Right Posture For Walking

Ask Free Question
Walking is a simple activity and it should remain simple. We have forgotten to walk properly since many of us have a desk job. Many of us just shuttle between the bed, car and the desk only. For us walking a mile or so requires too much effort and time. However, it is important that we include walking in our everyday life.

But as we start adding the simplest way of exercise in our daily lives, it is important that we do the same correctly. The proper posture - the proper time and the right attitude is essential.

Proper walking posture is efficient and easy on the body. Poor walking postures can cause early fatigue, discomfort and even injury. Walking properly involves the whole body - from head to toe.

HEAD: Walk tall, do not lean forward/backward and stand straight.

You don't have to look down. Always look forward, at least 20 feet ahead. The chin should be parallel to the ground and the ears should be directly on your shoulders. Your back should be straight and should not be slouching and walking. Focus on head and whole body will fall in line.

SHOULDERS: 'Relax ', shrug once and let the shoulders fall back and lift your chest.

If you are stressed, then you might have tight and raised shoulders. It is best to let go of oneself and relax. Let your shoulders fall back and lift your chest. Walk proud and confident.

ARMS: 'Swing', it generates extra momentum and increases calorie burning.

Hands should be relaxed. The opposite arm and leg coordination should be there and your arms should be swinging together. Your leg and arm movement ensures that your body is in close coordination with walking. This also helps in building a momentum and opting for an option called power walking - an exceptional way to lose weight.

CORE: 'Brace your core'
Core is the muscle group that surrounds the torso or the mid skeleton. It provides stability and should be activated while walking by tightening your abdominal muscles.

LEGS: 'Align and level'

Hips should be fairly level, legs should comfortably swing on you stride. Keep your knees tightly bent and do not roll in or out while walking. Your knees must remain properly aligned with the hips and feet.

Feet: 'Flexible'

The heels should strike first with the toes pulled up at 45 degrees. Then roll through the step from head to toe and finally push off with your big toe to move into the next step. Wear flexible shoes as stiff shoes will slap down rather than roll through. Finally, make your walk comfortable and enjoyable.

Focus on one or two points per walk and gradually in few weeks you can master all of the points without having to think about it.

If you are wooried about sexually transmitted infections I should advise you that condoms do not provide 100% protection. You can get yourself examined by a urologist who can order an infection screening. If you are worried about unwanted pregnancy for her please use a emergency contraceptive pill if within 72 hours of sex.

Please check for the following: Blood for CBC, ESR, R A Factor (quantitative), Serum Iron, TIBC, Serum Transferrin level, Thalassemia study The food you mentioned are not rich in iron (like milk is poor in iron content). You may take dates, Palak (Spinach), Cabbage etc. Mutton liver is a rich source, (for non-vegetarians). It could be a Thalassemia minor where Haemoglobin remains low despite adequate diet. It is hereditary state. I suggested for screening for collagen disorder like rheumatoid arthritis etc. If you have stiffness in the joints persiting for more than an hour on waking up in the morning, you may have that in you. Please report to me through this platform.

It is generally safe to travel at all times during your pregnancy. Whether you are going by car, bus, or train, it is generally safe to travel while you are pregnant; however, there are some things to consider that could make your trip safer and more comfortable. It is essential to buckle-up every time you ride in a car. Make sure that you use both the lap and shoulder belts for the best protection of you and your baby. Buses tend to have narrow aisles and small restrooms. This mode of transportation can be more challenging. The safest thing is to remain seated while the bus is moving. If you must use the restroom, make sure to hold on to the rail or seats to keep your balance. Avoiding travel from 32 weeks (8th month) through birth is recommended for women who have complicated pregnancies with risk factors for premature labor, such as mothers carrying multiples. You can travel but be careful according instruction for safe pregnancy.

