1. Ginger Ginger can help reduce inflammation of the blood vessels in the head, thus providing relief from a headache. •Mix equal parts of ginger juice and lemon juice. Consume it once or twice a day. •Another option is to apply a paste of one teaspoon of dry ginger powder, also called sonth, and two tablespoons of water on the forehead for a few minutes. •You can also boil ginger powder or raw ginger in water, and inhale the vapor. •Chew one or two pieces of crystallized ginger candy. 2. Mint Juice Menthol and menthone are the primary components of mint which are very effective in alleviating headaches. Extract mint juice from a handful of mint leaves and apply it on forehead and temples to treat headache. You can also place mint tea compresses on the forehead to relieve discomfort. Along with mint juice, corainder juice is also effective in treating headaches. 3. Peppermint Oil Peppermint contains menthol that helps open up clogged blood vessels that cause headaches. It also has calming and soothing effects. •Mix three drops of peppermint essential oil in one tablespoon of almond oil, olive oil or just water. Massage your forehead and temples with it. Or, you can put crushed fresh peppermint leaves on your forehead. •Alternatively, you can prepare a steam treatment by adding a few drops of peppermint essential oil to a small pot of boiling water. Inhale the steam for a few minutes. 4. Basil Basil works as a muscle relaxant, making it a helpful treatment for mild headaches caused by tense muscles. Plus, it has calming and analgesic effects. •Put three or four fresh basil leaves in a cup of boiling water and let it simmer for a few minutes. Optionally, add a little honey and then sip the tea slowly. •You can also boil one tablespoon of basil leaves or a few drops of basil oil to a pot of boiling water and carefully lean over the pot to take in the steam. •Alternatively, chew some fresh basil leaves or massage your forehead with basil oil mixed with a base oil. 5. Lavender Oil Simply smelling the soothing scent of lavender essential oil can be of great help in relieving tension headaches. Research suggests that it can also help improve migraine symptoms. •Put a few drops of lavender essential oil on a tissue and inhale it. You can also add two drops of lavender oil to two cups of boiling water and inhale the steam. •Another option is to mix two or three drops of lavender essential oil in one tablespoon of carrier oil such as almond oil or olive oil and massage your forehead with it. Note: Do not take lavender oil orally. 6. Ice Pack The cold from ice helps reduce inflammation that contributes to headaches. Plus, it has a numbing effect on the pain. •Applying an ice pack to the back of your neck can give you relief from a migraine headache. •You can also place a washcloth dipped in ice-cold water over your head for five minutes. Repeat the process several times.

Maintain pressure for seven to 15 seconds, then release. Repeat as needed. Rest, sit, or lie quietly in a low-lit room. Common Asthma Myths.

Asthma is a potentially dangerous disease, and according to WHO estimates, 235 million people around the world suffer from it. It is also the most common chronic health condition among children.

In the event of an asthma attack, the airways of the lungs become inflamed, and the condition is triggered by allergens such as mould, dust, pollen, and pet dander. The symptoms include frequent coughing, shortness of breath and wheezing, fatigue, and other changes in lung function. Anything that triggers allergies can also lead to asthma symptoms.

Because of the severity of this disease, it's important to get the facts right, so as to avoid mishaps and interference in proper treatment. On World Asthma Day, we set record straight on this condition, its causes, symptoms, and treatment.

Myth: People with asthma shouldn't exercise.
If the asthma is under control, there is absolutely no reason why people with the condition can't be physically active. It is important for both adults and children to stay active and healthy to prevent obesity. Obesity is an asthma trigger that can make symptoms worse.

Myth: Asthma can be cured.
Not true. Asthma is treatable, but despite great progress in the field of medicine, we still don't have a cure for this condition. Some people believe that alternative medicine such as homeopathy or Ayurveda have the potential to cure asthma, but this is simply not true. Only a timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment can help people with asthma lead normal, active lives.

Myth: Inhaled steroids are harmful and addictive.
A lot of people confuse inhaled steroids with anabolic steroids that are used in sports and fitness. Inhaled steroids are asthma preventer medications, and currently, these medications are the only way to keep severe asthma under control. They are effective and non-addictive.

