EYE CARE TIPS FOR COMPUTER USERS-
After every 20 to 30 minutes of work, look at a distant away object and blink several times.
People tend to reduce blink rate while working on computer. This can lead to dry eyes. Try to blink 12 to 15 times every minute.
Exercise your eyes at frequent intervals. Eye exercise is simple.
All you need to do is just blink several times, then close your eyes and role them in clockwise and anti clockwise direction

I had a stroke of tb meningitis after which i am suffering from diplopia how do i overcome this?

Phaco Development Program, Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology, DNB Ophtalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Mysore
When you had TB meningitis it is possible that some nerves which control movement of your eyes (Cranial nerves 3/4/6) was involved. So this could lead to some form of misalignment of eyes causing your double vision. Consulat a squint specialist or a neuro-ophthalmologist. With supportive measures it could resolve, if it does not come down even after 6 months then you may need to undergo some surgery on eye muscles to decrease this. For the time being you can use glasses with one eye having ground glass so that double vision can be avoided.

Redness of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1) allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. (2) infectious conjunctivitis: this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3) foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles (more common with people working in the iron industry) the solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist at the clinic. (4) raised intraocular pressure: this is a condition known as glaucoma. It is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral (occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5) inflammation of the coats of the eyeball. This is known as" uveitis" it is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person. (6) increased blood pressure. This has known to cause redness which is also known as sub-conjunctival hemorrhage. In this regard, a complete ophthalmic evaluation and a systemic evaluation is warranted. From the symptoms described by you, it seems more likely to be a case of infectious conjunctivitis. Maintaining the precautions and hygiene that I mentioned should probably work well for you. Also start using an antibiotic eye drop 6 times in a day along with a lubricant eye drop and an anti-histamine eye drop. (3-4 times daily) maintain strict eye hygiene. Wash your eyes every hour with clean hands and water. Avoid rubbing your eyes with cloth, fingers, handkerchief, etc. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care.

Hello lybrate-user. You could consider undergoing refractive surgery (lasik). Operations done to remove the refractive error (power) of the eyes are known as refractive surgery. There are certain basic criteria that most patients need to fulfill before they can safely undergo refractive surgery. To enumerate, they are: (1) stability of refraction: the power of the eyes should have become stable for a period of 1.5 years minimum without any change. (2) curvature of the cornea should be tested by a technique which is known as topography. (3) thickness of the cornea should be measured by a test known as pachymetry. The minimum thickness required is 550 microns. (4) dilated retina evaluation: this is one of the most important tests that should be performed by a trained retina specialist. This test helps in detection of any offensive lesion on the central or peripheral retina. In case of any retinal abnormality, these should be treated before undergoing the surgery for number reduction. (5) there should be no pre-existent corneal abnormality. (example: corneal scar, opacity, defect, etc.) another important suggestion is that whenever you go for the assessment (the above mentioned tests), you should discontinue the use of contact lenses at least 4 weeks prior to the assessment. The reason for this being that use of contact lens temporarily alters the contour of the cornea. It takes around 3-4 weeks for the restoration of the original corneal contour after removal of the contact lens. Another important point is that you, as a patient, should be compliant to put post operative medication in your eyes for at least 2 months. There is bound to be some discomfort, watering, foreign body sensation, pain after the surgery in most cases-you should be ready to tolerate that. A leave from work for 7-10 days after the surgery should be generally sufficient. Last but not the least, you should set realistic expectations from this surgery. Though extremely rare, there is a remote possibility that the surgery may need to be repeated. Also, the need for subsequent treatment for the eye may be required. Thus, you should be compliant enough to trust and follow your eye specialist.

Hi, I'm a software engineer. Recently, I have eye lid twitching on daily basis. Does it means something?

Hi, I'm a software engineer. Recently, I have eye lid twitching on daily basis. Does it means something?
Most of software professionals don't know how to work on computer for long time without giving trouble to eyes. While working on computer number of blinking drastically goes down from around 24 per minute to around 8 per minute leading to severe dryness causing burning, eyestrain, blurring of vision & headache. One should try to have normal blinking while working on computer, should look away from screen after every 10 minute , should take rest for 10 minute after every 2 hours& should wear antiglare glass. Software professionals should use lubricating eye drops 4-5 times daily (Systane ultra)&genteal gel once at bed time.

My eye power is increasing day by day after using glass regularly. Let me know what to do.

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS

My eye power is increasing day by day after using glass regularly.
Let me know what to do.
There is no medication or food for improving eyesight or to get rid of glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser your number will not increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. As you are not comfortable with contact lens then go for lasik. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

Dear lybrate-user, temporary itching of eyes and redness may be due to minor infection called conjunctivitis. The solution is please consult to nearest doctor to get permanent relief, as home remedy you can put 2-3 drops of rose water into the eyes, 3 times a day and rinse with fresh water 4-5 times in a day. If symptoms persist after 2 days then you have to consult the doctor.

I have some problems in colour blindness and distance between 6\6, what should I do?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

I have some problems in colour blindness and distance between 6\6, what should I do?
There is no known treatment. However, there are special contact lenses and glasses that may help people with color blindness tell the difference between similar colors. Color blindness is a lifelong condition. Most people are able to adjust to it without difficulty or disability. Homoeopathic medicine santonine 3x (dr reckeweg) chew 2 tab twice daily for 3 months. If the color blindness is partial ie. If one pigment is missing then the above homoeopathic medicine is very useful in that case as seen in my general practise. I will advise you, that what ever is your condition, you should start taking this medicine. Purely homeopathic, no side effects.

I am 16 year old and have eye power in left eye 0.75 and in right eye 0.50. Did I have to wear eye glasses every time or I can use glasses only at sometimes in class hour? If I took protein rich foods regularly did I have probability that without glasses in future?

I am 16 year old and have eye power in left eye 0.75 and in right eye 0.50. Did I have to wear eye glasses every time...
At age of 16 yrs , this is negligible power ,& you are not having headache or eye strain , you need not wear glass all the time but you should keep in mind that myopic power increases upto 21 yrs in male. Myopic power is inherited from either mother or father side & is basically hereditary in nature ,maximum increase in myopic power takes place between 13 to 21 yrs in male & between 13 yrs to 19 yrs in female because maximum body growth takes place between these periods. There is no direct medicine to check the increase in myopic power but with the help of balanced diet ,green vegetables & seasonal fruits  one can slow the speed in the increase of myopic  power, one can take the help of yoga pranayam, swimming, gym &these things definitely slow the speed of increase in myopic power.
