When rolling the eyes, make as large a circle as possible, so that you feel a little strain as you do the exercise. This stretches the eye muscles to the maximum extent, giving better results. --------------------------------- (3. While using computor use in proper light. There is nothing more effective than controlling usage to reduce and negate the effects.---------------- You can also reduce the intensity of the computor screen by attaching a filter or by getting an eye-friendly screen. Above all, one must try to reduce the amount of computor usage or take frequent breaks. Operations done to remove the refractive error (power) of the eyes are known as refractive surgery. There are certain basic criteria that most patients need to fulfill before they can safely undergo refractive surgery. To enumerate, they are: (1) stability of refraction: the power of the eyes should have become stable for a period of 1.5 years minimum without any change. (2) curvature of the cornea should be tested by a technique which is known as topography. (3) thickness of the cornea should be measured by a test known as pachymetry. The minimum thickness required is 550 microns. (4) dilated retina evaluation: this is one of the most important tests that should be performed by a trained retina specialist. This test helps in detection of any offensive lesion on the central or peripheral retina. In case of any retinal abnormality, these should be treated before undergoing the surgery for number reduction. (5) there should be no pre-existent corneal abnormality. (example: corneal scar, opacity, defect, etc.) another important suggestion is that whenever you go for the assessment (the above mentioned tests), you should discontinue the use of contact lenses at least 4 weeks prior to the assessment. The reason for this being that use of contact lens temporarily alters the contour of the cornea. It takes around 3-4 weeks for the restoration of the original corneal contour after removal of the contact lens. Another important point is that you, as a patient, should be compliant to put post operative medication in your eyes for at least 2 months. There is bound to be some discomfort, watering, foreign body sensation, pain after the surgery in most cases-you should be ready to tolerate that. A leave from work for 7-10 days after the surgery should be generally sufficient. Last but not the least, you should set realistic expectations from this surgery. Though extremely rare, there is a remote possibility that the surgery may need to be repeated. Also, the need for subsequent treatment for the eye may be required. Thus, you should be compliant enough to trust and follow your eye specialist.

If you get relief by using ophthacare eye drops by Himalayan drug ,you may continue to use it ,it is quite safe eye drops. I think you are having dryness (computer Vision syndrome) due to overuse of smartphone, computer & watching TV for long time without break, so you may use some lubricating eye drops (Refresh liquigel) 4-5 times a day.

Hello doctors, I just wanted to know that contact lenses are comfortable/suitable for eyes or not? does it harmful?

Contact lenses if not used properly can lead to serious complications like corneal infection contact lenses should be used with proper aseptic precautions. The nutrition to cornea comes from oxygen in air, which gets compromised when using contact lens, making eye prone to infections. Different contact lenses have different period of time for which it can be used. Dont used it beyond that period. Never use contact lens in dusty conditions. Never sleep with contact lens on. If you abide by these things you will have no problems.

Hello. There is no medication or food for improving eye sight or to get rid of glasses. Get your vision tested and wear glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser as your age is now 17 years so your number will increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik after age of 18 yrs.

My eyesight has been stable for the past 15 years. Although now I feel that my eyes are always stressed. Even washing with water gives temporary relief. Even when I get up in the morning, my eyes feel heavy, irritated and stressed. Closing eyes bring relief, and I feel like I should keep my eyes closed all the time. I don't watch tv or use laptop for extended periods. Mobile use however is extensive. I'm not on any medication currently and have no history of any disease. Please suggest the proper course of action.

You have something called as computer vision syndrome. So take frequent breaks while you are working every 20-25 mins take break to look away from screen blink more frequently' level of screen should be below the level of eyes ac should not blow directly on your face. Also get your eyes checked for any spectacle power.

What Are Eye Floaters?

What Are Eye Floaters?

The spots which occur in the vision are known as eye floaters. One might feel specks of gray and black or cobwebs and strings drifting in the eyes and the same darts away on staring at them directly. The most common cause of eye floaters is age related. This happens when the vitreous & the jelly like substance of the eye becomes very liquid. The fibers within the vitreous clump to form small shadows on the retina. This gives it an appearance of floaters.

Symptoms of eye floaters Include:

  • Spots in the vision which appear as knobby or dark specs and strings that are transparent float in the eye
  • Spots which move when the eyes are moved and when one tries to look at them these spots quickly move away from the field of vision
  • Spots that are noticed most when looking at plain backgrounds like a white wall or blue sky
  • Spots which settle and drift put slowly from the vision

Causes of eye floaters are:

  • Age-related: The most common cause of eye floaters is the age related changes in the vitreous. Vitreous is a jelly like substance which fills the eyeballs and help it to maintain the round shape. With age the vitreous liquefies partially and this causes it to be pulled away from the interior surface of the eyeball. As the vitreous sags and shrinks, it becomes stringy and clumpy. When the vitreous gets clumpy then small debris block the light which passes through the eye and casts shadows on the retina.
  • Inflammation at the back of the eye: The inflammation of the layers of the uvea in the back region of the eye is called posterior uveitis. This can give rise to eye floaters. Posterior uveitis is usually caused by inflammatory disease or infections.
  • Bleeding in the eye: Bleeding of the eye in the vitreous can have any cause associated with it. Some might be an injury or the problems of the blood vessel.
  • Torn retina: Tearing of the retina occurs when the sagging vitreous applies a pressure on the retina and ends up tearing it. If treatment not given then the retinal tear might lead to the detachment of the retina and accumulation of fluid behind the retina. This causes the retina to separate from the eye. If not treated it might also lead to permanent vision loss.

