I have fungal infection around my private parts(jock itch) since last 6 month Its also on my face I have taken turbifine 250 and got relief but after some time it again come suggest me permanent solutions.

MBBS, DPD-Cardiff (U.K)
Dermatologist, Noida
Fungal infection of skin- ringworm- is a very common problem. It increases in rainy and humid weather and is more irritating and itchy when you sweat. Most creams given by pharmacies contain steroids that reduce the redness and itching for some days but does not cure the infection. You need to take a course of antifungal tablet along with anti fungal creams and anti- itch medicine to prevent the infection from spreading by repeated itching. Provide these details - number of days of infection, history of diabetes or any other illness, and your weight so that appropriate dosage can be prescribed. Do not apply steroid creams. Wear clean and totally dry clothes.

My smokes 2 cigarettes every day. Please suggest any home remedies to reduce tar?

Masters in Clinical Psychology
Psychologist, Lucknow
Hi, When you smoke cigarettes your vitamin A, C and E levels lower. You can still restore them though! Eat fruits, such as Kiwi, that are rich with these vitamins, and your body will start restoring these levels. Spinach is full of folic acid and is full of vitamins. It contains vitamin A and flavonoids which are known to help protect the body from lung cancer. Spinach is also rich in iron, which your body needs to carry oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body. Make sure you are always drinking water. When you smoke your body becomes dehydrated. You can hydrate your body back to normal, and flush out all the nicotine by drinking a lot of water. Onions are amazing! This vegetable helps when it comes to cleaning out your lungs! Onions can prevent many diseases, including lung infections. Oranges contain cyrptoxanthin, which also helps prevent lung cancer. Oranges are also rich in vitamin C which help your lungs effectively transport oxygen throughout your body. Ginger helps defend against malignant diseases. You can eat a piece of ginger with a meal, or drink ginger root tea, as it facilitates breathing. It is a very strong tool to relive you from the toxins in your lungs. Exercising is a great way to keep your lungs healthy. Deep breathing exercises help strengthen your lungs, so make sure to do breathing exercises regularly. If you don’t know any types of breathing exercises you can follow this one: Stand up, keep your arms at your sides, keep your feet a little apart, and relax. Take several deep breaths, breathe in through your nose and exhale through your mouth until you can’t exhale anymore. Make you Diaphragm let out all of the air from your lungs by heavily gasping. Make sure to exhale through your mouth a few times until there isn’t any air left in your lungs. Inhale through your nose and let the fresh air into your empty lungs. Take a deep breath in and make sure to fully fill up your lungs with air. Hold your breath for 5 seconds, counting slowly. Every cell in your body should be filled with oxygen at this point. Exhale one last time through your mouth until there’s no more air left. You can repeat steps 4-6 as many times as you want. This is a great way to help keep your lungs strong! all the best

Can Bronchitis Be Contagious?

MBBS, MD - Pulmonary Medicine
Pulmonologist, Faridabad
Can Bronchitis Be Contagious?

You are out in public, and a person next to you is incessantly coughing. It is natural to be worried if it is bronchitis and the possibility of you getting infected. Read on to know about the condition and if it is really contagious. Bronchial tubes are the airways in the lungs, and when they are inflamed due to an infection or an underlying medical condition, it results in bronchitis. Bronchitis can be acute or chronic and depending on the cause, may or may not be contagious.

Types of bronchitis
Chronic bronchitis occurs when the airways in the lungs get irritated again and again. Though it’s a severe health condition that requires medical attention, it is not as contagious as it occurs due to the exposure to certain chemicals, dust, cigarette smoke or smoke from a fire, air pollutants that irritate the lungs.

On the other hand, acute bronchitis that usually lasts for one to three weeks is considered to be contagious because this particular type of bronchitis happens due to the flu or cold viruses. It is the infectious properties of the viruses causing it that makes it contagious.

Transmission
In the case of acute bronchitis, since it is caused mainly due to viral infections when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks, the viruses get transmitted to others in the surrounding. Hence it can spread quickly.

Symptoms
Some of the common symptoms of acute bronchitis are a hacking cough, production of excessive mucus, shortness of breath, and feelings of discomfort in the chest. Note that as long as the infection is present, acute bronchitis remains contagious. Once the infection is gone, it is no longer contagious, though, the symptoms, like a persisting cough, may stay for several weeks afterward.

Prevention
Maintaining a healthy hygiene, such as washing hands regularly or keeping the surfaces clean, or using a handkerchief when coughing or sneezing can help in preventing the spread of the infection as well as getting affected with it. Also, taking flu vaccinations and quitting to smoke can also assist in preventing lung infections.

Treatment
For the majority cases of acute bronchitis, the condition is resolved by itself within a few weeks and antibiotics may not be an ideal treatment option if the acute bronchitis is caused by a virus. The most recommended treatment options that can quicken the recovery process are taking rest, opting for prescribed over-the-counter medications, drinking lots of fluids, inhaling the steam of hot water, whether from the shower or a bowl of hot water.

People who have asthma or chronic bronchitis sometimes may develop acute bronchitis as a result of further complications of their present lung conditions and not as a result of virus invasion. Therefore, the chances of such acute bronchitis being contagious are less than those caused by influenza viruses or bacteria.

Thus, acute bronchitis due to a viral infection is more contagious than chronic bronchitis that is due to an underlying medical condition like asthma and other lung diseases. With a few simple and effective measures, such contagious infections can be prevented.
