Hi, I have stuttering due to anxiety, mine is altogether a different kind of stuttering from that I have seen in other stutterers. I don't always stutter, it's only when I think about it the problem comes in, whenever I'm not conscious about it, I don't have any problem, whenever I'm heavily engaged in some work or if I'm really concentrated in something I don't stutter. When ever Im to deliver a public speech this fear from within kicks in and I stutter. I tried different ways to contain it, but some methods have bee n counter productive, Is there any solution for this problem? I have heard that stuttering can't be cured entirely, but I have not been a stutterer throughout my life, I had stuttering during my lower school, high school I did not have that much of a problem. In my college days, problem started again, and now Im working in a company, I'm in my worst ever state now. Please help me in getting rid of this. Thanks,

Stammering is typically recognised by a tense struggle to get words out. This makes it different from the normal non-fluency we all experience which includes hesitations and repetitions. Commonly it involves repeating or prolonging sounds or words, or getting stuck without any sound (silent blocking). Sometimes people put in extra sounds or words. Often people lose eye contact.
Some people who stammer talk their way round difficult words so that you may not realise they stammer at all. This avoidance of words, and avoidance of speaking in some or many situations, is an important aspect of stammering.
Stammering varies tremendously from person to person and is highly variable for the person who stammers who may be fluent one minute and struggling to speak the next.
Get an mri brain and eeg with a psychiatrist evaluation.

Mood swings will be better word to describe it. Thinking about future and marriage is not bad but only thinking and not doing any fruitful thing for that is the concern. Try to be social go for walks enjoy some activities which you like doing. You are not sick in any ways trust your own self don't doubt. Take care. For further assistance you can book appointment. Ways To Get Hoarseness Treated!

Ways To Get Hoarseness Treated!

Hoarseness in the simplest sense means, 'hoarse voice'. It may be defined as an abnormal voice change. It is experienced in the form of strained, rough, thick, harsh and grating voice. Variations can be felt even in the loudness and pitch of the voice.

Hoarseness is a temporary infection associated with the larynx, which is also known as the voice box in animals as well as humans. Vocal cords are present inside the voice box. Depending on the vibration of the vocal cord, different sounds are produced.

What are the general causes of hoarseness?

Hoarseness may be caused by common cold, viral infection, cough, irritation due to screaming, smoking, allergy, thyroid problem, acute laryngitis and benign tumor. In adults, the stomach asset comes up to the throat causing hoarseness. Heartburn can also be one of the causes.

When hoarseness arises due to common cold and cough, it will last for 2 to 3 days and will subside using cough suppressant and home remedies like salt water gargling, drinking hot milk with turmeric and pepper powder. As cough or cold suppress, hoarseness will also reduce.

When to see an Otolaryngologist (ENT specialist)?

Serious infections in ear nose and throat are treated by an otolaryngologist. It is very essential to consult this specialist if hoarseness lasts for more than 2 to 3 weeks; pain in ENT is not due to cold or flu, coughing up blood, lump in the neck.

Evaluation: The medical specialist starts his diagnosis by physically examining the vocal cord. Flexible light weight fiber optic tube scope is also used to visually examine the larynx area. Videotaping, acoustic analysis is also done to study voice irregularities, airflow to guide treatment.

How can hoarseness be treated?

The mode of treatments depends on underlying the cause of the problem. The patient may be advised:

  1. In most cases, hoarseness can be treated just by resting your throat or modifying the use of your voice.
  2. To avoid smoking or passive smoking
  3. Referred to a speech therapist to improve sound of voice.
  4. In case of benign tumor the nodule or polyp is removed by surgery.

How can you prevent hoarseness?

We've all heard the phrase, 'prevention is better than cure'. Alas, it is. Preventing hoarse voice and throat is a much better option than treating it. Here are some tips on how to prevent hoarseness:

  • Avoid smoking
  • Avoid overconsumption of caffeine and alcohol.
  • Consume plenty of water
  • Avoid eating spicy food.
  • Avoid speaking loudly for long intervals of time.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Thats your natural voice, all male voice breaks after puberty, you have to meet some singer and find if your voice and singing capacity shows the aptitude for becoming one, if not leave and do something else.

Dear Antony. Delay in speech is a developmental disorder. Speech delay is considered normal upto an age of 3 years. I suggest you to consult a child specialist and then a speech language therapist for further investigation and treatment. Take care.

Well Mr. lybrate-user the symptoms you are describing maybe due to social Anxiety/social phobia you may be experiencing. These symptoms are usually present in social situations, leading a desire for escape or avoid those situations. Usually shyness, behavioral inhibition are predisposing factors. Relaxing techniques, skills training, can reduce your symptoms. If your problems are persisting kindly consult a psychiatrist.