Treatment of Eye Floaters:

  • Eye floaters are very frustrating and might take time to adjust to them. However, with time one might start ignoring them and noticing them less.
  • Eye floaters which lead to impaired vision might need laser to disrupt the floaters or surgery to remove the vitreous.

Hello, get your eyes tested from an opthalmologist. Include the following for getting better vision: vitamins a, c, e, and minerals like copper and zinc are essential to eyesight. Get the antioxidants from dark leafy greens, egg yolks, yellow peppers, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Include garlic and onions. Blueberries, grapes as they have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help improve your vision. Dha is a fatty acid found in coldwater fish like salmon, sardines and mackerel. Exercises for strengthening eye muscles: -begin by partially closing your eyes; the lids should only be halfway shut. After holding for 10-15 seconds, close your eyes very slowly. Take a few deep breaths to increase oxygen in the blood. -warm your eyes. Rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times. -hold a pen at arm's length. Focus your gaze on the tip of the pen. Bring the pen closer to your nose at a slow and steady pace. Repeat this exercise 5-10 times. -concentrate your vision on the tip of your nose. Then shift your gaze to an object further away, either at arm's length or 20 feet away. Then shift your eyes back to the tip of your nose. Repeat this exercise 10 times. -sit in a relaxed but upright position. Begin by look to the left-most position (without moving your head) and hold to stretch your eye muscles. Hold for 5 counts. Blink and return your gaze back to look straight in front of you. Then look to the right-most position with your gaze and hold for 5 counts. Repeat 3 times, blinking between each hold. Then, repeat this exercise looking up and then down. Do not forget about blinking. -sit in a relaxed but upright position. Look up and to your right for 5 seconds. Return your gaze to center. Look up to and to your left for 5 seconds. Return your gaze to center. Look down and to your right for 5 seconds. Return your gaze to center. Look down and to your left for 5 seconds. Insufficient sleep may weaken your vision, so shoot for 8 hours of sound sleep a night. Rest your eyes 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent reading or in front of the computer. If your eyes feel overly tired, lie down and place cooling cucumber slices over your eyelids. Medication: take homoeopathic medicine which will help you in preventing first and then reducing the power of your eyes (if the eye power is less). Take physostigma 6/ thrice daily for 1 month and instill euphrasia eye drops twice a day. Thereafter, revert back for further guidance.

Hi lybrate-user. Working on laptop is not the problem. The problem is when improper posture and habits are maintained while working on the computer. I have a few suggestions for you regarding the usage of computers, mobile phones and books. Follow the rule of" 20" this means that every 20 minutes, take a gap of 20 seconds, blink your eyes actively 20 times and focus at an object which is minimum 20 feet away. This will help in relieving your eyes from the continuous strain that is caused due to staring. Staring at the computer continuously causes us to subconsciously blink less than normal. This causes the tear film on the surface of the eye to dry up. The result of this is pain, discomfort, etc. Another suggestions regarding the usage of computers is to maintain a proper posture. The computer must be positioned at the same height as your eye level. The neck should not be inadvertently flexed or extended. Roughly, an angle of 90 degrees should be maintained between your upper body and thighs. Likewise, a similar angle (90 degrees) should be maintained between your lower legs and thighs. Also the angle between your hands and arms should be roughly 90 degrees. This is the healthy ergonomic way of sitting while using a computer. Maintenance of proper posture would help in further relieving the symptoms of eye discomfort and pain. You could consider preservative free lubricant eye drops 4 to 5 times daily. These eye drops would ensure that your eyes stay well lubricated and fresh. All these suggestions may take a while to sink in and imbibe in your routine. Once followed, they are sure to work wonders for you. Also, adequate sleep of 7 hours a day is essential in order to maintain healthy eyes. You could also use a preservative free lubricant eye drop 4 to 5 times in a day. Hope my suggestions help you. Take care. Regards.

Make sure you are reading in adequate light, correct distance (about 40 cm for reading books or mobile, 60 to 70 cm for computers), etc. Simple red eyes usually clear by themselves. Home remedies such as washing with plain cold water, applying cold packs to closed eyes, taking a short period of rest, usually helps. If you are studying hard/sleeping inadequately, travelled excessively, have cold or cough - take care of these events as much as possible, it will help. General care includes eating a well balanced diet, sleeping adequately, etc. Give good rest to the eyes, take frequent short breaks during near work. If no response after these measures, make sure if you are using any eye glasses, that the glasses you are wearing are correct, by consulting an ophthalmlogist.

You need to consult a doctor properly. But till the time you do not do that: you might be having some allergy in the eyes or are working too much on the computers or straining your eyes. As for nerve pain, you can try multivitamin once daily for 15 days.
