Doctor can you help me with my black female lab who is 6 month old. I feel that she has some problem with her coat as I find her hairs more often on clothes and bed. Though her coat looks to be fine, shiny and hairy yet this hair loss concerns me. Is it fine or any sort of symptom? And also how to help with her unclean ears?

MVSc, BVSc
Veterinarian,
Dogs do shed seasonally. The shedding is more in growing puppies. Its suggested that you comb your pet's fur at least once daily - preferably in the morning- to remove all dead/loose fur. This way you can reduce chances of finding fur on bed n cloths. Check if she's overdue for deworming, which can also contribute to stress and excess shedding. Check on diet, if it has balanced nutrients, especially good quality proteins. You can safely incorporate oral omega 3/6/9 supplement so as to control loss of fur. Hope this is helpful:)

We have always been having a German Sheppard or a Labrador along with a Pomeranian at our bungalow and the watchmen take care of them. Now the Labrador has aged and his days are counted. We need to buy a new dog (bigger one). We want to change the breed. Which breed do you suggest to tolerate Hyderabad climate and outdoor living (in the garage/dog shed)?

As your interest you choose any breed, there no issue to select which breed. Only one issue in your mind that is it (upcoming dog) comfortable with your Pomeriandog? Yes because you select any breed dog which age either 1 -2 month so that puppy adjust with pom and no issue and no problems.

No bath till he is of 3 months old. Till then you can use puppy wipes and dry shampoos available at the pet stores. For food, please give one cup of 80℅ diluted milk mixed with one raw egg and 1 small tsp coconut oil. Twice a day. Puppy chew stix for dental health. One cup of royal canine mini junior once a day.

My Labrador dog is been affected by bugs. And now it's became a wound. What medicine should i give him? Please suggest some medicine that is available in Kerala

Ectoparasites are problem due to miss management. Clip her hair slightly to get contact with the medicines. First give her bath with antibacterial pet shampoo available at your place . Give a dip in 0.05 % amitraj solution every 5-7 days. Replace her bedding with a clean one, trim the nails to prevent further damage of the wound while scratching.

The treatment for hypothyroidism advised to your pet is alright. The protocol for treating such patients vary according to the condition of the pet, requirement of dose depending on the test reports and its clinical manifestation. So it is not possible to give any advice without examining the patient and its blood reports. Better have an opinion from nearby vet after examination only. Thank you.

You can have tablets for it from the receptive days on wards . But it has all the side effects i would suggest you to go for one breeding and surgically remove the uterus . With a vet surgeon

The medicine is not harmful if used wisely. You have to check why the appetite is lost rather then providing steroids to get an appetite.
