I am 18 years old guy! I have a knee pain used several ointments but it does not work! What should I suppose to do now? Whenever I try to play football my knee pain increases? Tell me what should I do?

MPT - Orthopedic Physiotherapy, Fellowship in Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (FOR)
Physiotherapist, Kolkata
Hello Mr. Lybrate-user, since how long you are having this knee pain? where exactly does it hurt you while you play football. It's very crucial to know the exact location of the pain at the knee. There could be various reasons behind your problem. Avoiding proper warm-up and cool down can be the precipitatory cause. Inadequate water intake could be another reason. Weak knee and hip & tfl muscles could be another reason. There could be some old biomechanical misalignment or subluxation in the knee like anterior or posterior rotaion of the tibia with wedging which could be adding undue torque on the meniscus or any other soft tissue structure. These are quite common in players and youngsters who are physically active. To rule out the exact cause you need to get a xray of your knee done. In short, visit a skilled orthopedic manual therapist who can diligently handle this and give proper correction manipulative therapy. If it's not a subluxation issue then it won't be a big issue to deal with. To deal with it as of now, you can apply hot pack before and after playing. Apply nupatach 200 at the painful area of knee 6 hours before playing and knee it for 24 hours. This is a temporary solution, get your knee fixed. Good luck hope it helps. Thanks.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

Hello doctors. I have severe pain in my legs may b since 1 month. Is this happening because of weakness? I am unable to understand what remedy should b used or to which specialist should I consult. Will you doctors help me.

BPTh/BPT, MPTh/MPT

For Leg Pain, please follow the below advise Contrast bath---It is a form of treatment where a limb or the entire body is immersed in warm water followed by the immediate immersion of the limb or body in ice water. This procedure is repeated several times, alternating hot and cold. Note that the treatment should always end in the ice water, as heat will induce the body's inflammatory response, while cold helps to decrease inflammation. : Keep your leg raised while sitting or lying Quadriceps strengthening exercises- Quad Clenches: Lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, Hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day.

I am 22, male. I have pain in my right knee, I mean the joints. I had this pain from past 5 years. But from last 1 year it has been very painful. Before this 1 year, for nearly 6 months I heard sounds while walking (in between the joints). I could not even sleep due this pain. Actually what is the reason behind it. Why it is caused. What should I do to get rid of this?

It must be investigated. Get a MRI of the knee. You would probably need arthroscopic knee surgery. Do ask for detailed treatment plan. Don?t ignore it lest it become beginning of a bigger problem

Dear, stomach pain occurs during periods is due to contraction of muscles of uterus. This will not cause any problem after marriage and during pregnancy. For take relief follow these methods: * take i/3 rd piece of ginger boil it in one glass of water, when half glass water remain then take it with one teaspoon of ajwayin. * use warm water bottle put it on your stomach area with wrap in the towel. * take rest properly do not do hard work. Homeopathy is one of the most important and effective therapy for back pain. Homeopathy produces excellent results in backache treatment without producing any side effect and is extensively used in all over the world. Homeopathy is a nature system of healing and that is why it can heal whole symptoms of illnesses and it also cure the illness from its root. Tips for backache: heavy objects should be pushed rather than pulled. The weight of the objects should be taken in your bent legs and arms and not in your back. During an acute attack sleep with a pillow under the knees. Choose shoes that offer good support in the arch and have low, but not flat, heels. Prop up one foot on a box or low stool when you're standing for a long time. Use a chair that provides support for your back, or tuck a little pillow behind your lower back. Tips to improve balance/alignment/motion: lift your leg so your thigh is parallel to the ground while touching a wall. Hold it for five breaths. For alignment, move side to side while sitting on a balance ball. For motion, try moving forward and backward on the ball. Consult for homoeopathic treatment.

Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.
