Hi. Osteoarthritis of knees is very common now a days. There are various treatment options for it depending upon stage of disease. Mainstay of treatment is done precautions. Exercises to strengthen knee joint like cycling, swimming and others. Calcium vitamin D medicines. Some medicines for cartilage repair and maintenance. Depending upon x ray picture patient may be advised injection or surgery.

I am 34 years old. I am having knee ache in both legs. Even after standing for 1 hour I am getting strain in my legs and pain too. In left knee I can hear bone sound too while walking. Please guide.

Try this for joint pains try this. Identify the mid point between the ankle bone and tendons and give pressure with a blunt edge on either side of your foot for 2 minutes. Also give pressure in the web between 2nd and 3rd finger from your toe for 2 minutes. Finally give a good massage for both feet in hot water. Identify the dipping portion on the back of your knee folding. Press this dip with both middle fingers and hold your knee with your thumbs for support. Please swing 20 times morning and evenings. This will relieve your problem. Consult after 10 days.

Hi Thanks for your query and welcome to Lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from Fortis hospital, New Delhi. You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - To maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - If pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - Physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - Adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - Ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - Analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - Avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc We will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Hi I can understand your problem. 1) apply hot and cold foementation. 2) learn strengthening exercise of quadriceps and hamstring from physiotherapist. 3) do regular streching calf muscles. 4) wear comfortable foot wear. Do share investigation reports if you have.

Patient needs to be examined in detail & be investigated. Anyway you may try- sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck back knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. For emergency treatment contact your nearest hospital or family doctor. If it does not give relief in 4-5 days then inform me.

I am suffering severe to mild pain starting from my left hip to lower leg upto foot since 4 months. It is more in early morning after bed time and reduces by time passage in day. Piriformis stretch 1. Lie on your back. 2. Cross your left leg over your right so that your left ankle rests on your right knee. 3. Use your hands to grab hold of your left knee and pull it gently toward the opposite shoulder. 4. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds. 5. Relax, and then repeat with the other leg. 6. Repeat this cycle 2 to 4 times. Back postural correction- sit tall, walk tall. Extension exercises x 15 times x twice daily. Apply hot fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front.

Follow the below exercises meant only for tummy and will help you to loose fat from tummy if you don’t have any other medical condition: 1.The Plank - Lie down on your tummy and then come on your palms and toes.Lift the knees off the floor. Draw your tummy muscles up and breathe deeply into the side and back of the rib cage. Aim to hold the pose for 30 seconds. 2.Static Tiger pose - Place your hands and knees on the floor. This is the starting position. Now lift up one leg and extend the opposite arm. Hold this Static Tiger Pose for 3 deep breaths. Come back to the starting position and swap sides, extending arm and opposite leg. You can look down towards the mat to keep the spine in line. This exercise will build core strength. 3.Sitting Spinal Twist - Sit on the floor and cross your legs. Place one hand next to your hip and the other on the knee. Rotate the spine and look over one shoulder into a Sitting Spinal Twist. Inhale. Exhale back to centre. Swap sides, rotating and looking over the shoulder. Inhale. Exhale back to centre. 4.Stomach Crunches - Lie on your back, knees bent and feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart. Place your hands on your thighs, across your chest or behind your ears. Slowly curl up towards your knees until your shoulders are about three inches off the floor. Hold the position for a few seconds and lower down slowly. Perform 12 stomach crunches. 5.Oblique Crunch - Lie on your back, knees bent and feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart. Roll your knees to one side down to the floor. Place your hands across your chest or behind your ears. Slowly curl up towards your hips until your shoulders are about three inches off the floor. Hold the position for a few seconds and lower down slowly. Perform 12 oblique crunches and repeat on the opposite side. Medication: Start taking Schwabe's Phytolacca Berry tablets/ thrice daily 1/2 an hr before the meals for 1 month. Thereafter revert me back for further guidance. All the best!

An anti-tetanus serum is not required in routine injuries. It is only recommended in an intensively crushed and dirty wound, in which case it is given within the first six hours after the injury. A routine tetanus toxoid is also not necessary if one is previously fully immunised. In case one is not, then the toxoid is administered within the first 24 hours after the injury.

Knee pain usually occurs due to weak muscle around your knee joint. People who are doing daily brisk walks, jogging and running are more likely to get knee pain so for that they should reduce to thrice a week and the other days can do recumbent cycling, swimming or cross trainer (elliptical cycle).
This actually reduce the load exerted on your knees and will give some rest from impact which occur due to jogging or brisk walking. Regular icing after such strenuous activities will also the minimize the risk of injuries to the knee joint.

Hello all. I have severe pain in my right ankle and calf muscles, to be precise the muscle right above the ankle and the muscle to right under the knee. My arches of both legs are collapsed a bit. The right leg has more collapsed arch. Even a little pain in knee, hip and back. A cracking sound of bones is usually heard from my feet and knee, even in right hip at times. Sudden pain in some nerve in my back. From past four days I couldn't walk or sleep properly. As I started to put little force on right leg and walk has made my other leg to experience the same kind of pain. I even had bunions. Is this a kind of flatfeet or overpronation. Or is this a neurological problem. Can it be cured?

Yes it can be a flat feet. That's why you. Are getting multiple joints pain of your lower leg. As you said arch is completely collapsed so weight bearing of the body is disturbed. You can get your EMG NCV done to see which all muscles are weak and then take a good Neuro opinion and do regular. Supervised ex's for your lower limb muscle. Nowadays you get custom made shoes with arches or you can get it done with prosthesis. People which will support your muscles as well as help in proper weight distribution. All the. Best.
