5 Ways To Reduce Your Anxiety!

5 Ways To Reduce Your Anxiety!

Living with anxiety on a daily basis can be really stressful. And while you are dealing with anxiety, it is very important not to sway away with the symptoms and commit yourself to a treatment. For instant release of anxiety, you really don't need to go for a vacation or to the spa or a weekend retreat. It is easy to beat anxiety within 5-15 minutes, just being where you are.

So don't think and instantly reduce your anxiety to give yourself a wonderful day. Here are 5 ways to reduce your anxiety immediately.

  1. Meditation: Meditation for a few minutes daily helps relieve anxiety. As per a research, doing meditation daily changes the neural pathways of the brain, thereby making it more flexible towards stress. Meditation is the simplest way to beat anxiety. All you have to do is just sit straight with feet on the floor and closed eyes. Next just focus your energy on reciting a mantra.
  2. Deep Breathing: A 5-minute breathing regime is a sure shot way to relieve anxiety. Sit straight with closed eyes and place your hands on your abdomen. First start with slow inhalation of air through the nose. Feel the breath through your abdomen and head and then reverse the process by exhaling it out through the mouth. Psychologists state that deep breathing helps to bring down stress and anxiety by lowering the blood pressure.
  3. Laugh Aloud: A good laugh is a great way to shed off the stress and anxiety. When you laugh, chemical endorphins are released which elevate your mood. A good laugh also lowers the cortisol levels which are the stress hormone.
  4. Talk to someone: Distracting yourself by talking to friends and family helps. The mind starts wandering when in anxiety and alone and the effective technique to talk to some trusted person helps. The support you get from family and friends just boosts you back and wards you off the symptoms. In case of a panic attack, you can request the company of a friend and relative to watch over you.
  5. Trick your anxious thoughts: Anxiety does not happen suddenly but is due to the mind's tendency to have negative thoughts spiraling day in and day out and the worse is that you have no control over the thoughts. Learn to tame these thoughts and the triggers which cause these to keep anxiety at bay.

There are strategies which you can try to help you keep anxious thoughts away.

1. Question yourself when you experience anxiety. A long checklist helps you make your thoughts more realistic.
2. Give affirmations to yourself that everything is okay, you will get over the situation. Usually, affirmations are made to comfort one.
3. Know the physical symptoms as many times physical sensations like in case of a panic attack tend to trigger anxiety and stress. When you get used to the symptoms, the mind does not send signals for anxiety to the brain. Create exercise to habituate yourself to a panic attack. There is no cure for anxiety but the fastest way to get your anxiety under control is to simply manage it. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Psychologist.

Hello lybrate-user, Try to keep to a regular timing for going to bed. Avoid fried and heavy foods. Eat early and light food at night so that the food is almost digested by the time you go to bed. Prefer fruits and green vegetables. Fix daily work schedule and be busy with your work. Don’t keep pending problems in mind. Note down the points and leave them for next day’s action. Don’t do stimulating mental work or keep watching TV which can keep your mind agitated or active. This will not allow you to sleep. LCD screen will also have adverse effect. Day’s physical exercise makes you tired and induces sleep. A warm bath in the evening will also be helpful. Low volume music also induces sleep. Keep your bed room neat, dark and cool. You may cover your eyes with bed sheet. Drink plenty of water during the day rather than toward bedtime. Don’t have stimulating drinks like tea or coffee. Drinking a glass of milk before going to bed is fine. If head ache is severe take tab. Dolo 650mg with one glass of milk and sleep.

Hi Mr. lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Chronic constipation is often the lead cause behind ulcerative colitis. You definitely do need to streamline your diet which should mostly comprise of softly cooked or steamed vegetables with less of salt, oil, ghee, spices etc all. Preferably, use olive oil for cooking. The more bland the diet is, easily digestible will it be and the better it will be for your health/ recovery. Also, do consume well ripened fruits especially papaya & banana. Home made buttermilk (to which a pinch of fresh turmeric is added) and tender coconut water too are immensely valuable in this condition. Also consume vegetables like cabbage, carrot, papaya, beet, spinach and fruits like apple that can be of help. Do take care to avoid citrus fruits as it may exacerbate your colitis issue. Flesh foods, tea, coffee, sweets, cakes, pastries, greasy, oily, salty, spicy foods including fast foods are best avoided too. Fresh cold water fish, 3 times bi-weekly, helps. Do take plenty of water daily, and ensure that you get enough of bed rest, avoiding stress/ strain/ anxieties. Also, take care not to strain while passing stools. A light abdominal massage on a regular basis also helps. In addition to the above-mentioned natural guidelines, you can take 'Triphala Churna' (Patanjali) - 1/2 tsp daily with warm water, preferably after dinner, for next 1 month. Also, consuming 'Bael Churna' (Patanjali) - 1/2 tsp daily with warm water, post lunch, for next 1 month helps remove chronic constipation, if any and help feel better. Being a heart patient, with pacemaker (PPI ?), the above-mentioned advisory is subject to your cardiologist's/ endocrinologist's concurrence. Do take care and all the very best. Sincerely,

My hrad starts paining when I remain in sunlight for long time. What ia the reason?

My hrad starts paining when I remain in sunlight for long time. What ia the reason?
I believe because our eyes can only adjust to one level of brightness at a time. When we look at bright light, the iris contracts to let minimum light pass through. Many muscles of face and eye squeeze to make iris aperture as small as possible. And that's why the head aches. Try and avoid long exposure to sun and keep yourself hydrated. Drink plenty of water. Dehydration could also be one of the reasons of head-ache.
