I am 21 years old and have suffering for hair falling from 6 months. What should I do.?

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Is your hair loss accompanied with greying of hair and have they become very thin? your hair needs a very high protein well-rounded diet. Hair and nails are the last organs to get nutrition in the body, hence only if all the organs get sufficient nutrition and proteins, only then the remaining nutrition would be used for hairs. A strand of hair is composed of mostly protein, which means your hair needs protein to grow. Hence a therapeutic diet prescribed by a registered dietitian can help a lot in hair growth. Besides diet excessive stress, current/past dandruff and some medication are conclusively known to retard hair growth and promote hair loss. - cut down on the use of hair spray, hair gels, and styling creams that contain harsh chemical ingredients, which can dry out the scalp and cause the formation of flakes. Also harsh treatments such as perms, colours, relaxers etc take a toll on the health of your hair. - avoid changing your shampoo and conditioner constantly. Stick to one good mild cleansing shampoo for six months before changing. - excessive exposure to the sun, pollution, rain water and dust without proper protection makes the hair dry, brittle and limp. Use a live in conditioner during the rains to protect it from the humidity and wash and oil it regularly to maintain a healthy scalp. I may also prescribe medications like biotin or minox. That are proven to help in hair growth and repair.

World Red Cross Day - Why Donating Blood Is Good For Health?

General Physician, Jammu
World Red Cross Day - Why Donating Blood Is Good For Health?

There are many health benefits of donating blood which include good health, reducing the risk of cancer along with hemochromatosis. Moreover, blood donation is good for the normal functioning of pancreas and liver. With the blood donation, an individual can improve the cardiovascular health as well as reduce the risk of obesity.

Every day blood transfusions take place saving millions of life on earth. And the best part is that blood donation is good for the donor. It is crucial for the blood donation to take place in a medical facility under the supervision of experts. The donors must ensure that they are in optimum health conditions for avoiding any health issues after the transfusion is completed.

Benefits of donating blood:
There are numerous benefits of blood donation, and some of them include-

  1. Hemochromatosis: The health benefits of blood donation reduce the risk of developing hemochromatosis. It is a disorder which arises owing to excessive absorption of iron in the human body. This condition can be inherited through the genes or may also be triggered by uncontrolled alcoholism, chronic anaemia and other health problems. One should take part in blood donation on a regular basis for the reduction of iron overload.
  2. Anti cancer health benefits: Donating blood at regular intervals can also lower the risk of cancer. After donating blood, the iron stored in the body is maintained at healthy levels. The reduction in the iron concentrations in the body is also connected with reduced risk of cancer and thus helps keep cancer at bay.
  3. Good for liver and heart: Blood donation is useful for reducing the risk of heart and liver disorders which are triggered by the iron overload in the body. Only a limited amount of iron can be absorbed by the body, and the rest starts accumulating in the heart, pancreas and lungs. This can pave the way for liver failure and cirrhosis, damage to the pancreas and complications in the heart such as irregular heart rhythms. The blood donation helps in maintaining the optimum iron levels as well as reduces the risk of different ailments.
  4. Helps in weight loss: Regular blood donation also helps in weight of the donors. This is great for those who are overweight and obese. It is advantageous for those who are suffering from cardiovascular and other health disorders.
  5. Production of new cells: After the donation of blood, the body starts working for replenishing the loss of blood. This helps in stimulating the production of new blood cells and in turn aids in the maintenance of good health.

It is imperative to note here that to enjoy the benefits of blood donation, an individual has to wait for eight weeks after a session of whole blood donation. Also, it is crucial to wait for 16 weeks in between the power red blood donation. One should always consult with the doctor to be sure that he or she is fit for donating blood and should avoid it while suffering from any disorders or infections.

Dear user. I can understand. Shyness is a blessing on many accounts. You don't need to change your behavior pattern completely and your shy attitude completely. that will be bad. Instead, provide me the situations you want to change your behavior. We can work together and change your shyness in those circumstances. Take care.

Is there any herbal / ayurvedic product, which reduces 'cholesterol' deposits in the heart arteries, which could be taken regularly as" precautionary-measure. Please Advise.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
Hello dear High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. And 1 glass of water before bed at night. use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. Garlic,. Cod liver oil. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

What treatments are available for tinea versicolor and which do you recommend? What side effects can I expect from treatment? How long will it take for my skin to return to normal?

Homeopath, Pune
Treatment for tinea versicolor may include: Medicine applied to the skin: This is the most common treatment. There are anti-fungal shampoos, soaps, creams, and lotions that can keep the yeast under control.  Oral therapy is also effective for tinea versicolor and is often preferred by patients because it is more convenient and less time consuming. Of course, oral therapy can be used in consort with topical regimens.  Oral therapy does not prevent the high rate of recurrence, and treatment with an oral or topical agent may need to be repeated intermittently throughout the year. Because tinea versicolor is a benign condition and oral therapy is not without risk, the decision to treat with an oral agent should be made only after a complete discussion of the risks involved. Treatment of this problem is long. Dietary alterations have not proved successful in the treatment of tinea versicolor. While choosing homeopathic medicines the various factors are evaluated for example, genetic predisposition, poor immune system, summer aggravation and so on. Homeopathy treatment, which gets to the root of the problem will reinforce the immune system and gradually restore the normal skin color and texture. Homeopathy treats the disease from its root ensuring the patient not suffering the similar problem in the future.
