Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

Not to worry, it is just a swollen lymph node. It is very common during hormonal surges to having a swollen lymph node. To relieve pain, try warm compress. However, if the lymph node continues to remain swollen and does not ever subside, see your doctor.

What exactly is a spine block injection? Will it work long trem for low back pain due to disc problems?

Fellow Adult Knee Reconstruction and Sports Injuries, Fellowship in Interventional Pain Practice, MS - Orthopaedics, MBBS
Orthopedist, Gurgaon
It's a combination of medicines deposited over your inflamed nerve. Usually works long if it's a chemical irritation of your nerve, in case it's a mechanical compression then a nerve block injection alone by itself doesn't work long time.

Hi. My bone got fracture and got operation 3 days before what to do & what foods should be taken for better recovery thanks.

PGD IN ULTRAASONOGRAPHY, Non invasive cardiology course, MD - Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Narnaul
Immediately After Surgery Diet After Bone-Fracture Surgery Initially, eat bland foods like crackers and broth. Before your surgery -- if it wasn't an emergency -- you probably weren't permitted to have any food or drink. For a few days after surgery, you may have no appetite. Before your discharge from the hospital, you will be required to consume liquids and possibly a light snack -- such as crackers. Initially, stick with bland foods, such as crackers and broth. Balanced Diet Diet After Bone-Fracture Surgery A balanced diet can help you maintain a healthy body weight weight and your wellness as you recover from bone surgery. The National Academy of Sports Medicine recommends 2,000 calories daily if you're not dieting. If you're attempting to shed excess pounds, get at least 1,200 calories if you're a woman and 1,500 to 1,800 calories if you're a man; eating too few calories can slow your metabolism and the healing process. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and aim to eat a balanced snack or meal every three to four hours for maintained energy. A balanced diet should include a variety of healthy foods, such as lean meats, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products and whole grains. Vitamin D and Calcium Diet After Bone-Fracture Surgery Egg yolks are a good source of vitamin D. Vitamin D can facilitate bone healing, according to Civesta Medical Center. It helps your body absorb calcium, which is necessary for bone growth, healing and development. Without adequate amounts of vitamin D and calcium, your body will take calcium from your bones. This can delay healing. Vitamin D can be found in fish, egg yolks, margarine and fortified milk. Top calcium sources include canned salmon, fortified milk and yogurt, almonds and cooked, dark-green vegetables. Considerations Diet After Bone-Fracture Surgery Be sure to eat enough protein. Get an adequate amount of protein to speed healing of your incision. The amount you need is based on your weight. The National Academy of Sports Medicine suggests multiplying your weight by .36 to determine how much protein you should get daily. For example, if you weigh 130 pounds, you should get 46.8 grams of protein. Talk to your doctor before beginning any vitamin or calcium supplements after bone-fracture surgery. Exercise is also an important part of staying healthy. Although bone-fracture surgery can drastically limit participation in physical activities, talk to your doctor about permissible activities. Depending on the nature of your injury, you may be allowed to engage in low-impact activities or do physical therapy exercises as you heal.

As arthritis is very common that you get generally bilaterally. Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. You can take Ultrasonic therapy in one of the nearby physiotherapy clinics which would help to heal the damaged cartilages along with shortwave diathermy which would help to improve the blood circulation. Simple Knee Exercises Specific knee exercises will also help ie. Keeping ball underneath the knee and keep pressing it. That's the simple exercise which will help you to strengthen the knee. If you unable to walk for more than an hour The reason why you cannot walk more than an hour is because your muscles have become so weak and it becomes tired very easily. To break that fatigue it is advisable to drink or eat protein and mineral food which would be a reservoir for you to stoe the energy. For this condition also we advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. We also suggest people with knee pain to use MCR chappals which would reduce the inflammation of the damaged/inflammed cartilages.
