What is oral contraceptive pills? How to use it? Advantages and disadvantages? Is I pills and OCPills same?

What is oral contraceptive pills? How to use it? Advantages and disadvantages? Is I pills and OCPills same?
Oral contraceptive pills act by interrupting the ovulation (release of the egg), thus creating an anovulatory cycle. It takes at least one ‘pill cycle’ for annovulation to get established. Hence, during the first cycle, one must use an alternative method of contraception. If the woman forgets to take the pill at the usual time and remembers the lapse on the same day, she should take the scheduled pill on the same day, as soon as she remembers it. If the woman forgets to take ‘the pill’ for one day and remembers so only on the next day, she should take two pills on that day i.e. The ‘forgotten pill’ of the previous day, in addition to the scheduled pill for the day. If, however there is a lapse in taking pills for two consecutive days then the woman must consider herself ‘unprotected’ and adopt another method of contraception for the rest of the cycle. If the woman has a history of liver disease, abnormal liver function tests, steroid dependent cancer e.g. Breast cancer, abnormal uterine/vaginal bleeding or evidence of circulatory disease e.g. Thrombo-embolic disorders, hypertension and migraine, oral contraceptive pills are contraindicated. Other contraindications include diabetes, the first six months in the case of nursing mothers and epilepsy. However, a gynaecologist’s opinion should be sought prior to use.

As she is having her periods regularly chances of conception are minimal. But still you should perform a urine pregnancy test to rule it out. Present stomach pain and vomiting appears to be because of some kind of infection ,which can be treated with antibiotics .consult your local physician and take a course of antibiotics and antiemetics under his guidance. All the best.

As long as you are having regular periods there is nothing to worry. If you are overweight exercise may help. I would also advise you to get a complete blood count and hb done.

Endometrial Scratching - Can It Boost Your IVF Success Rate?

Endometrial Scratching - Can It Boost Your IVF Success Rate?

In today’s stressful environment, many couples who are not able to conceive naturally are considering alternate solutions such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment. Trying to get pregnant through IVF treatment is a lengthy and complex process. Other techniques such as endometrial scratching or endometrial biopsy are worth learning about when it comes to such processes which can be radically life changing.

What is endometrial scratching?
As explained in high school biology textbooks, an embryo eventually gets transferred to the womb where it is embedded. Endometrial scratching is an attempt to improve the rate at which the embryos get transferred to the womb of a woman.

This is done by making a small scratch on the uterus which serves to hasten the growth of the new tissue, which is essentially the body’s reaction to the scratch. Proponents of this process believe that this growth of new tissue goes a long way in improving the degree of responsiveness of the womb to the embryo when it comes to accepting it.

How it can help?
While detractors do exist, it is to be kept in mind that there are some great potential benefits of undergoing this procedure and that is, it can possibly improve the efficacy of the IVF treatment. Taking into account the amount of effort and expense that goes into a course of treatment, it does appeal to a lot of women to go for endometrial scratching, and it can be said that it does make sense. When it comes to choosing the ideal time to undergo this procedure, a woman can schedule a slot, a week after ovulation, as this is also likely to be a week before the IVF treatment begins, if a woman plans on having it.

If a woman is interested in the prospect of endometrial scratching, she should talk to a doctor who is a specialist in the field of gynaecology and has a proven track record. The doctor would list out the benefits and risks of the same and be a good judge of whether she is a good candidate for endometrial scratching. For those women who have tried IVF a couple of times previously, but have not been able to conceive may find endometrial scratching beneficial. So, most women who are giving IVF a go for the first time do not have much of a need to sign up for endometrial scratching. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an IVF Specialist.

Hello Sir/ma'am My wife has a problem when we have sex and she take contraceptive pills she bleed after one week. Explain why it happens. Her Weight-51, height-5.7, age-24 years

Contraceptive pills are to be taken daily one at bed time. The pack contains 21 tablets. Start from the fifth day of menses one tablet a day for 21 days, stop for a week, start a new pack from 29 th day.Continue like this any number of months. She has to take one tablet daily whether she had sex or not ,only one tablet in a day even if had sex more times. Probably she is taking a tablet on the day of sex only. That may be the reason of irregular bleeding.

I had a casual contact with a commercial sex worker. Specifics - Fingered vagina, licked that finger once. She gave me a hand job. The finger had a peeled skin near fingernail. It was 25 days ago. Nothing apart from this, and this was the only contact of any sexual nature I have had ever. Now, I had an ulcer near anus last week, a reddish-black one. And now I have an ulcer on lower lip inside mouth. And have upset stomach. However I have had the diarrhea last recurrently even before in last several months. Could it be a symptom of HIV? Do I need to test for HIV? And if so what test. I am terribly worried.

General Physician,
Do not not get worried. It may be some infection of stomach upset, anal hair infection, apthous ulcer of mouth. It need not be associated with sex. Since she is a commercial sex worker ,HIV and STD Blood ELISA test can be done for the benefit of doubt and as a precautionary measure.

Your developing baby is protected by the amniotic fluid in your uterus, as well as the strong muscles of the uterus itself. Sexual activity won't affect your baby. So it is completely safe to sex during pregnancy.
