My voice was very good. I use to smoke but quit 2 months back. But if I speak continuously even 10 mnts also. My voice getting rough. Please do the needful.

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry, Clinical Elective
Psychiatrist, Jaipur
Quitting smoking is not supposed to be related to hoarseness of voice. But, during the initial period after quitting you may experience throat irritation and increased cough. If that is what you have, you can relax. Otherwise consult ENT specialist for change of voice.

Both are protein rich foods and for weight gain you don't need only proteins but carbohydrate rich foods too. So have either milk or an egg with a cereal like roti poha rawa pav etc.

I have premature ejaculation problem ,I have confusion about whom to consult sexologist or a psychiatrist?

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
I have premature ejaculation problem ,I have confusion about whom to consult sexologist or a psychiatrist?
If the sexual problem is due to mind, psychiatrist, if due to blood supply changes urologist. Psychiatric reasons are more common 90% people. Premature ejaculation is uncontrolled ejaculation either before or shortly after sexual penetration or foreplay. It happens with minimal sexual stimulation and before the person wishes. It may result in unsatisfactory sex for both partners. This can increase the anxiety that may add to the problem. It is one of the most common forms of male sexual dysfunction. It has probably affected every man at some point in his life. Most cases of premature ejaculation do not have a clear cause. With sexual experience and age, men often learn to delay orgasm. Psychological factors such as anxiety, guilt, or depression can also cause it. In some cases, it may be related to a medical cause such as hormonal problems, injury, or a side effect of certain medicines. Consult any psychiatrist online or in person Your doctor will discuss your medical and sexual history with you. He or she will do a thorough physical exam. Your doctor may want to talk to your partner also. Premature ejaculation can have many causes. So your doctor may order lab tests to rule out any other medical problem. In many cases premature ejaculation gets better on its own over time. Treatment may not be needed. Practicing relaxation techniques or using distraction methods may help you delay ejaculation. Your doctor may recommend that you and your partner practice certain techniques to help delay ejaculation, as well as medications are there to help. All the best.

Dear Lybrate user, your question is a very theoretical one and many studies have been conducted regarding this. Aging is a mystery for scientists and many exceptions exist that defy common aging phenomena. For example, take the cases of such rare people who have lived more than 110 or 120 years. No one knows for sure what is their diet and physiology that led them live for so many years. We may say that such people are chance phenomena. Because not everyone is living up to 100 or more years. The questions you have put are interesting but they lack logical validity. You seem to indicate that less sleep leads to great scientific discoveries. Or that people who take less sleep live for longer. It seems you want to say that by sleeping less one may focus on productive endeavors. But there are many critical points in this argument. First of all, there is no such evident certain causation. There may be people who seem to be productive but not because they are utilizing sleep hours. One or two hours may not make you super-productive if you are not determined and hard working towards your goals. We may reason otherwise that people who are productive and energetic may not require too much rest because their ambitions make them alert and competitive. They are living a meaningful life. Compare the life of a person who is watching television all the time and spending time on whatsapp or facebook. His life is too monotonous and dry. This kind of person usually sleeps more. He has so much time to spend in leisure. His brain is working slowly. On the other hand, a person like Narendra Modi or Shahrukh Khan, works for 18-20 hours per day. They remain fit and calm due to productive work schedule. They enjoy their life more. So the key to less sleep and more productivity may lie in hard work, ambition, and meaningful life. Hope this answer resolves your query.

Fever - Ayurvedic Treatment For It!

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

Fever - Ayurvedic Treatment For It!

According to Ayurveda, ‘Jwara’ or fever refers to the irregularities of body temperature. In majority of the cases, there is reduced heat in the GIT (gastrointestinal tract) and an increased temperature in the external body. Fever might be a symptom of a disease or can be a disease in itself. According to Ayurveda, fever happens because of an imbalance in the following doshas:
1. Vata
2. Aghantuja
3. Pitta
4. Kapha
5. Vata-Kapha
6. Vata-Pitta
7. Vata-Pitta-Kapha
8. Pitta-Kapha

Fever Management Rules
Light food or fasting is advised at the early stage of fever. This helps in drawing away heat from the external parts nd shifts it to the center. You should drink warm water in all fevers, except Pitta fever. Doing so balances the stomach heat. Warm liquid foods that include sago or barley should be consumed. Vegetable soup help as well, but astringent foods should be avoided at the early stages of the fever. During the early fever stages, antipyretic medications are to be avoided. These medicines reduce the stomach’s temperature and by doing so, render the Ayurvedic treatment redundant as the GIT’s heat is lowered.

General fever treatment therapies

  1. Sudarshana Choorna should be taken twice daily and about 2 grams should suffice. This ‘Choorna’ can be taken along with any of the above mentioned treatments.
  2. Vasaka leaf is another simple remedy for treating fever. It should be mixed with ‘Shukti Bhasma’ (10%) and should be taken twice daily in 2 gram doses.
  3. Ginger tea is another remedy that always turns out to be comforting and is of great value. Consume a concoction made by adding half a teaspoon of fennel seeds, cinnamon, ginger powder and a little clove to a hot cup of water helps. The herbs should be soaked for about 10 minutes. They should be filtered afterwards before drinking the tea. It should be kept in mind that both ginger and aspirin dilute the blood. Thus, ginger tea should be avoided for two hours after consuming aspirin.
  4. Fasting for about a day is advised for fever without any other symptom as the body gets rid of toxins. A strict diet regimen should be followed after consulting a doctor. Steamed vegetables without spices are recommended. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ayurveda.
