I have a problem in my eyes. Its become red. I feel very pain. What should I do to resolve it?

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
I have a problem in my eyes. Its become red. I feel very pain. What should I do to resolve it?
Redness of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1) allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. (2) infectious conjunctivitis: this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3) foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles (more common with people working in the iron industry) the solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist at the clinic. (4) raised intraocular pressure: this is a condition known as glaucoma. It is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral (occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5) inflammation of the coats of the eyeball. This is known as" uveitis" it is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person. From the symptoms described by you, it seems more likely to be a case of allergy. Maintaining the precautions and hygiene that I mentioned should probably work well for you. Hope my suggestions helped you.

Hi. I have a few suggestions for you regarding the usage of computers. Follow the rule of" 20" this means that every 20 minutes, take a gap of 20 seconds, blink your eyes actively 20 times and focus at an object which is minimum 20 feet away. This will help in relieving your eyes from the continuous strain that is caused due to staring. Staring at the computer continuously causes us to subconsciously blink less than normal. This causes the tear film on the surface of the eye to dry up. The result of this is pain, discomfort, etc. Another suggestions regarding the usage of computers is to maintain a proper posture. The computer must be positioned at the same height as your eye level. The neck should not be inadvertently flexed or extended. Roughly, an angle of 90 degrees should be maintained between your upper body and thighs. Likewise, a similar angle (90 degrees) should be maintained between your lower legs and thighs. Also the angle between your hands and arms should be roughly 90 degrees. This is the healthy ergonomic way of sitting while using a computer. Maintenance of proper posture would help in further relieving the symptoms of eye discomfort and pain. All these suggestions may take a while to sink in and imbibe in your routine. Once followed, they are sure to work wonders for you.

How to take care of eyes? Actually my eye glass power is -3.5. My age is 32. It is better to wear glass or lens?

How to take care of eyes? Actually my eye glass power is -3.5. My age is 32. It is better to wear glass or lens?
These preventive habits protect eyes • Go for regular eye exams including complete dilated eye test to detect early-stage diabetic eye disorder and macular degeneration. • Be aware of eye health disorders within the family to proactively protect againsthereditary eye conditions. • Maintain healthy body weight to reduce the probability of developingdiabetic eye or glaucoma. • Protect your eyes in hazardous environments (under extreme sunlight, sports, etc.) by using sunglasses and safety gear such as shields and eye guards. • Stop smoking since itincreases the possibility of eye-damage including blindness. • Reduce eye-strain by frequently resting your eyes using the20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, for 20 seconds, look at a 20 feet distance away from you. • • Avoid eye-infections by always washing your hands before touching your eyes or contact lenses. It is always better to wear glass if you are comfortable with it as Lens demands a lot of care and expenses for maintanence.

Tips to Treat and Prevent Eye Pain

Cornea Cataract & Lasik
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Tips to Treat and Prevent Eye Pain

Are you suffering from eye pain? Well, rubbing your eyes is not a wise thing to do under such circumstances. Rubbing will only turn the white of your eye into a scarlet-colored surface. The eyes can get irritated due to the influence of foreign materials like dust particles, flies or remains of beauty products. The eyes also develop pain due to physical injury. Here are some tips to get rid of the eye pain or irritation:

  1. Use Ice pack: In case of an injury, apply ice pack on the eyes. Cold compression on the eyes for 15 minutes reduces any sort of pain or swelling.
  2. Cry to smile: Tears are known to have positive effects on the eyes. They prevent the drying up of cornea. It is advisable to bathe the eye with artificial tears.
  3. Compress your eyes: It is advisable to soak a washcloth in warm water and compress your eyes with that to get relief from pain in sty. Sty is an infection of the eyelid, which reddens the lids and causes pain. Warm compression helps in liquefaction of the oils in the eyes.
  4. Wash your eye: Irritation or pain is also caused by dust particles in the eyes. Therefore, it is best to wash your eyes with saline solution. Don't use normal tap water or distilled water for washing your eyes.
  5. Get rid of the invader: Try to remove or dislodge any fleck or speck 'the cause of pain' by using a cotton swab.
  6. Try the cold treatment: It has been found that dry eyes can be treated best by cold application. Apply a pack of ice on dry eyes for 5 to 6 minutes in every two hours. This helps in reducing the pain and forms tears to keep the eyes moist.
  7. Flip your eyelids: Try to remove the painful particle inside the eyes by pulling the eyelids. Pull the upper lid gently over the lower one so that the foreign particle comes out. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ophthalmologist.

If you have not had a Cardiology follow up since your angioplasty then I would suggest you have one and at the same time your blood pressure and weight issues can be addressed. It may be things have changed and you need adjustment of your medications and further review of your cardiovascular status.

Hello. There is no medication or food for improving eye sight or to get rid of glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser as your age is now 22 years so your number will not increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

Also start using an antibiotic eye drop 6 times in a day along with a lubricant eye drop and an anti-histamine eye drop. (3-4 times daily) maintain strict eye hygiene. Wash your eyes every hour with clean hands and water. Avoid rubbing your eyes with cloth, fingers, handkerchief, etc. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care.

Dear lybrate user, red eyes could be because of many reasons but commonly it is due to allergy or infection. You need to visit eye specialist to differentiate between the two as the treatment is different. Also get your eyes checked for any glass power.

I am 24 years old man and 4 to 3 days my left eye is so much flickering (means zap rahi h bar bar) please suggest me ...
Eyelid flicker could be a sign of tiredness, lack of sleep, overwork, too much travel, inadequate or inappropriate food, and so on. Usually, it is a minor & vague sign of general debility. Correct the above states, if any, in your present lifestyle. In addition, wash your closed eyes gently with cold (not chilled) water, eat well and get some rest. Inform us if there is no improvement with these measures.

I am diagnosed with blood vessels in cornea about 5 days ago I am daily wearing contact lens since 20 years ago please suggest me further treatment

Phaco Development Program, Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology, DNB Ophtalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Mysore
Confirm that the contact lens you are using is not tight for you. If they are tight fitting then ask your doctor to give you better fitting ones. Do not wear lenses for more than 6-8 hours a day. Use some preservative free lubricating eye drops (preferably those which come in unims) 3-4 times/day (they can be used over contact lenses too). Use contact lenses with high oxygen permeability and use monthly disposable lenses or daily disposable lenses. Get your eye checked frequently and if the vessels are growing then you may need to stop using lenses for few months.