Hi I Was on Novelon pill pack from june. Missed second last pill of june doubled up with the last took a break of 6 days. On which had menses. Started new pack from july 8th. Had intercourse on 9th condom was their but its been used thrice but it did not break. This was first intercourse and the second was one 14th july it was the last one very well protected. Missed 21st july pill doubled up on 22nd july had a very light bleeding on 22nd july (do not know implantation or breakthrough bleeding due to missing pills) was too stressed out all the time so felt slightly nauseated. Pill pack ended on 28th july bleeding from 1-6 aug. No pills or intercourse after withdrawal bleed. Period was due on 1st sept and as it did not came till 8th. Did a usg on 8th shows marginally bulky anteverted uterus with normal myometrial echo texture, cervix normal, no collection seen in pod, no sol seen, endometrial cavity empty, ureter not dilated, kidney normal. Bulky ovaries with mildly increase stromal echogenicity, and tiny follicles arranged peripherally. Beta hcg on the same day (10 weeks from first and 9 weeks from Last intercourse) was 0.11 Doctor prescribed tab deviry for 5 days 2 doses each day. But I got my period just after 1 dose. It was heavy with clots and continued from 11-16th sept. Before periods breast was sore and stomach had become bulky but after periods it has all gone. I was doing a lot of exercise lately like crunches leg rise etc. Abd suddenly as I woke up on 21st sept (12 weeks from first and 11 weeks from last intercourse) I felt my pubic bone which I did not felt earlier and it was hard on the middle and on the right side. I got scared and did a usg. Report shows everything normal but ovaries bulky with pcod. Uterus also normal. Can I still be pregnant if I got my periods twice in the consecutive months with multiple negative hpt at 4,5,6,7,8,11,12 weeks with first morning urine and my beta hcg 0.11 and usg shows only pcod? Why can I feel my pelvic bone. I was 72 kgs earlier now I am weighing 68 kgs. Lost 4 kgs can these be the reason I cn fl my pelvic bone? Or is it due to pregnancy? Or it can be due to exercise? Please help as I dnt want to get pregnant right at the moment. And its almost 3 months and still nothing has been shown but why m I fln a hardness in that area. Firstly I thought uterus but the person doing usg told that my uterus is normal. Is this due oestitis pubis? M doing lot of exercises these days can it be just because of that. The area above my pubic bone is not that hard. But I feel pain while touching the front pubic bone. Is their any minute risk of pregnancy even if my last intercourse was 3 months before with multiple negative hpt, negative blood test and usg only showing pcod. M feeling gassy throughout past three months. Is it due to stress?

Hi,Do not get confused with too many things. You are not pregnant.Secondly, the reason you are feeling your pubic bone is may be you have noticed this only now since you are exercising. It will be felt in all females who are thin.It is painful may be because of your exercise.Relax mentally.Do yoga. You will be alright.

The Right and Wrong Way to Stretch Tight Muscles

Being flexible is not always about doing splits or doing some random bending. It is about achieving a level of mobility that will not hold you back from doing whatever you are able to do. Most people think that stretching or flexing your muscles and body as the first method to defend you from pain. But if stretching and flexing can be done correctly, it can lengthen one's muscles and give one relief from pains and aches. Stretching is also done to increase the functional range of one's joints and muscles. There are various ways by which one can stretch their muscles. However, the question which looms over here is which is the correct procedure and which is the wrong one.

The Wrong Vs the Right Way
Before discussing about the correct way, let us talk about the various wrong ways in which stretching can be done. The first rule is that if stretching is causing you pain or if it is hurting you, then you are probably taking it too far. A muscle needs to relax as much as possible, if it needs to stretch. If one is stretching so hard that he or she cannot relax then the muscle will not lengthen. Stretching should never be painful.
One should also avoid stretching for an insufficient length of time. Only a few seconds of stretching will not hold the therapeutic effects of stretching.

The following methods are few of the correct ways to stretch:
1. Always start with the warm muscles. Warm your muscles by doing some aerobic movement or by applying heat with the help of a warm bath.
2. After warming your muscles, monitor your level of discomfort. Let it go once you feel pain.
3. Hold any stretch for at least 30 seconds.

Stretching the Correct Muscle
There are muscles, which need to be stretched and there are muscles, which should not be. So getting to know the correct muscles to be stretched is as important as knowing the correct procedure to stretch your muscles. Every muscle, which does not hurt should not be stretched. There are different types of muscles that cause pain like stiff, tight, short muscles and long muscles. Muscles that are tight should only be subjected to stretching. Stretching muscles that are too long is not a good idea.

Using Physiotherapists
Most people who cannot determine which muscle should be stretched and which should not be should consult a physiotherapist. Physiotherapists can quickly and easily diagnose muscular issues. They will also show ways to stretch which are most effective for particular needs.

Stretching should be made a part of one's life. It is a way by which one can become their healthiest self and avoid muscular imbalances.
