desirable.

There is also a good news, that after menopause women are at lesser risk of cancer especially, breast and ovarian.

However, it is not easy for women to handle premature menopause. The body undergoes some changes much earlier than expected, and it requires a lot of support and caring and comforting to come to terms with it especially, if associated with infertility or chemotherapy for cancer. Emotional issues of not being able to have children and feeling less attractive require frank talks to boost the person's confidence and increase self-worthiness.

It is easier said than done, but one of the key ways to handle premature menopause is an open discussion.

Why Men Die Younger Than Women

Why Men Die Younger Than Women

Dr. Sharmila majumdarsexologist

Men are known to be alexthymics where they prefer bottling up their feelings and not seeking family or social help.

Sex differences in mortality and admissions to hospital emergency departments have been well documented. These studies confirm that males are more at risk than females. Males are more likely to be admitted to an emergency department after accidental injuries, more likely to be admitted with a sporting injury, and more likely to be in a road traffic collision with a higher mortality rate.

Some of these differences may be attributable to cultural and socioeconomic factors: males may be more likely to engage in contact and high risk sports, and males may be more likely to be employed in higher risk occupations. However, sex differences in risk seeking behaviour have been reported from an early age, raising questions about the extent to which these behaviours can be attributed purely to social and cultural differences. However, there is a class of risk the idiotic risk that is qualitatively different from those associated with, say, contact sports or adventure pursuits such as parachuting. Idiotic risks are defined as senseless risks, where the apparent payoff is negligible or non-existent, and the outcome is often extremely negative and often final.

Men and help seeking behaviors - there is a growing body of research to suggest that men are less likely than women to seek help from health professionals for problems as diverse as depression, substance abuse, physical disabilities and stressful life events. The investigation of men's health-related help seeking behaviour has great potential for improving both men and women's lives and reducing national health costs through the development of responsive and effective interventions.

Studies comparing men and women are inadequate in explaining the processes involved in men's help seeking behaviour. However, the growing body of gender-specific studies highlights a trend of delayed help seeking when they become ill. A prominent theme among middle class men implicates traditional masculine behaviour as an explanation for delays in seeking help among men who experience illness. The reasons and processes behind this issue, however, have received limited attention. Conclusions. Principally, the role of masculine beliefs and the similarities and differences between men of differing background requires further attention, particularly given the health inequalities that exist between men of differing socio-economic status and ethnicity.

Gender differences in social behavior what are the causes of sex differences and similarities in behavior? some causes can be traced to human evolutionary history, especially the ways that the division of labor is influenced by biology and environments. A human universal--in all known societies--is a division of tasks so that men do some things in society and women do others. The specific activities in a society depend on what tasks can be performed most efficiently by each sex, given men's greater size, strength, and speed and women's bearing and nursing children. The division of labor structures psychological sex differences and similarities. By observing the activities of women and men in their society, people form gender role beliefs. For example, given that women perform more childcare than men in most industrialized societies, women are believed to be especially nurturant and caring. Given that men are more likely than women to hold higher status jobs in industrialized societies, men are believed to be especially dominant and assertive. Gender roles then influence behavior through social and biological processes. In social interaction, people respond more favorably to others who conform to gender role. Women and men also might incorporate gender roles into their own personal identities

Additionally, hormonal processes support role performance (e. G, testosterone increases in women and men before athletic competitions; through the research below, we have shown how social roles account for sex differences in group emotional experience and group performance recent research, we explain how women's roles influence menstrual cycles in society along with women's mate preferences. Further more the hormone estrogen protects the women's heart and adds longevity to their lives.

She maybe a prostitute and even if I have sex with her without safety, there is no risk of any kind of thing like AIDS or HIV right.

MBBS, D.P.H
General Physician, Gurgaon
Mr. lybrate-user you should not be under impression that HIV transmission will not happen with unprotected sex it is 99.9% chances of HIV infection and sexually transmitted disease with unprotected sex if done with HIV positive partner by any route anal, oral, vaginal, homosexual heterosexual, even protected sex with condom is also possible if condom tears or some contact of vaginal fluid with precum. So it is my sincere advice for you that for sexual pleasure of short time do not ruin your whole life because aids symptoms appear after 8 to 10 years of exposure and antibody detected in blood after 90 days. When CD 4 count comes below 500 symptoms of AIDS appears and body immunity is decreases and expose you a no. Of opportunist infection which further deteriorate your health and you have to take art for whole life with no. Of complication even infection will be transmitted to your kids if married your age is 22 years which is for gaining education, good job, happy married life, excellent social life. There are certain country which even do not allow visa for study and tour, means your future will be dark and you will start loosing your immunity by the age of 30-32 years so decide what you want to do.

I am pregnant. Initial days only. I just want to know which medicines can I take for the abortion and please direct me with the dosage also. Thanks.

DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology), DGO, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Hyderabad
Hi you can do abortion. First of all you do one usg scan for early pregnancy to see the location of pregnancy, weather its intra uterine or extra uterine. If its shows that its intra uterine pregnancy than you have to take mtp kit. Its total 5 tablets course 1+4, after that you will experienced bleeding which will continue for 7-10 days. In 95% case mtp kit is successful and you will abort completely. After 10 days you have to do repeat usg pelvis to see weather you had aborted completely or not. This is the solution for your conern thanks.

Hi lybrate-user. There are lot of causes fir delayed periods. If you are sexually active get the urine pregnancy test again. If not or you are not sexually active then wait for one more week. Stress is the most common factor causing it. Second is pcod which is a lifestyle disorder. You need to take medication for withdrawal bleeding and consult your doctor for further information.

There are several medicines to control bleeding, but before that go for a gynecology checkup and pelvis ultrasound. Your doctor will prescribe medicines to stop bleeding after ensuring that there isn't anything more serious.

Health benefits of Cashew

Cashew nuts or cajus as we know them in India are widely loved and used in almost every course of food, from starters and snacks to the main course to dessert. Apart from being a delectable food, it also has numerous health benefits. Few of them are:

1. When compared to other nuts, they contain low fat content which is in the form of oleic acid. Oleic acid is good for the heart. Cashews also happen to be free of cholesterol and have anti-oxidants which help keep the heart healthy.

2. Magnesium present in the cashews helps them to prevent the rise in blood pressure.

3. One major benefit of cashew nuts is that they help fight cancer. They have high copper content and also have flavonoids called proanthocyanidins which help fight cancer cells in colon cancer.

4. The copper in cashews helps in maintaining the right color of the hair.

5. Cashews have magnesium and calcium, both of which are important for bone health.

6. The magnesium in cashews ensures that there is enough magnesium on the bones' surface and calcium cannot enter the nerve cells, thus ensuring healthy nerves.

7. Cashews have selenium, magnesium, and copper which all act as antioxidants.

8. They help in growth, digestion, and development of the body.

9. Despite being considered fatty, cashews have good cholesterol. Despite popular belief, it is good to eat cashew at least once or twice a week.

10. The risk of developing gallstones reduces by one-fourth, with a daily intake of cashew nuts.
