What are the reasons for low bone density? and also what we should do to get rid of this problem?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Low bone density has many causes: it is common in females after menopause because of hormonal changes, in both sexes bone density decreases with increasing age because bone degradation is more as compared to formation. It is also secondary to many diseases like diabetes, thyroid disorders and many more smokers have low density, so there are various reasons for it. Medically it is advisable to keep yourself physically fit, so regular exercises and walks is important as it leads to good bone turnover and keeps bones healthy, adequate calcium and vitamin d in body is important for bone metabolism. Also diets rich in calcium like milk and milk products, fresh fruits and vegetables etc should be taken. My mom is 57 year old and she is suffering from knee pain, here local doctor said that she is suffering due to artheritics problem, she is taking medicines after consultations from local doctors but she does not getting any relief, so please say me what I do now for her hope for your quick response.

Age should be considered first before go for any therapy get thyroid levels checked, vit-d cholestrol kft, sugar levels please mention if she is taking any medicines for hypertension then report on private portal for further advise.

I am suffering from cervical spondylytis since 2007. I am taking spondin (homeopathic) not regularly, only when feel uncomfortable. Also do little exercise. Please guide, what medicine do I have to take?

It could be fibromyalgia rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Use no pillow under the head. Any way take bio d3 max 1tab odx10days ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days do neck & back (spine) exercises contact me again if need be. Use of cervical collar will give you relief. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take.

Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold). Avoid Squatting- Avoid sitting Cross legged Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day.

I suggest you follow the below for your condition: take mag phos 6x - thrice daily for next 2 weeks and update. Heat and ice packs. Heat and/or cold therapy helps relieve most types of low back pain by reducing inflammation. Often patients use ice, but some prefer heat. Both may be used alternately.

From the last 10 days I am having a pain in the joint between the thigh and upper body in my left leg .can't understand the nature of the pain ,whether it's a cramp or something else but when I exercise sometime the pain goes away. It is causing problem in any kind of movement during the pain. During the exercise there is sometimes bone noise from the knees. I cannot determine whom to consult.

Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana -- Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

Hello, you can take homoeopathic medicines 1. Ruta 30 (4 drops in little water) thrice a day for a week. 2. Rhus tox 30 (4 drops in little water) thrice a day for a week and update. Keep a gap of 15 - 20 minutes in both the medicines. *take rest or move about once in 1-2 hours in case of working in a constant position. *maintain a good posture while reading or working with computers. *take a high fibre content diet like vegetables, fruits, etc.

Apply prasarini oil or pranacharya restopain oil on affected part then give hot fomentation. Take maharasnadi kwath 2-2 tsf twice a day. 1-1 tab yograj guggul after lunch and dinner. Avoid tea. Coffee. Junk food. Spicy food. Fermented food. Take green vegetables. Drink juice. Eat fruits. Drink 7-8 glass of water in a day. Take 7 hours sleep minimum. Do pranayama early morning. Do back exercises to improve strength of muscles and hot water formentation. Avoid long time same position like sitting, standing, walking and household works, etc. Take short rest breaks. Correct your posture.

Dear Lybrate user Do muscle streching exercise for legs & back with best advice of physiotherapist only. Take hot formentation. I wud like to suggest you one more thing that you must try to reduce your body weight. Over weight causes so many problems regarding to health as bad effects on viceral organs ,hypertension, diabetes,backache and joint pain, etc. Some dietary changes as add high fiber diet &juicy fresh fruits, fluids intake. Avoid spicy & junk food. Try to add in routein walking morning or evening start from fifteen min. Then progressivly increase day by day.

I think application of medicated oil will help you a lot. Just 10 minutes before bath (if no time in morning, do when you get back from office, apply the oil to whole body and have a bath. If you get hot water then hot water bath is much better. The oil name is" arthritic oil" of" viswanath pharmacy" it cost about 300 rupee. The best thing it's not sticky and don't have fowl smell. I suggest it because it is the oil which gave me a better feedback from patients than other oils. If you can buy it its good, you will get better soon.

If simple backpain than sleep without pillow on flat surface but if some slipdisorder than use lumber support belt except sleeping, eating -ur age also consider for osteoporosis so evaluate also.

is it only in the right feet and also rt ankle did you have any history in the past. and what is the present problem of the knee or ankle or both.?it there are any swelling and pain in the joints both joints. you should do hot and cold bath of the foot may be duebto sprain of ankle joint. you can consult surgeon.

Hello. We can't reverse the established pathology back, but we can control the process in the stage it is so that it wouldn't grow further. Apply Bakson’s Rheum Aid oil gently (2-3 times a day) and take orally Bakson’s Rheum-Aid syrup/ 1 tablespoon thrice daily. Also, increase your dietary intake of calcium which is present in green leafy vegetables, milk, milk products, sea food, white legumes, dried fig, black-eyed peas, almonds, oranges, seasame seeds. And vitamin D which is essential for absorption of calcium in our body and is synthesized naturally after getting exposed to sunlight, so early morning sunlight for 10-15min. 2-3 times a day is mandatory. Apart from this, do walk daily along with physiotherapy will also help you.
