Homeopathic treatment for piles offers several more advantages. It is very economical when compared to any other alternative or complementary treatment for piles. At the same time, the homeopathic medicines do not have any side effects. This is one of the biggest advantages of Homeopathy over any other system of medicine. While you are under treatment of any other system of medicine, you run the risk of getting one or the other side effect while Homeopathic treatment for piles is absolutely safe You can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance and permanent cure without any side effects

Fungal Infection

MBBS, DDV
Dermatologist, Mumbai
Fungal Infection

Fungal infections can affect any part of the body. Fungi are normally present in and on the body alongside various bacteria. When a fungus begins to overgrow, you can get an infection.

Onychomycosis, also called tinea unguium, is a fungal infection that affects either the fingernails or toenails. Fungal infections normally develop over time, so any immediate difference in the way your nail looks or feels may be too subtle to notice at first.

Why Does It Develop?

A fungal nail infection occurs from the overgrowth of fungi in, under, or on the nail. Fungi thrive in warm, moist environments, so this type of environment can cause them to naturally overpopulate. The same fungi that cause jock itch, athlete’s foot, and ringworm can cause nail infections.

Fungi that are already present in or on your body can cause nail infections. If you have come in contact with someone else who has a fungal infection, it may have spread to you. Fungal infections affect toenails more commonly than fingernails because toes are usually confined to shoes, where they’re in a warm, moist environment.

If you get a manicure or pedicure at a nail salon, be sure to ask how the staff disinfects their tools and how often they do it. Tools, such as emery boards and nail clippers, can spread fungal infections from person-to-person if they’re not sanitized.

Please check for the following: Blood for CBC, ESR, R A Factor (quantitative), Serum Iron, TIBC, Serum Transferrin level, Thalassemia study The food you mentioned are not rich in iron (like milk is poor in iron content). You may take dates, Palak (Spinach), Cabbage etc. Mutton liver is a rich source, (for non-vegetarians). It could be a Thalassemia minor where Haemoglobin remains low despite adequate diet. It is hereditary state. I suggested for screening for collagen disorder like rheumatoid arthritis etc. If you have stiffness in the joints persiting for more than an hour on waking up in the morning, you may have that in you. Please report to me through this platform.

Hyperandrogenism - Common Signs in Women!

MBBS, MD - Paediatrics, FRACP - Pediatrc Endocrinology, SCE, Endocrinology

Hyperandrogenism - Common Signs in Women!

Androgens, or the male sex hormones are steroid hormones that mainly include Testosterone, Androstenedione, DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone), DHEA-S (Dehydroepiandrosterone- Sulfate). These hormones are produced in both males and females, and androgen is responsible for the secondary sexual characteristics in men. Androgen is also responsible for the synthesis of estrogen (a precursor for estrogen synthesis) in females. The hormone is also known to regulate the activities of a host of body organs including the reproductive tract (both in males and females).

In females, androgens (testosterone, in particular) are, however, produced in lesser quantities by the ovaries. The problem arises when the there is an elevated production of androgens in females, a condition termed as Hyperandrogenism. Mentioned below are some of the symptoms and complications indicative of Hyperandrogenism in women.

  1. Hair loss and alopecia: This is common in women with Hyperandrogenism. When there is an increased production of androgen, especially testosterone, some of the testosterone gets converted into Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). A healthy hair growth cycle consists of three phases- Anagen (growth phase), Catagen (transitional hair growth phase), and Telogen (resting phase). The DHT produced get attached to the hair follicles, resulting in the hair follicles to enter into the Telogen phase prematurely with increased hair loss and alopecia.
  2. PCOS: The elevated levels of androgen also result in the formation of cysts in one or both the ovaries. The ovarian cysts often interfere with the ovulation process as the condition either stall the maturation of the eggs or the release of the matured eggs from the ovary fail to take place.
  3. Menstrual problems (irregular periods, heavy or scanty flow) and infertility are common in females with PCOS.
  4. Menstrual problems and abnormalities: Research suggests that elevated plasma androgen levels can significantly affect the menstrual cycle in females. Incidences of Amenorrhea (a condition whereby a woman has missed three or more successive menstrual cycles) and Oligomenorrhea (a condition where the menstrual cycle is often lighter and less frequent) are relatively higher in women with Hyperandrogenism.
  5. Hirsutism: Hirsutism is characterized by the presence of the excess body and facial hair in females (male pattern hair growth). Androgen plays a pivotal role in the regulation of the pilosebaceous unit along with the modulation of the hair growth. The pilosebaceous unit (the unit mainly includes the sebaceous glands and the hair follicles) is involved in the production of the sebum.

In females with Hyperandrogenism, the elevated androgen level contributes significantly towards increased production of terminal body hair as seen in males (increased facial hair, hair on the chest, arms, legs) resulting in Hirsutism.

Probable complications and problems Hyperandrogenism can cause

  1. Hyperandrogenism in females also triggers an elevated sebum production, resulting in acne and related skin problems.
  2. As already mentioned, androgen is responsible for secondary male sexual characteristics. Thus, females with Hyperandrogenism often exhibit Virilization or increased male characteristics.
  3. With Increased incidences of menstrual abnormalities and PCOS, Hyperandrogenism can eventually make it difficult for a woman to conceive.
  4. Females with Hyperandrogenism often suffer from obesity.

Damaged Fallopian Tubes - 3 Types

MBBS, DGO
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Damaged Fallopian Tubes - 3 Types

The fallopian tubes are not mere passages for the egg to travel from the ovaries to the uterus. It is here that conception occurs and hence healthy fallopian tubes are essential for the fertilization of an egg.

Damaged fallopian tubes are the most common cause of infertility. This damage can fall under three categories.
1.  Blocked fallopian tubes
2.  One blocked and one open fallopian tube
3.  Tubal scarring

The third is usually an effect of pelvic infections or natural healing after a pelvic surgery. Sadly, in most cases, this condition is discovered only after infertility has been diagnosed. Other causes of fallopian tubal scarring include

*  STDs such as chlamydia trachomatis and neisseria gonorrhea
*  Adhesions caused by ruptured ovarian cysts
*  Appendicitis
*  Peritonitis and
*  A history of ectopic pregnancies

Fallopian tubal scarring has no recognizable symptoms. Chronic pelvic pain is the only known symptom of this damage and that too can be seen only in severe cases of tubal scarring. On diagnosing infertility, your doctor will perform one of these tests to determine the condition of your fallopian tubes.

1.  Hysterosalpingogram
This is a type of X-ray. Your doctor will open the vagina with a speculum and inject a liquid into the uterus with the help of a catheter. If the liquid does not pass through the fallopian tubes, it is said to be blocked. This however does not say much about tubal scarring.

2.  Laparoscopy
A small incision is made below the belly button and a slim, flexible tube with a camera is passed through the incision. This gives your doctor a clear view of the condition of your fallopian tubes. A laparoscopy can also be used to rule out other causes of infertility such as endometriosis or blocked fallopian tubes.

Treatment for infertility caused by tubal scarring is of two types:
1.  Surgery
This is suggested in cases where tubal scarring is minimal. Depending on the intensity and placement of scar tissue, your doctor may decide to perform one of many types of surgeries. He may choose to remove the scarred section of the fallopian tube, create a new opening (in case of blockages) or rebuild the damaged edges of the fallopian tubes.

2.  In vitro Fertilization(IVF)
Women with badly scarred fallopian tubes usually have poor chances of conceiving naturally. Hence, IVF is the preferred treatment route. However, your doctor may still advise you to undergo surgery and remove the damaged tubes prior to IVF to prevent the tubes from filling with fluid. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.
