Upto 101 temp you may go with only cold water sponging on head and chest region to control temprature is better and harmless option to reduce temprature. Avoid heavy food. Take only mung dal soup, chicken or mutton soup, daal -rice, or khichadi only as diet which can be added ginger in it. Unsafe use of paracetamol and antibiotics harmful for liver and other organs of body.

When having sex with my girlfriend, the tip of my foreskin (penis, I am uncut) keeps tearing. There is a few drops of blood and it is a little painful. Small scabs appear and the skin (scar tissue) has got quite tight. I'm not in a lot of pain, but the scabs look a little offputting.

Dear Lybrate user. Phimosis is a congenital narrowing of the opening of the foreskin so that it cannot be retracted. Phimosis is a very common problem. In most of the cases you can clear the problem yourself. Phimosis could cause moderate to severe pain while having vaginal intercourse. Apply oil on your foreskin and on the glans. Move the foreskin forward and back slowly without hurting you much. Because the oil is lubricant, it will be easier than without oil. Do this forward and back movement 20 times several times in a day. Repeat the same every day for around one month. You will get the elasticity and you will be able to retract the foreskin completely. In case if there is no result from the above massage, you can always go for a minor surgical procedure called circumcision. Take care.

I am suffering of pneumothorax, it occur 3 time in 2 year, but by CT scan it is due to bullea in left lower lobe.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Strategies for the prevention of recurrent pneumothorax include observation, surgical and nonsurgical pleurodesis, and bleb resection. Other important points to keep in mind include the following: prompt recognition and treatment of bronchopulmonary infections decreases the risk of progression to a pneumothorax. When subclavian vein cannulation is required, use the supraclavicular approach rather than the infraclavicular approach when possible to help decrease the likelihood of pneumothorax formation. The incidence of iatrogenic tension pneumothorax may be decreased with prophylactic insertion of a chest tube in patients with a simple pneumothorax that requires positive pressure ventilation. Pleurodesis decreases the risk of recurrence of spontaneous pneumothorax, as does thoracotomy or video-assisted thoracoscopy (vat) to excise the bullae.

White patches on your skin are a common type of depigmented skin lesion associated with an infection, allergy, or autoimmune disorder. One common cause of white spots, or hypopigmentation, is a fungal infection of the skin known as tinea versicolor (associated with other symptoms, such as itching or dryness on or around the white patches). This fungal infection is not contagious and can be treated easily with over-the-counter medications. Please tell me other symptoms like about sensation on the area, since how long do you have this patch, any family history of white patch, etc. Do send me a clear photo of the affected area.

7 Tips to Avoid Sexually Transmitted Diseases

BHMS, MD - Acupuncture
Sexologist, Faridabad
7 Tips to Avoid Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Certain diseases are a major cause of concern as often these diseases can cause severe health complications. Various campaigns and awareness have been spread both by the government and NGOs for practicing safe sex to fight against these sexually transmitted diseases.

Here are a few tips on how to avoid contracting sexually transmitted diseases:

  1. Selective Abstinence: Selective abstinence is when people indulge in certain sexual activities, but limit in what they do to avoid the chances of contracting sexually transmitted diseases. People who do practice selective abstinence run a lower risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases, which is also dependent on the type of sexual activity they indulge in as certain sexual acts have a higher chance of spreading STDs than others.
  2. Using condoms: Using latex condoms decreases the chances of contracting sexually transmitted diseases. If you use lubricants, make sure that they are water based. Condoms are however not 100% effective at preventing sexually transmitted diseases, but reduce the chance of infection to a great extent. It is highly advised to learn how to properly use condoms.
  3. Mutual monogamy: Another way to avoid getting infected by STDs is to practice mutual monogamy. If you and your partner do not have sex with anyone else, then it greatly reduces the chances of getting infected with sexually transmitted diseases.
  4. Getting tested: Getting tested for sexually transmitted diseases as well as asking your partner to do so decreases the chances of transmitting sexually transmitted diseases. Refrain from having sex if either of you test positive.
  5. Avoid alcohol and recreational drugs: Avoiding the usage of recreational drugs and alcohol reduces the chances of contracting STDs. Indulging in sexual activities while being highly intoxicated can both cause you to forget practicing safe sex.
  6. Practicing healthy habits: Practicing certain healthy habits also reduces the chances of contracting sexually transmitted diseases. These include avoiding sharing towels and undergarments, washing before and after sexual intercourse and getting a vaccination for hepatitis B.
  7. Low risk and high risk activities: Certain sexual activities such as open mouth kissing and hand to genital contact have a lower risk of infection. Other activities such as oral sex, vaginal intercourse, and genital to genital contact have a higher chance of infection. Understanding the risks better would allow you to avoid contacting diseases easily.

I am suffering from migraine procedure for the last two years and I have headache. Can you suggest what should be done?

MBBS, Master In Health Science
Neurologist, Mumbai
First the diagnosis of migraine needs to be confirmed, other serious causes for a headache need to be ruled out. If it is really migraine - Lifestyle changes can be very effective in migraine. Some people do need prophylactic medications to prevent migraine. Prevention e.g. 8 hrs of sleep, avoiding hunger, avoiding stress, keeping a diary and avoiding triggers is better than medications.