Myth: Children outgrow asthma.
It is a misconception that children who have asthma outgrow it by the time they hit puberty. The disease does go into remission in some kids around puberty, but this is not because the asthma has been cured. Most often, the symptoms strike again, and sometimes the asthma returns when young adults start consuming alcohol.

Myth: Smoking does not affect asthma.
False! Smoking is a major asthma trigger, which is why people with asthma have an even stronger reason than most to quit this harmful habit. Second-hand smoking by a parent also triggers asthma symptoms or worsens them in kids. Many people with asthma find when they quit smoking they experience significantly fewer symptoms and less frequent asthma attacks.

Myth: Moving to a dry climate can cure asthma.
It's true that a change in environment may temporarily put off asthma symptoms, but it's not possible that this will cure the disease. Many people find that their symptoms reduce when they're at the countryside or the coast. Eventually, allergens will trigger the symptoms again.

To reduce asthma triggers at home, make sure your house is dust-free. Clean your fans and AC units often. Avoid carpeting and other furnishings that trap dust and mould. Keeps your windows closed during pollen season. If humid climate is a trigger for you, use a dehumidifier in your home.

Myth: It's normal to use your inhaler at least once a day.
Not true! If you are regularly your inhaler to treat asthma symptoms more than twice a week, then it is obvious that your condition is not under control. It's important that you see your doctor and talk about what's going on.

There are several things you can do to prevent a cold?they are all easy and inexpensive and worth the effort. Wash your hands often-with soap and warm water. The germs stick to the soap and get washed down the drain. Always wash your hands after coughing or sneezing into your hands, blowing your nose, after touching someone who is sick, or when using public restrooms or telephones. Cover Your Mouth and Nose When You Sneeze or Cough- Clean your hands every time you cough or sneeze. Avoid Touching Your Eyes, Nose, or Mouth-Germs are often spread when a person touches a contaminated surface and then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth. Stay Home When You?re Sick-Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, don?t smoke, manage stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food so you can fend off viruses. Avoid people who have a cold or cold symptoms. Routinely clean and disinfect common areas of your home. Treatment:There is a gradual 1-3 day onset of symptoms. It often starts out as a sore throat, then a fever and coughing. As the cold progresses, the nasal mucus may thicken which is the last stage before the cold dries up. A cold usually lasts for a week or two. But, taking good care of yourself at home can relieve symptoms and help prevent complications if you are otherwise healthy. Unless you develop complications, you shouldn?t need medical treatment. Complications include bacterial infections of the ears, throat, sinuses or lungs which must be treated with antibiotics. In general you should: ? get plenty of rest so your body can use its energy to fight the cold ? staying at home will keep you from spreading germs ? drink plenty of liquids like herbal tea or hot broth/vegetable/tomato soups. Avoid foods or drinks with caffeine which can keep you from getting enough sleep Runny Nose and Sneezing- if you have post nasal drip, gargle to keep from getting a sore throat. Drink extra fluids. (avoid sugary and high calorie drinks) Use saline nasal sprays or nasal irrigation ? Tablet Nasorest-P once/twice daily may reduce the amount of mucous. ? Humidify the rooms you are in most or your whole house if possible. Cough-Coughing is how your body gets rid of debris and mucus from the airways during a viral infection. Unless your cough is severe or is keeping you from resting at night, it is better not to treat it. A severe cough can be treated with a cough syp, but don?t try to completely stop the cough. There are two types of coughs. Productive and non-productive or dry cough. Non-productive, dry cough. A dry, hacking cough may develop near the end of a cold. Dry coughs that follow viral colds are often worse at night and can last up to several weeks. Take syrup Alex-D for a dry cough. Cough drops can sooth an irritated throat, but most don?t affect the cough. Productive cough. A productive cough is one that brings up mucus from the back of the throat or the lungs. Productive coughs should not be suppressed to the point they no longer bring up mucus. Use syrup Alex. Drink lots of water if you have a productive cough. Head and Body Aches- Take tablet dolo-650 mg for fever once or twice daily

You can reduce your eltroxin dose as tsh is low. Continue telma, if your blood pressure is in normal range. Start lifestyle changes like dietary measures and exercise, if not already and ask your doctor who has prescribed you the omega 3 supplement, to change the brand and see. If you are non-veg then increase your fish consumption. Scientists all around the globe have found fish oil to be superior to omega 3 from other sources.
