Green tea is one of the powerful antioxidants that is loaded with nutrients. Once you are done with green tea, don't throw your tea bags. Store them in refrigerator and put them on your eyes and relax.
Instantly you will be refreshed and feel relaxed.

Tips to Deal With Sties

Tips to Deal With Sties

A sty is a tiny red bump in the eyes which looks like a pimple on the outer edge of the eye. This condition usually causes a lot of discomfort and a significant amount of pain. This pimple generally forms when the oil glands in the eyes get clogged with dirt and grime as well as excess oil, which created blockage due to the accumulation of bacteria. Too much tear production as well as swelling and pain are the most common symptoms of this condition, which must be shown to an ophthalmologist for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Read on to find out the various ways in which you can treat this condition:

  • Well Cleaned Hands: Always ensure that your hands are properly cleaned and sanitised, as the hands can spread the maximum amount of germs and bacteria to your eyes. The hands are usually the most overworked part of the body which we use for doing a variety of tasks that involve touching, gripping, pulling, pushing and running them along a variety of surfaces. This causes a build-up of germs and bacteria on the hands which can easily get transferred to the face or the eyes, as one touches these areas constantly. So, it is important to keep your hands clean at all time to ensure that the sty does not get worse.
  • Avoid Makeup: When you are suffering from a sty, it is imperative to keep your eyes clean and clear. For this, you must avoid using makeup until the sty gets fully cured as the makeup may irritate the eye and the particles may further block the pimple. Also, you may want to avoid wearing contact lenses unless the sty gets better, and stick to glasses instead so that there is nothing in the eye that will obstruct its treatment.
  • Warm Washcloth: This treatment will soothe the eye and help in sanitising the area with the warmth of the washcloth. Also, this kind of treatment for a few minutes every day will ensure that the swelling also reduces. Further, one must ensure that the washcloth is clean and lint free so that no dirt escapes into the eyes.
  • Avoid Squeezing: One must avoid squeezing the sty as this action can make it even worse. Further, if the pimple bursts, the liquid or pus within can easily infect the eye and the area around it. The sty should be allowed to drain out on its own, or you can visit an eye doctor who will help in draining it out.

Getting professional help to treat the sty with medication and ointments as well as medical procedures is always more helpful.

My daughter, age 17 yrs, had blunt trauma in her right eye during jun'14. She had one optic nerve damaged and has lost Patial vision ( presently 6/18 in r/e. Laser ws also done in the ratina. Initially her intraculur pressure was increased due to heavy steroids. But now every thing has been stabilized. All allopathic medicine have been stopped. Doctor says that now vision would not be improved. We are also not bothered about vision much and satisfied with 6/18 in r/e and 6/6 in l/e. However she is still have pains in her eye, which is not understandable to doctors. Kindly guide

It could be nothing serious. As long as she is on regular follow-ups and her Intaocular pressure is being monitored you should not worry. If there is a mild pain you can try some good lubricating eye drops (like Lubrex, Tear Drops, Add Tears) 3-4 times per day. If there is any associated redness then it is better that you consult your doctor.

I am a 28 years old female. I get severe headache while working on computer (ranges normally 10 hrs a days. I have myopia of -2d on both eyes. Whts the reason of the heache as I get it right from the morning.

FICO, Specialist in Cataract,Cornea and refractive surgeries , MD - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Srinagar
It can be computer vision syndrome, in which because of continuous looking at screen, one stops blinking of eye and dryness occurs. 1. Use artificial tears 2. After working for half hr just stop for few minutes and relax 3. Blink intermittently during work.

Your power is just -1.25 d which is negligible & you should not worry, there is lots of advantage from this type of power in later life, you may go for contact lens but will never advise you for LASIK Myopic power is inherited from either mother or father side & is basically hereditary in nature ,maximum increase in myopic power takes place between 13 to 21 years in male & between 13 years to 19 years in female because maximum body growth takes place between these periods. There is no direct medicine to check the increase in myopic power but with the help of balanced diet ,green vegetables & seasonal fruits  one can slow the speed in the increase of myopic  power, one can take the help of yoga pranayam, swimming, gym &these things definitely slow the speed of increase in myopic power.
